The Entry-plundering Demon Hunter

Chapter 221: Chapter 220: Martial God’s Friend

After Xiaoqi had eaten its fill.

Lin Yi finally came out of his room.

”Huh? Lin Yi, you’re awake?”

In the living room, Feng Lei and Wei Shang were sitting on the sofa, watching TV.

Lin Yi was slightly taken aback, then nodded with a smile. ”Just woke up. Why aren’t you guys at the Cultivation Field?”

Wei Shang and Feng Lei both had heavy, dark circles under their eyes.

It looked like they hadn’t rested at all.

They had learned their lesson the hard way.

Ever since they fell asleep yesterday and lost track of Lin Yi, they hadn’t dared to rest after getting back today.

They had been sitting guard in the living room, terrified of a repeat of yesterday’s events.

Wei Shang laughed. ”Nah, it was too crowded there today. Figured it wouldn’t hurt to take a day off!”

”By the way, do you guys have any plans for today?”

he asked tentatively.

Lin Yi shook his head. ”No plans for now. I was about to get something to eat.”

Hearing this, Wei Shang and Feng Lei exchanged a look.

”Perfect timing. We’re a little hungry too. Why don’t we go together?”

Lin Yi: ”...”

The feeling Wei Shang and Feng Lei gave Lin Yi now was that they were monitoring him.

He’d had this feeling ever since they first met yesterday.

Otherwise, Lin Yi and Wei Nan wouldn’t have snuck off while their backs were turned.

And today, they were sitting in the living room as if terrified Lin Yi would run off again.

Lin Yi smiled and nodded, not refusing.

”I’ll go get Wei Nan first!”

With that, he walked over to Wei Nan’s room.

He knocked, and a moment later, Wei Nan opened the door.

Just as he was about to speak, Lin Yi shot him a look.

Only then did Wei Nan notice Wei Shang and the other guy sitting in the living room.

”Ah... uh, what’s up? I was thinking of sleeping a little longer,” Wei Nan said, clearing his throat.

Lin Yi laughed. ”Come on, let’s go to the cafeteria. I’ve been sleeping this whole time, and now I’m starving!”

Wei Nan nodded. ”Alright, let me grab a jacket!”

He then went back into his room.

Lin Yi followed him inside.

”What’s the situation? Have those two been sitting out there this whole time?” Wei Nan asked in a low voice.

Lin Yi nodded. ”Yeah. At least, they were there when I came out.”

”Holy shit, they’re like ghosts you can’t shake. You don’t think they’re watching us, do you?” Wei Nan’s brow furrowed.

Lin Yi had the same feeling.

Besides, Wei Shang and Feng Lei were always trying to get close to them.

”Let’s just put our cards on the table. Have a good talk with them and find out what they’re really after.”

”After all, we have to live with them in the same dorm for the next three years. We can’t let this go on.”

After Lin Yi finished, Wei Nan nodded.

”Alright, I’ll go out and have a chat with them right now!”

”You stay here. I’ll talk to them.”

Lin Yi stopped Wei Nan.

’He has an impulsive personality.’

If the talk went south and they started fighting, it would be bad.

They still had to live together for three years, and a dorm in Zone 1 wasn’t something you could just get into.

Plus, you couldn’t request a transfer. If they couldn’t switch dorms...

’How would they get along for the next three years?’

Wei Nan didn’t say anything, just nodded.

Then, Lin Yi opened the door and walked out.

”Are we ready to go?”

The moment Lin Yi stepped out of the room, Wei Shang and Feng Lei both shot to their feet.

Lin Yi shook his head with a smile. ”Just a minute, he needs to use the restroom.”

”Oh, sure!”

Wei Shang nodded with a smile and sat back down on the sofa with Feng Lei.

Lin Yi sat down as well.

The TV was off now, and the living room fell silent.

The three of them, each lost in their own thoughts, fidgeted awkwardly.

After a long silence, Lin Yi finally spoke with a smile. ”We’ve only known each other for two days, but I’ve noticed you two are a bit different from the other local students.”

”Different? How so?”

Wei Shang was stunned for a moment, then exchanged a glance with Feng Lei.

Truthfully, they had been looking for an opportunity to clear up the misunderstanding with Lin Yi.

To gain his trust.

But it was a tricky opportunity to seize. If they tried to explain too abruptly, it would just make things sound worse.

When Lin Yi spoke first, Wei Shang realized the chance to clear the air had arrived.

”The local students don’t seem very friendly toward us Martial Arts candidates from the Old District.”

”Some are even hostile. But you guys are different...”

At that, Wei Shang smiled.

”You mean because we’re not hostile toward you, and we’re especially enthusiastic, right?” Wei Shang finished the thought for him.

Lin Yi nodded. ”That’s right.”

”Actually, that’s perfectly normal. It takes all kinds to make a world.”

”The fundamental reason the local students are hostile toward you candidates from the Old District is an innate sense of pride.”

”They all believe that since they were born in the New District, enjoying the best living conditions and the most abundant cultivation resources, they are different. Unlike you candidates, who spend eighteen years struggling just to get into a Martial Arts University.”

