Three Systems Made the Fake Heiress Unstoppable

Chapter 195: Chapter 195: Good Friends

The university announced it on their official website, and now all the students at Southbend University knew about it.

So, as Chloe York walked along the campus paths, every student she saw would call out, ”Chloe, congratulations!”

Chloe spent the entire walk saying thank you. It wasn’t until she finally reached her classroom that she could relax.

She hadn’t expected them to congratulate her on going abroad. It felt incredibly heartwarming, and her mood naturally lifted.

She took a seat in the middle of the classroom. A short while later, Wendy Winters arrived.

”Chloe, congratulations!” Wendy sat down, genuinely happy for her. Although the very first friend she had made in college was about to leave after they had only hung out for a few days, it didn’t matter. After all, Chloe was going as an exchange student.

”Thank you!” Thinking of Stella Winters, Chloe felt that Wendy and Stella were actually very similar. She had planned to introduce them when Stella returned, but unexpectedly, she was the one going abroad to meet up with Stella now.

”Once you’re out there, you absolutely cannot forget me! Also, any friends you make abroad, even if they’re girls, treat them like they’re the opposite sex—keep your distance! You can’t just make them your new best friends, got it?” Ever since Wendy found out Chloe was going abroad, she had been brainstorming what to say. The most important, absolute top priority was ensuring Chloe wouldn’t forget her old friend for new ones.

”I know, of course I won’t forget you!”

”Good. Also, don’t date any foreign guys. Take good care of yourself over there. If you know how to cook, cook for yourself; if you don’t, hire someone. But if you do hire someone, make sure you vet them carefully. After all, foreign countries aren’t like back home.

”Whatever you do and whoever you meet, be careful and keep your wits about you.”

Chloe suddenly felt like Wendy was acting like an old mother hen, constantly nagging and fussing over her. ”Alright, Wendy, you really do sound like an old mother hen!” she couldn’t help but interrupt, laughing at her friend.

”You’ve got some nerve, Chloe York! I’m just looking out for you, worried you might overlook something and get taken advantage of, and here you are calling me a mother hen.” Wendy deliberately put on an angry face.

Even though they hadn’t known each other for very long, their dynamic made it seem like they had been friends for years.

”Okay, okay, I was wrong. I know you’re just looking out for me. You’re so considerate, and I laughed at you—I’m such an ungrateful wretch.” Chloe preemptively insulted herself so Wendy wouldn’t have the chance to.

Hearing that last line, Wendy broke character and couldn’t hold back a laugh.

Seeing her laugh, Chloe sighed in relief, glad she had successfully coaxed her friend out of her fake anger.

”You! Oh, right!” Wendy hurriedly pulled out her phone and tapped away for a moment. Immediately after, Chloe’s phone chimed.

Picking it up, Chloe saw that Wendy had transferred tens of thousands of yuan to her.

”What are you doing?” Chloe was confused.

”You’re going abroad, which means you’ll definitely need to spend money. The York family certainly won’t give you a living allowance, but you’re still a student—where else would you get money? Take this, and if you run out, just tell me,” Wendy said generously.

She knew Chloe was the York family’s fake daughter, which meant they had surely cut off her allowance ages ago. Now that Chloe was proving to be so much more capable than their real daughter, they were even less likely to give her a dime. How was she supposed to survive abroad without money? Because of this, Wendy had given Chloe all the pocket money she had saved up over the last few months.

Her monthly allowance was twenty thousand yuan. Going forward, she figured she would keep ten thousand and give Chloe ten thousand—a perfect split. Wait, no. Chloe would be spending more abroad. She should give Chloe fifteen thousand and keep only five thousand for herself.

Having a friend like this left Chloe feeling incredibly touched. You didn’t need a lot of friends; having just one this sincere was enough. Besides, they had only known each other for a few days, yet Wendy had transferred tens of thousands to her without batting an eye.

”I have money. Plus, the university said they’re covering everything!”

”Really? The university is covering it all?” Wendy was shocked.

”Yeah, so take this money back!” Saying this, Chloe moved to tap the refund button to return the transfer. ℴℴ𝘮

Wendy suddenly grabbed her hand. ”That’s still a no!”

”Why not?”

”Look, you’ve already forgotten what I just warned you about. Always keep your wits about you! What if the university is just stringing you along to get you out of the country, and once you’re there, they stop paying? Or what if they only provide a tiny living allowance?”

Chloe felt it really wasn’t necessary. Even if the university tricked her, she had her own money! ”Wendy, listen to me. When I left the York family, I hustled a million yuan out of them.”

”A million?!” Wendy’s voice pitched up sharply. Realizing she was being too loud, she quickly glanced around. Fortunately, there weren’t many students in the classroom yet, and those who were present had headphones on, so no one heard her.

”Yeah, so I have plenty of money to use. You don’t need to worry. I know you saved this pocket money yourself, so keep saving it. If the day ever comes when I’m truly broke, you can give it to me then. How does that sound?”

”Alright then, but you absolutely have to tell me.” Hearing Chloe’s explanation, Wendy didn’t push the issue any further.

”I definitely will,” Chloe said, processing the refund on her phone.

The class bell rang right on cue. Students gradually took off their headphones, and the two girls stopped chatting to focus on the lecture.

Usually, Wendy would constantly look for opportunities to chat with Chloe during class, but today she was unusually quiet. She looked like she was paying attention, but her mind seemed miles away.

After class, Chloe and Wendy headed to the cafeteria for lunch.

Arriving at the cafeteria, they ran into Evan Shaw with almost dramatic timing.

”Chloe, it seems we really are meal buddies. There’s a ninety-five percent chance we’ll bump into each other whenever it’s time to eat,” Evan said in an amused tone.

Granted, sometimes he deliberately approached her and pretended it was a coincidence, but other times they genuinely just bumped into each other. Clearly, they were fated to be meal buddies.

”You can say that again!” Chloe also felt they shared a strong meal-buddy destiny. Who else always happened to run into each other at mealtime? Probably only her and Evan.

Wendy looked at Evan, then back at Chloe. The ship she had been rooting for was ultimately not going to sail. Still, seeing the two of them together was quite a treat for the eyes.

The three of them ended up sitting together for their meal, though none of them brought up the topic of studying abroad again. It felt like a rather melancholic subject that no one wanted to touch.

After eating, they went their separate ways—those with classes headed off to them, and those without headed home.

Chloe didn’t have any more classes, so she planned to head back. However, the moment she stepped out of the academic building, she saw Ethan Prescott.

Ethan was leaning against the railing. He was clearly waiting for her, because the moment he spotted her, he immediately stood up straight and locked eyes with her.

Chloe wanted to ignore him and walk straight past, but Ethan deliberately stepped in her path.

”What do you want?” Chloe asked, her tone laced with impatience.
