Child of Destiny

Chapter 2218: Close Call

...…

Boom!

The explosion immediately swallowed everything, particularly the pair at its centre, who were currently being sealed in ice.

Shin wanted to escape, but he knew that it was impossible at this moment. He could only sigh while trying his best to struggle.

He waited for the ice seal to be somewhat undone before swiftly using the version of the ʼEclipse Pulseʼ skill with the combined powers of Eternal Flame, Primordial Lightning, and Psychic Shadow to fight against the explosion.

This also gave him enough time to make sure to stab the [Durenda] into Leviathanʼs chest, making sure that he would be the one to land the killing blow. It was also meant for the legendary sword to purify the latter to unlock its seal.

The legendary sword [Durendal] was still in its sealed state, which was why Shin was unable to fully unleash its true potential. He needed to purify dark creatures to slowly unseal it, and demons were perfect for this matter, especially those at the level of True Demons or even at the level of Noble Demons.

He would never let such a chance slip away from his hands!

Even if it was still far from being enough to fully unseal the legendary, a meat was still a meat even if it was from a mosquito. Moreover, Leviathan was not your regular mosquito.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

However, this did not mean that Shin would be able to escape from his current predicament, especially when the massive demonic formation did not explode once, but in a series.

Leviathan was still wearing a smug smile despite being purified by Shin, which would also greatly hurt his foundation. It was like the counterpart of the players from the Righteous Churches when compared to the corruption that the demonic players of the Evil Factions did to them.

With such a massive explosion and dense demonic energy, Shin would surely be corrupted so long as he was killed.

Leviathan naturally knew that Shin had a special skill to defy death after seeing the latter use the ʼDeath Exemptionʼ skill attached to his equipment during the intense battles against Immortal and Ashura.

However, he also knew that Shin would only be able to defy death for a brief moment. So long as he was bombarded by a series of sure-kill attacks, he would still eventually die.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Leviathan was right since he immediately received a notification from the system telling him that he just killed the latter.

*Ding*

System: You have killed Player Sickarius! Initiating the corruption process!

Under the constant bombardment of the powerful explosions, the barrier that Shin had set up along with the help of his three unique powers eventually collapsed.

What followed was a series of explosions swallowing him and killed him in an instant. He could only sigh bitterly when he saw this.

But this sigh was not the same as the one that Leviathan was thinking. It was neither a sigh of regret nor powerlessness.

”Thatʼs a shame! I will have to gather more karma points after this.”

These were the words that came from Shinʼs mouth while he was dying.

Leviathan had no idea what happened next because he was already dying without regrets at this point. He seemed to have also forgotten about the Demonic Orb and the legendary sword [Permafrost] after successfully taking down this monster.

Unfortunately, this was also the reason why he was unable to see what happened next.

When the series of explosions finally subsided and later completely disappeared, the legendary sword [Durandal] was still floating at the spot where Shin had died.

It released an intense purifying light that warded off any of the demonic energy that was trying to corrupt Shinʼs in-game avatar at its dying breath.

Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!

This sword had even purified the surrounding environment, making sure that no foul energy would get near it.

Amid the destruction filling the surroundings, a spot of purified land remained untouched along with the holy sword floating at its centre.

It then suddenly fell and stabbed at the exact spot where Shin had died, gathering all his scattered spirits, which represented his ʼavatar soulʼ within the game.

If there were any priest or shaman within the area, then they would surely be able to figure out what was happening. It was a familiar sight whenever they were trying to resurrect someone and bringing them back from the dead!

Shin was being revived by his divine sword!

Swoosh!

Not long after, Shinʼs body was immediately formed, returning to its peak state. Not even a sign of being corrupted could be seen from him, which meant that his foundation was not affected by the earlier events.

Not even his absurdly high level dropped, signifying that he did not suffer any penalty from the earlier ʼdeathʼ.

------------------

Divine Rebirth (Passive/Active): Consumes all stacks of ʼGood Karmaʼ to resist death and come back to life.

Skill Note: Resurrecting on the same spot where you died and avoiding all the penalties of being killed.

Good Karma Points: 0/5,000

Note: Kill any dark creatures (Darkin, Demon, Corrupted Beings, Void Creatures, and such) of the same level or higher to gain one stack for regular ranks, two for elite ranks, three for special elites, four for chieftains and so on.

------------------

This was the skill that saved Shin from this ordeal, which was something attached to his divine sword.

