My Youth Began With Him

“Pff, don’t kid me. Okay, when I was younger, like, before I got into explosives, I didn’t want to be a mercenary at all.” “What did you want to be?”

Lu Yan lowered her head, had some beef soup, and seriously said, “I wanted to be an architect.”

“An architect?” Qiao Fei was a little taken aback, he felt as if the profession didn’t seem like Lu Yan’s type at all.

“Mhm, an architect…I didn’t even know what it was called back then, I just wanted to design houses when I grew up. I wanted to create beautiful houses for my family, friends, teachers, and classmates. I even wanted to build landmark buildings, like the Louvre of France, Taj Mahal, the Forbidden City of China, and other buildings that would be remembered for a long time. I feel accomplished thinking about others living in the buildings I designed.”

“That was a good dream,” Qiao Fei exclaimed.

“Mhm, and when I grew up, I finally understood that we can’t have what we want. So that’s why I’m envious of my sister. She wanted to be a doctor, so she did. Doing something she likes must be nice.”

“Yan, after we get rid of Ian, let’s change our names and move to a city you like. We’ll start anew. You won’t be the queen of the mercenary world and I won’t be the Young Master of the Qiao Family. We’ll live like normal people, okay?”

“Of course.” Lu Yan happily clapped like a little girl.

“What about you, Qiao Fei? If we can start a new life together, what would you want to do?”

“I want to open a restaurant.”

“Restaurant?” Lu Yan was also taken aback.

“Mhm, my family was actually in Huaxia a long time ago and my great-grandfather was actually a chef during the Qing Dynasty. His fish feast was well-known and he was summoned by the emperor to be a cook at the palace. After wars and a lot of unrest, we lost the craft. When he was still alive, he wanted my grandfather to be a cook as well, but he disagreed. My grandfather started doing illegal business, and here we are today. If we are able to escape our current identities and live anew, I want to open a restaurant.”

“Damn, that’s a good idea. What are you going to make? Stewed beef?” Lu Yan giggled.

“Of course not, I know how to make a lot of stuff. I did my research, I’ll cook for you every day.”

“Yay, I’ll be waiting.”

“So now you see the benefits of being my wife?” Qiao Fei started being narcissistic again.

“Pff, don’t kid yourself… You’re the one benefiting from the marriage, okay? I’ll protect you and nobody else can hurt you. Qiao Nan and Ian can go die in a ditch if they touch my man…” while speaking, Lu Yan reverted to her manly self.

Qiao Fei didn’t mind that at all…

He looked at Lu Yan with love in his eyes.

He felt that all the women in the world could not add up to Lu Yan’s child-like laugh.

Maybe loving was that simple. No matter how many lives they spent together, he would never be bored with her.
