My Youth Began With Him

“I’m trying to protect my sister. If I can keep Ian occupied, he won’t have time to chase down my sister,” Lu Yan answered nonchalantly.

“I knew it was because of Sis-in-Law…” Qiao Fei had guessed this already.

“My people informed me that because Ian failed to catch me after all these years, he went back to C City to search for Mian. Even if Huo Siqian keeps his mouth shut, with Ian’s powers, he’ll find out soon enough. Once he finds out who Mian is, she will be forced to run away like me, and be chased down by Ian’s people for the rest of her life. I don’t want that to happen to her…”

Yan, I know you want to protect your sister, but who’s going to protect you?” Qiao Fei looked at Lu Yan, grief-stricken.

“Me? I’m strong, I don’t need protection, I’ve been beating the odds since I was born… haha, trust me, my bombs are just as good as my dad’s.”

“But do you know how dangerous it is to wander in Ian’s territory, just so you can protect Sis-in-Law?”

“I do, the worst-case scenario is I get caught, right? Even if I do, I won’t let him use me to threaten my dad. Ian is a psychopath, he’ll force my dad into creating some biochemical weapon to destroy this world, and I’m not going to let that happen. A few years ago I decided that if he really caught me one day, I will kill myself. I’d rather die than let him use my life to coerce my dad.”

“You say it so nonchallantly, but are you really not afraid of dying?”

“If I was afraid of dying, I would’ve never become a mercenary. I’m used to living a life of blood and death… Qiao Fei, this is my destiny, and I refuse to blame others. I’ve lived a great life; I have been famous since birth since I am the daughter of Dr. Lu and Dr. Lin. Some medical researchers even said that they want to study my corpse after I die because they think I have mutated genetics, haha, since no everyone is born with that kind of aura above their heads. When I was at West Point, I tasted life’s bitterness, all the soldiers that graduated from that school did. Trust me, I was never afraid of dying. When I was 20 years old, I already had billions of dollars in my hands and was living a better life than the richest man in the world… I can eat a meal worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, and I could wear clothes worth millions. The handgun that I invented costs more than fifty million… Numbers like this are unimaginable for normal people, and I got to live a life others couldn’t, which is why I have to walk down a different path than normal people can’t… That’s what’s fair.”

“Yan, won’t you miss anyone if you die?” Qiao Fei asked with sadness in his tone. He was disappointed by the realization that Lu Yan didn’t love him as much as he loved her.

“Qiao Fei, I told you a long time ago that we’re not meant to be… I’m not marriage material, someone like you can choose whatever woman you want, you don’t have to die with me.”

“I don’t care, all I ever wanted was you,” Qiao Fei said.

“Why do you have to be so stubborn?” Lu Yan looked down; she felt bad for what she had done to Qiao Fei. “Mian has her husband and daughters, your father has your mother to think about… but who do you have?’ “I…” Lu Yan stammered; why did she suddenly feel a wave of sorrow?
