Endless Winter: My Camp Upgrades Infinitely

Chapter 1350: Chapter 438: Six-Tier Registration System, Stirring Breakthrough, Direction

The name Evergreen Valley is something that ordinary people can’t possibly understand.

A valley usually refers to a low, narrow area between two mountains, such as the Twin Dragon Valley of Great Xia, the Gourd Valley of Hanqiong, or even the Yinhe Valley of Jinshan Town.

Strictly speaking, Yinhe Valley’s name is somewhat misleading. Although it lies in the lower area of Moao Mountain, its east-to-west width reaches 30 kilometers, making it difficult to discern its valley terrain unless viewed from above.

Evergreen Valley is even more exaggerated.

Its east-to-west width averages over 40 kilometers, and even though its north-to-south depth extends over 200 kilometers, calling it a valley is barely tenable.

The word ”valley” might be a misnomer, but the term ”evergreen” has a certain rationale.

Influenced by the winds of the Bone-Eroding Path, the snowflakes and chilly air above the valley are blown away before they can settle, and coupled with the low-lying terrain, the temperature inside the valley is actually 20 to 30 percent higher than outside.

An increase of 20 to 30 percent in temperature might not mean a drastic change for humans, but it’s different for vegetation.

Without snow accumulation and with this two to three-degree temperature rise, the trees within the valley grow exceptionally tall. It particularly abounds in a type of lush, green giant tree. If someone flew over, they would find that, compared to the snowy exterior, the interior of the valley is dominated by green.

This is where the ”evergreen” term originates!

With such a vast valley terrain, it’s naturally not entirely flat, with many mountain bodies distributed inside, some reaching heights of two to three thousand meters, comparable to Twin Dragon Mountain.

These mountains are not interconnected, most standing alone, naturally becoming gathering and hunting grounds for humans in the valley.

Bang......

In a dense forest area six kilometers north of the Bone-Eroding Path, an eight-meter-long, ferocious-looking brown bear-type Cold Beast suddenly collapsed. The brown bear’s eyes were pierced with two Iron Arrows, and red blood continued to gush out from vulnerable areas like its neck and underarm.

”We did it!”

A young man in a gray cotton coat, holding a long knife, jumped to the bear’s head from the side, confirmed the bear’s complete demise, and couldn’t help but shout with excitement, his face full of joy and thrill.

The young man was none other than Su Zhi, the third of the Su family siblings.

”An Intermediate Yellow Armored Bear, with strength around 1.5 ao, and now the third brother can practically hunt it alone!”

Tthree young people—a man and a woman—suddenly jumped down from a nearby tree; they were the eldest brother, Su Jing, the second brother, Su Xu, and the youngest, the little sister, Su Xing’er.

Each of the three carried a strong bow, clearly having been responsible for blinding the bear’s eyes.

”Third brother just made a breakthrough and is already so impressive. I need to hurry up and breakthrough too!”

Su Xing’er, full of joy, slung the longbow over her shoulder, quickly retrieved several leather bags, and gathered beast blood from the bear’s wounds.

Su Jing glanced down at his sister, asking softly, ”Fourth, you’re just over two thousand pounds short of a Top-Grade War Body. Is there really no hope?”

Su Xu and Su Zhi both turned expectantly to look at Su Xing’er at his words, their faces eager with anticipation.

Faced with the hopeful looks of her three brothers, Su Xing’er naturally felt pressure, but after pondering for a moment, she softly replied, ”Even High-level Beast Blood isn’t effective anymore. I think I’ve already reached my limit.”

Hearing this, Su Jing and the others showed a tinge of regret on their faces.

”With Top-Grade Battle Body Talent, you can directly join the citizens’ register once certified by the Subordinate Bureau; once your strength reaches a certain level, transitioning to military service is a breeze; joining under a significant figure and being promoted to a noble status isn’t out of the question either.”

Hearing the second brother’s words, the regretful look on Su Jing and the others’ faces deepened, and they gently sighed.

”I once heard from the leader that anyone who transitions to military service usually lives in the County City. Among the 1.2 million people in Evergreen Valley, those with military service don’t even number 300; citizens just exceed 5,000, mainly forming the core layers of each village.”

Having said this, Su Jing sighed slightly.

Cai Qiu’s management model strictly adheres to the household registration system.

First, all inhabitants within the territory are divided into six classes: noble, aristocrat, military, civilian, slave, and base; detailed regulations concerning everything from ur clothing, food, housing, and movement areas, to their professions, and to their behavior, prevent anyone from overstepping;

Finally, these registers are uniformly managed by various Subordinate Bureaus; any change of status, whether it be an upgrade, downgrade, or removal, must go through them.

For everyone living within Cai Qiu’s territory, the household registration is of utmost importance. It’s not only proof of your identity but also the guideline for all your actions, and violating it constitutes a severe crime.

Besides the Six-Class System, another status exists outside its classifications: the livestock register, which includes Su Jing and his siblings, along with over 1.2 million residents in the Evergreen Valley area.

From the term ”livestock register,” it’s clear that the Cai Qiu Feudal Town essentially doesn’t treat them as people. Other than collecting tribute annually, or sending people down in a charitable sense to gather some servant laborers, they’re mostly neglected.

But that’s not entirely true; for things like needing sacrificial people for the Bone-Eroding Path, they’re still remembered.

Recalling this, a hint of self-mockery appeared on Su Jing’s face.

He remembered quite clearly; three years ago, their family of six was but a step away from being registered as citizens. Their father already had the strength of five manes, meeting the criteria for becoming a citizen, but to bring their mother and the four siblings into the register required an additional fee of 13,000 taels, thus thwarting their registration.
