All Worlds Beg the Villainess to Act Like a Human

Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Her Empire Is Unrivaled

After the court session, Xun Zihuai left together with Qiann Yan.

Only when their figures disappeared did the previously argumentative ministers retract their gaze, suddenly realizing their backs were soaked with sweat.

”Mind your own household affairs first; you dare meddle with the emperor’s harem. Who gave you the courage? Our emperor is not like those past rulers; how can you think she is someone you can influence?” One of the military officers started mocking. This group of sour individuals always conjures crooked thoughts whenever they have a moment of idleness.

”Lord State Preceptor is right. If you have the leisure, it’s better to think more about how to govern the country and make Yaan Country better. The day there are no beggars in Yaan Country, that will be the real achievement.”

Doing nothing but staring at the emperor’s harem every day is truly a waste of a good position. There are plenty of young talents in line eager to serve the emperor.

Meanwhile, Xun Zihuai’s initial elation had subsided, and as he pondered, he wondered what exactly he was thrilled about.

She is the emperor, and he is the State Preceptor.

He admires her, yet she seemingly has no such thoughts. With this realization, Xun Zihuai felt a pang of disappointment in his heart.

”What’s wrong? You look so downcast. Are you facing a problem?”

Qiann Yan keenly noticed the sudden drop in Xun Zihuai’s spirits; the brilliance on his face had vanished. It was hard to imagine that the fiery young State Preceptor, who had just retorted to so many ministers at court, was the same person.

”Your Majesty, do you plan to take an Imperial Husband or accept concubines?” Xun Zihuai asked softly.

Qiann Yan: ”So even the State Preceptor is starting to care about my lifelong affairs.”

”I’m just asking, with no other intent.” Xun Zihuai pursed his lips. He was merely inquiring. If she had no such intentions, he would be happy, yet at the same time, unhappy. If she did have such intentions, he would be unhappy, yet at the same time, happy.

He seemed to be caught in a contradiction.

His master said he was very wise, yet now, trapped in this, he didn’t know how to resolve it. Had he not understood this matter, he wouldn’t be troubled by it.

Now that he’s understood his feelings, he wished he could glue his eyes on her, constantly watching her, fearing someone might snatch this great treasure away. This feeling of apprehension wasn’t pleasant.

”I have no intention of marrying an Imperial Husband, nor will I accept concubines.”

Qiann Yan stated her intentions. She was here on a mission, with a side trip for pleasure, not to find a man.

Becoming the emperor was simply to wield power conveniently and not be passive, and she especially didn’t want Hee Qingshan to benefit from this vast empire.

As an emperor, there was no need for her to follow the precedent of past emperors by filling the harem, as that was utterly meaningless to her.

She had no lustful inclinations and already had an heir, making it unnecessary to further her lineage.

If she truly had to further her lineage, it’s not that men bear children, who would suffer but women. Was she idly finding trouble for herself?

First, there was Hee Qingshan discarding people after they outlived their usefulness, a heartless and ungrateful wretch, and then there were those noble sons wishing to squeeze into her harem, which was also merely for profit.

The game of interests was not something she wished to play with such people.

She placed little importance on blood relations, having experienced an unlimited cycle of lifetimes, she viewed no emotion too heavily.

Xun Zihuai sensed the chill from Qiann Yan, knowing it wasn’t directed at him, yet he still felt a bit stifled. Clearly, he should be happy that she wouldn’t marry an Imperial Husband or accept concubines.

However, seeing her indifferent demeanor, he felt a tint of sorrow for himself. This suggested it would be difficult for him to enter her heart.
