The Epic Tale of Chaos vs Order

Chapter 1562: The Flow: Redirection

A hush fell over the frozen skies as Cain faced the colossal energy cannon. From a distance, he was but a speck of dust compared to that raging beam of elemental destruction. Yet his heart was paradoxically calm, marked by a sense of utter tranquility that belied the lethal threat fast approaching.

With eyes closed, Cain laced his hands together in a slow, deliberate gesture and drew a deep breath. At that moment, his entire being seemed to harmonize with the fundamental forces that shaped the Gu World. The swirling winds, the biting cold, and the intangible currents of power all became part of a grand cosmic tapestry he could feel resonating inside his body.

As soon as the cannon was a heartbeat away from engulfing him, Cain opened his eyes. Each iris glowed with such powerful golden radiance that they resembled supernovas bursting with primordial light. The intensity of his gaze alone seemed enough to make the very air shudder.

From within the fortress, Core Elder Karun and his assembled warriors watched as the cataclysmic energy roared toward Cain. That energy cannon was the fortress’s ultimate card and was designed to repel an entire army, but now it was used on a single person, yet no one dared to refute Karun’s decision. The entire fortress, housing millions of souls, held its collective breath, placing its final hope in the energy cannon.

Yet what happened next defied all understanding. Instead of a fiery detonation that might have vaporized Cain, the immense energy cannon gradually faded into his body. It was as if a black hole resided within his left hand, drawing in unstoppable power through his index and middle fingers. No one in the fortress could believe it. Even the wind seemed to pause, as though reality itself struggled to process the scene unfolding before it. Had their eyes deceived them, or had Cain truly absorbed the fortress’s doomsday weapon like a sponge soaking up water?

A deathly silence ensued among the tens of millions of inhabitants within those walls. They were petrified, unable to reconcile the event they had just witnessed. Something truly unthinkable had taken place, and they had no words to describe it—no frame of reference to even begin understanding.

A radiant glow then began to travel through Cain’s left arm, a visible current of energy moving like a blazing river beneath his skin. First, it surged upward to his shoulder before diverting to his abdomen, where it circled as if caught in a vortex. From there, it meandered back through his chest, eventually reaching his right shoulder. Cain lifted his right hand toward the fortress, a serene smile forming on his lips as he spoke in a gentle, unhurried tone.

“The Flow: Redirection.”

Suddenly, a thunderous explosion of sound split the skies.

“BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMM!”

A beam of pure, unbridled power erupted from Cain’s index and middle fingers, lancing down from the highest reaches of the heavens. It descended upon the Frozen Peak like the vengeful sword of a god—a divine verdict of utter destruction. The shockwave preceding it cracked boulders and uprooted towers of ice, igniting a chain reaction of devastation that would soon envelop everything in its path.

Karun snapped out of his temporary stupor, eyes widening as the redirected energy threatened to obliterate the fortress. He knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that their defensive force field would never withstand this cataclysmic blow.

With grim determination, Karun steeled himself, assuming direct control of the force field, compressing it around our strongest fighters. In a heartbeat, what had once been a vast protective dome began to shrink, retreating until it covered only the fortress’s central region—where Karun’s elite forces stood ready.

A collective wave of horror swept through the remaining millions of cultivators scattered across the fortress grounds. Panic seized them as they realized they were being left to die. The blazing energy beam had not even reached them yet, and already they could feel their skin sizzling as if the inferno were devouring their flesh from the inside out. Without the force field’s protection, their fates were sealed.

Many cursed Karun’s name in their final moments, though the Core Elder seemed unmoved by their plight. To him, strategy dictated that it was better to sacrifice the bulk of his army than to lose the fortress’s strongest defenders. If there had been any other option, he might have taken it, but the unstoppable truth of Cain’s power offered none.

“BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMM!”

The beam collided with the Frozen Peak in a conflagration of unimaginable proportions. The towering ice-capped mountain, which had once appeared tall enough to pierce the sky, disintegrated in a burst of vaporized rock and frost. A colossal cloud of debris shot upward, forming a mushroom-like plume that darkened the heavens.

At his vantage point high above, Cain felt a searing heat reverberate through his body. Redirection was an extraordinary technique, but it came at a cost. Though it wasn’t as agonizing as the time he had once tried to redirect the ultimate spell of a Third Realm sorceress, he still sensed a deep, scorching ache surging through his meridians.

Despite the pain, a triumphant smile spread across his face. He watched as the fortress crumbled and the frozen mountain collapsed in on itself, leaving an expanse of ruin in its wake. Where vibrant armies once stood, a field of scattered embers and molten rock remained, glowing with eerie luminosity. Thousands of Gu Insects scattered around the flames, their owners reduced to ashes in the monumental blast.

Amid the devastation, a small spherical force field glimmered at the epicenter, housing Karun and his most formidable warriors. While it was still intact, hairline fractures now ran across its surface, revealing the strain of deflecting such a potent strike.

Cain assessed the scene, a flicker of cold admiration in his eyes. “Smart,” he murmured. “His quick thinking allowed over one hundred thousand of his elite Soul Realm fighters to survive. They remain unscathed behind what’s left of that barrier.”

Of course, Cain’s respect did nothing to alter his ultimate intention. He lifted his left forearm, and the Star Cage Runic Formation etched along his skin began to glow. An invisible force vacuumed up the myriad Gu Insects that hovered without masters, pulling them toward him as though a colossal magnet had been activated.

Karun clenched his teeth, a mingling of rage and envy twisting across his features as he watched Cain absorb countless Gu Insects—valuable resources he himself might have harvested if only he had foreseen this turn of events.

Finally, a sharp crack echoed like thunder.

“Crack!”

The force field shattered, shards of shimmering protective energy dissolving into nothingness. While it had served its purpose by saving Karun and his elite from the cataclysmic strike, they were now fully exposed.

Over a hundred thousand warriors stood in defensive formations, yet none of them felt a hint of security. They peered at Cain, whose aura radiated terrifying power. He was a Monster, and they were just people.

“If we scatter, he will pick us off one by one,” Karun declared, his deep voice carrying across the rubble. “Our only chance is to stand together—to fight him with everything we have.”
