Three Systems Made the Fake Heiress Unstoppable

Chapter 154: Chapter 154: A Family’s Fantasy

Cancel the engagement with Chloe York? Absolutely not. He was still trying to make it work. How could they cancel it without his consent, especially when he was the one involved?

”It’s not about whether you agree or not. Chloe is the one demanding to break off the engagement. Who’s to blame? When she was willing to be with you, you didn’t want her and found her annoying. And now? You want her back, but she doesn’t want you anymore.”

”Chloe demanded it?”

”Yes. The young lady herself is demanding to break the engagement with you, so what can your grandmother and I do? What kind of world are we living in? This is a society with laws. We can’t just force a girl to marry you, can we? Son, our family might have some money, but this isn’t some feudal society. We can’t force people to do things against their will, you understand?”

Sophia Quinn’s words sounded like she was trying to persuade Ethan Prescott, but something about them felt off.

In the end, Ethan Prescott said nothing more and just hung up.

”Well? What did he say?” Miss Prescott asked from her seat beside her.

”At first, he said he wouldn’t agree. Then after I said all that, he didn’t say another word and just hung up.” Sophia Quinn didn’t seem to care in the slightest about Ethan Prescott’s feelings.

’To her, this was all of Ethan’s own making. He was a grown man and needed to take responsibility for his actions. This whole incident was a lesson for him: think things through before you act, and don’t just cast someone aside so carelessly.’

”Sigh... I just hope he can accept it soon.” Miss Prescott didn’t want to meddle in the younger generation’s affairs anymore. All she knew was that she was very fond of Chloe York and didn’t want to see her wronged—not even if the person wronging her was her own grandson.

”I’ll call the York Family and set up a meeting. Let’s get this settled as soon as possible.” Sophia Quinn didn’t want to drag this out any longer. She could also sense that Chloe York wanted to dissolve the engagement quickly.

Miss Prescott nodded in agreement.

When Miles York received Sophia Quinn’s call and learned she wanted to arrange a dinner for both families, he was overjoyed. Ever since the engagement was first set, the Prescott Family had never once suggested the two families share a meal.

’Doesn’t this mean they’re finally going to discuss the children’s marriage?’ So, without any hesitation, Miles York agreed at once.

He didn’t even bother looking at his documents anymore, rushing home to tell Alice Cole.

Hearing that the Prescott Family had invited their family to dinner, Alice Cole was equally ecstatic.

”See? I told you! How could they possibly not like Brooke? Even if that old hag Sophia Quinn doesn’t like her, there are other people in the family. Does she really think she can decide everything by herself? Mr. Prescott and Miss Prescott are the ones in charge of that family. What right does Sophia Quinn have to make the decision?”

Alice Cole was smug. In her eyes, Sophia Quinn’s invitation was a clear signal that they had their sights set on Brooke York to be their daughter-in-law.

”Just stop talking so much. Make sure Brooke is on her best behavior on the day of the dinner.”

Miles York believed that Sophia Quinn’s call inviting their family to dinner was really about swapping the marriage contract. Therefore, Brooke York had to be impeccably dressed to impress them.

”You don’t have to tell me. I already know.”

An idea striking her, Alice Cole quickly called Brooke York.

At that moment, Brooke York was still watching Chloe York, staring at her every second like a sinister shadow.

When she saw Alice Cole calling her, Brooke York felt a little impatient. Alice’s calls rarely brought good news. She’d rather spend the time keeping a closer eye on Chloe York.

So she hung up immediately. She didn’t expect that Alice would call right back.

Left with no choice, Brooke York answered impatiently, ”What do you want? I’m in class, you know!”

”Brooke, Mom’s calling to tell you some good news.”

Alice Cole seemed completely oblivious to Brooke York’s incredibly impatient tone. Instead, she was thrilled to share the good news.

”What good news?”

’As far as Brooke York was concerned, the only thing that qualified as good news was bad news about Chloe York. Anything else didn’t count.’

”The Prescotts just called your dad. They want our two families to get together. Your dad thinks they’re probably going to arrange an engagement for you and Ethan Prescott, and cancel the one with Chloe York.”

”What? Really?” Hearing Alice Cole’s words, Brooke York’s earlier impatience vanished instantly. She was suddenly so happy she couldn’t help but grip her phone with both hands, trembling with excitement.

”Of course! Would Mom lie to you? The call just came in. Your dad said you should come home tomorrow and get yourself all dressed up.”

”Okay, I’ll be back tonight.” Brooke York could hardly wait.

”Good.”

Hanging up, Brooke York watched Chloe York in the distance, who had just bought dinner and was heading back to her rented apartment. A smirk played on her lips. ’Chloe York, oh, Chloe York. So what if you work hard? So what if you’re outstanding? So what if you got into Southbend University? The Prescott Family still wants me, not you!’

Brooke York withdrew her gaze and left, triumphant. ’Once I marry into the Prescott Family, Chloe York will be completely and utterly beneath me.’

That very evening, Brooke York returned to the York residence. She had to confirm things with Alice Cole again; it all felt like a dream.

’She had thought she’d lost her chance to be with Ethan Prescott, her chance to marry into the Prescott Family, especially after how Sophia Quinn had treated them before. But now, she was suddenly being told she had a chance after all.’

”Mom, are the Prescotts really organizing this dinner to switch the engagement?”

”Of course, it’s true! Look, you got into Southbend University too, right? The Prescotts saw that you also got into Southbend, and you have such a wonderful personality. They must want you! You see that Chloe York—she got into Southbend just like you, and now her nose is so high in the air she can’t see anyone else. Besides, she’s from the countryside. So, of course, they took the initiative to have our families meet. They definitely want to switch the marriage contract.”

Hearing Alice Cole’s praise, Brooke York shyly lowered her head.

”Honey, listen to me. You absolutely have to dress your best and make a very, very good impression on The Prescotts.”

”Mm-hm, I’ll definitely be dressed beautifully tomorrow.”

That night, even in her sleep, the corners of Brooke York’s mouth were turned up in a happy smile.

The next day, Brooke York woke up bright and early. Alice Cole had already arranged for a makeup artist and a hairstylist, who were already there.

After two hours of primping, Brooke York was dressed in a yellow dress, her hair tied into a ponytail, with every single strand meticulously styled.