(Reference Chapter 1729)

He just consumed all the accumulated Karma Points that he had ground during the big event that happened in the Divine Empire of the Awakened Continent.

It was indeed quite a pity that he had lost all these karma points and had to regrind them again from the start.

Right after being resurrected, Shin then swiftly picked up all the scattered items on the ground, which he had been dropped upon death. After all, he had quite a lot of important items that were guaranteed to drop upon death.

This was his first death in a long time, so he was quite quick to collect all the items. He had also collected the two items that Leviathan had dropped, the [Permafrost] and the Demonic Orb.

Shin was quite interest about the sword, but he did not have the time to look into its details since one of his ʼLegacy Skillsʼ instantly reacted to it right after the sword landed in his hands.

The legendary sword [Durendal] immediately disappeared, returning to its sheath form, even kicking out Solus, who was still possessing it.

Immediately after, an image of a huge mouth suddenly manifested from it before greedily devouring the other legendary sword that Shin had just gotten his hands on.

The sheath and the legacy skill attached to it seemed to be acting on its own once again!

It was as if they had a life of their own!

Before Shin could even react, the [Permafrost] sword in his hand immediately disappeared, making him stare blankly into it.

*Ding*

He had yet to recover from shock when the system finally informed him about what happened.

System: Legendary Sword [Permafrost] is being sacrificed for the ʼAbyssal Formʼ of the ʼMondiʼs Styleʼ!

System: The digestion process is required to fully convert the legendary sword.

System: The digestion process is estimated to last for at least an entire day (In-game Time).

System: The Legacy Skill – Mondiʼs Style will be temporarily sealed during the digestion process.

System: Starting the countdown 23:59:59.

…

Shin could only stare blankly at the familiar string of notifications, seemingly reminding him of something. ”I feel like that this has already happened before!?”

It was a sudden sense of déjà vu!

He then temporarily set this aside since he also knew that there was something more that he needed to deal with.

He was able to quickly secure the Demonic Orb and put it into his inventory bag. He did not encounter any problems in doing so since he noticed that the demonic energy that was lingering around was greatly exhausted.

It was clear that whatever Leviathan had done to it, he had also exhausted all the remaining powers contained in the orb, which then made it easier for Shin to take it away.

The little bit of demonic energy lingering around it would not be any threat to him, especially with all the special powers and higher forms of mana that he had.

Right after collecting everything, Shin immediately cast his gaze toward a certain direction while also keeping the unsheathed [Yamato] in his hand.

He knew that someone was watching the entire battle up until now. It was not Felicia, whom Shin had already found earlier. Instead, it was another person who seemed to be eyeing something from either Shin or Leviathan.

”Have you watched enough? I think it is time to reveal yourself,” said Shin while squinting his eyes and activating his True Sight skill.

He was not surprised that he was still unable to see the other party despite one of his unique traits, the [Eye of True], that he had acquired before.

(Reference Chapter 1730)

He felt like this skill was quite a scam since it had been ʼmalfunctioningʼ way too much recently.

First, it was suppressed within the Fallen Land of the Immortal Empire, preventing him from fully utilising its powerful ability to see through everything, including illusions.

At that time, he thought that it was because the seal and whatever sealed it in that place concerned extremely powerful beings like those at the extremely close or had already reached the threshold of the divine beings or the demon gods.

Aside from the usual features of True Sight ocular skill, he was unable to utilise any of this innate traitʼs special features.

Then there was this place, the Glacial Cave. This unique innate trait was once again suppressed to some extent for the second time.

He suspected that whatever lay beyond that sealed dimensional portal was yet another extremely powerful being at the same level as those within the secret land he came from, which prevented Shin from peering into its secrets.

It was also leaking out some of its energy into this dimension, affecting the environment and carrying a hint of its powers.

When he saw the system prompts when he accepted the quest invitation from Felicia, which then told him quite a few secrets of this place, Shin was able to figure out quite a few things.

However, they still require some evidence to fully prove his suspicions.

Unfortunately, he had to set this aside for now since he still had other things to deal with, particularly this hidden enemy.

He waited for quite a while until he saw a hazy silhouette waking out of the cloud of smoke filling the surroundings.

When he saw who it was, Shin neither showed a surprised expression nor confusion. He seemed to be somewhat expecting the appearance of the other party. ”So, it is you.”
