Three Systems Made the Fake Heiress Unstoppable

Chapter 155: Chapter 155: Destroying the Marriage Contract

”Oh my, my daughter is so beautiful. All dressed up like this, Chloe York doesn’t stand a chance against you.” Looking at the dolled-up Brooke York, Alice Cole grew more and more pleased.

She didn’t know why Brooke York had been so unsightly when she was born, but now that she had grown into her looks and was all dressed up, she was clearly a little beauty!

Flattered by Alice Cole’s praise, Brooke York also looked at herself in the mirror. Indeed, she too felt she was stunningly beautiful.

”By the way, Mom, will Ethan Prescott be there? Is he back?”

”I’m not sure about that. She didn’t say. But since the Prescott Family was the one to suggest it, Ethan Prescott must be there! If Ethan Prescott isn’t there, your father and I won’t agree to this.”

Hearing Alice Cole’s words, Brooke York grabbed her mother’s hand and whined playfully, ”Mom~ You and Dad have to agree.”

”Oh, dear. My daughter isn’t even married yet, and she’s already taking his side. You’re breaking your mother’s heart.” Alice Cole pretended to be heartbroken by Brooke York’s words.

Blushing at the obvious teasing, Brooke York glanced at her reflection again. She felt as beautiful as a goddess. ’Ethan Prescott will definitely, definitely like me when he sees me today.’

”Ma’am, Miss, the master is asking if you’re ready.”

”We’re ready, we’re ready. Let’s go, Brooke. We’re going downstairs.”

”Okay!”

Brooke York went downstairs on Alice Cole’s arm. Miles York glanced at the dolled-up Brooke and nodded in satisfaction.

”When we get to the restaurant, you maintain this polite demeanor. Do you understand?”

”I know, Dad!”

The family got in the car and headed to the restaurant Sophia Quinn had chosen.

When they arrived, Sophia Quinn and Miss Prescott were already there.

However, Arthur Prescott and Ethan Prescott were nowhere to be seen. Seeing this, both Brooke York and Alice Cole were a little unhappy, feeling they weren’t being taken seriously. Miles York, on the other hand, wasn’t displeased.

Arthur Prescott was a very busy man, and Ethan Prescott was just a boy. Besides, he was already satisfied with Ethan Prescott, so there was no need for them to meet.

”You know, thinking about it, our two families haven’t gotten together since we all sat down for a meal back when the engagement was first settled.”

Alice Cole’s implication was clear: they were the ones who wanted to marry her daughter, yet they weren’t being the least bit proactive about it.

Not expecting Alice Cole to suddenly be so passive-aggressive, Miles York shot her a glare and quickly offered an apologetic smile. ”Mrs. Prescott, Miss Prescott, my wife is a blunt person who speaks without thinking. Please excuse her!”

”It’s fine. Please, sit.” Sophia Quinn didn’t mind. ’In any case, I won’t have to deal with this kind of person in the future.’

Before, she had been fond of Chloe York but disliked Alice Cole, and no one knew what a difficult position that put her in. Now, things were fine. She would never have to interact with Alice Cole again.

”Hello, Auntie. Hello, Grandma!” Brooke York took the opportunity to greet Sophia Quinn and Miss Prescott.

The two women both just nodded in response.

Alice Cole was about to fly off the handle. ’Her daughter was being so polite, greeting them like that, and their attitude was so cold! Do they still want to marry my daughter or not?’

Brooke York was also annoyed. ’They’re the ones who want me as their daughter-in-law, yet they’re treating me so coldly, acting all high and mighty.’

But when Miles York’s gaze swept over them, both of them fell silent and sat down with him.

The table fell quiet. Since it was mostly women, it seemed inappropriate for Miles York to say anything.

But if Alice Cole spoke, she would just offend someone. Fortunately, the waiter started serving the food just then, and it was clear from Sophia Quinn’s demeanor that she intended to wait until after the meal to talk.

The atmosphere was a bit strange. Miss Prescott was the first to pick up her chopsticks, and soon everyone else began to eat as well.

The atmosphere suddenly made Brooke York feel uneasy. ’Something doesn’t seem right.’ She shot a questioning look at Alice Cole, who gave her a reassuring glance in return. After that, Brooke York stopped overthinking it and focused on her meal.

Half an hour later, everyone had gradually finished eating and put down their chopsticks. A waiter came in to clear the tableware and set out tea and dessert.

After taking a sip of tea, Sophia Quinn finally spoke slowly, revealing the reason for the gathering. ”The main reason I’ve organized this gathering today is to dissolve the engagement between our two children.”

”Fine, fine, no problem! You know, if you ask me, Mr. Prescott and Chloe grew up together, and you know what they say about childhood sweethearts—familiarity breeds contempt. It’s time for them to get on the right track and be with the people they were meant to be with.”

With that last sentence, Miles York had all but said Brooke York’s name aloud.

Sophia Quinn nodded. ”You’re right. In that case, why don’t we just tear up the marriage contract right here and now? That would officially dissolve it, wouldn’t it?”

”Yes, yes! We can do that!” Alice Cole immediately agreed, assuming they would then draw up a new marriage contract with Brooke York’s and Ethan Prescott’s names.

But Miles York felt something was off. To be on the safe side, he voiced his own idea: ”No need to tear it up, right? We can just change the name on it.”

Miles York’s words displeased both Alice Cole and Brooke York. ’What does he mean, ”just change the name”? Wouldn’t that make it look like Brooke York stole Chloe York’s engagement? And on the same contract, no less! What would that look like? Does Brooke York not deserve a new contract of her own?’

”No changing, no changing! Let’s just tear it up! Why would we change it? Scribbling all over it would look terrible,” Alice Cole refused, quickly pulling out their copy of the marriage contract.

”Since we’re all in agreement, shall we destroy it?”

”Yes, yes!” Alice Cole and Brooke York both nodded vigorously, as if afraid that if they were a second too slow to agree, the engagement would no longer be voided.

The two copies of the marriage contract were laid on the table. Sophia Quinn directly lit one with a lighter. A waiter immediately placed a basin on the table, and Miles York lit the other copy as well.

Soon, under everyone’s watchful eyes, the two marriage contracts were reduced to a pile of black ash in the basin. Seeing the contract officially null and void, Brooke York couldn’t help but let out a small laugh before quickly composing herself.

”Now that the engagement contract is void, there is one more thing I need to announce.”

Hearing Sophia Quinn’s words, Alice Cole excitedly squeezed Brooke York’s hand. The two shared a look, and both could see the glee in the other’s eyes. They were sure that Sophia Quinn was about to announce Brooke’s engagement to Ethan Prescott.

”We want to adopt Chloe York as a daughter of our Prescott Family. Chloe has already agreed. This is merely a notification, not a negotiation.”

”What?”

”Miss Prescott, Mrs. Prescott... but don’t our two families still have an engagement? Brooke and Mr. Prescott can still fulfill the engagement set by the previous generation! And of course, Chloe can become your goddaughter. That would be a double blessing!”

Miles York thought he had a wonderful plan: one daughter marrying into the Prescott Family as a daughter-in-law, the other becoming their goddaughter. This way, his family and the Prescott Family would be inextricably linked.

And then, their York Family would become a new powerhouse clan.