”The local students don’t have those worries at all. Simply because of where they were born, they’ve been here since birth, so they don’t have to strive for the Martial Arts exam.”

”So, that innate pride makes them look down on the candidates from the Old District even more.”

”There’s even a saying that you all come to the New District to compete with the local students for cultivation resources.”

”However, we think completely differently from them!”

”I believe that whether you’re a local student or a candidate from the Old District, apart from our different starting points, there’s no real difference. We also have score requirements and need to meet qualifications to get into our desired universities.”

”It might be a bit easier than it is for you candidates, but it still requires talent and hard work!”

”Also... I really admire you Martial Arts candidates.”

”Although I’ve never been to the Old District and don’t know what it’s like, I’ve heard things from others. Your cultivation resources are scarce, and you have to deal with harassment from demon beasts.”

”To be able to pass the exam in that kind of environment is truly not easy.”

”Therefore, I don’t think we should be hostile to each other. We can be friends, too.”

Wei Shang’s intentions were already very clear.

He wanted to do everything he could to eliminate Lin Yi’s misunderstanding of them so they could become friends.

But after hearing all this, Lin Yi didn’t respond immediately.

’Wei Shang was right about one thing.’

’The world is a big place, with both good birds and bad.’

Not all local students would be hostile to the Martial Arts candidates from the Old District.

Some had shown kindness.

It was just that Wei Shang and Feng Lei’s excessive enthusiasm still kept Lin Yi on his guard.

’Even if it’s true what he said, that we shouldn’t be hostile or wary of each other...’

’...there’s no need to try this hard to cozy up to us, right?’

However, Lin Yi truly couldn’t detect any hint of conspiracy from Wei Shang.

He smiled. ”Of course. The fact that we ended up in this dorm yesterday was a kind of fate.”

Hearing this, a flash of joy crossed Wei Shang’s eyes.

Although Lin Yi hadn’t completely let his guard down around them.

But things had improved.

At least the tension wasn’t as high as before.

For Wei Shang and Feng Lei, this was definitely a good thing.

It was a step forward.

’Maybe in the future, we can even become friends with a Martial God?’

”Alright, let’s go!”

Just then, Wei Nan came out of the room.

Lin Yi smiled and nodded, and Wei Shang and Feng Lei quickly stood up as well.

The four of them walked out of the dorm together.

Since it was now afternoon.

It was past lunchtime, but not yet time for dinner.

The cafeteria was sparsely populated, with no more than ten people inside.

They were all sitting far apart, mostly in groups of one or two per table.

After Lin Yi’s group came in, they scanned their surroundings.

They didn’t see Zhou Qi or Sun Tao.

Wei Nan frowned and said, ”Strange. Zhou Qi just messaged me saying they were eating here. Why aren’t they here yet?”

”Let’s eat while we wait, then,” Lin Yi replied with a light laugh.

So, the four of them took their trays to get food.

The benefits of Zone 1 became apparent at this moment.

In any other residential zone, coming to eat at this awkward time would mean either the food wasn’t ready yet, or it would be like the various stalls at a regular university.

You’d just pay for whatever you wanted to order.

In Zone 1, however, no matter what time you came, there would always be food.

As long as they were open, there were no restrictions.

Having skipped lunch, Lin Yi and Wei Nan piled their trays high with food.

When they found a table and sat down, the expressions on Wei Shang and Feng Lei’s faces changed abruptly.

Looking at their two mountain-like trays, they asked in surprise, ”That’s so much food! Can you finish it all?”

Hearing this, Wei Nan glanced at them with a smirk.

”Drop the ’Can you?’ from that question. I’m starving to death. I was killing monsters all last night, only ate a little something this morning, and it’s long since been digested...”

Wei Nan blurted it out without any reservations.

Only then did he realize what he’d said and quickly shut his mouth.

Wei Shang and Feng Lei just smiled as if they hadn’t heard a thing.

They lowered their heads and ate the food on their own trays.

This sense of distance made Wei Nan feel a wave of awkwardness.

Lin Yi just smiled and said nothing.

Just as the two of them were halfway through their meal.

Zhou Qi and Sun Tao arrived, greeting Lin Yi’s group as soon as they entered the cafeteria.

They quickly got their food and headed toward their table.

When Zhou Qi saw that Feng Lei and Wei Shang were also there.

He was slightly taken aback at first, then gave a polite greeting.

”What took you two so long?” Wei Nan asked, looking up at them.

Sun Tao quickly replied, ”Ugh, don’t even ask. We just got into an argument with the two local students in our dorm!”

”Huh? How’d you get into an argument?”

Lin Yi was surprised and asked curiously.

In contrast, Wei Shang and Feng Lei looked a little awkward.

They had just been in the dorm talking about clearing up misunderstandings, and now Zhou Qi and Sun Tao had gone and gotten into a fight with local students.

The two of them laughed, both looking a bit unnatural.

Inwardly, Wei Shang was cursing out the two local students from Zhou Qi’s dorm.

”They were just bragging. Said they went to Jail City last night, killed several 1-star demon beasts, and even ran into two 2-star Demon Beasts!”

”They were boasting that if they had seen any 3-star ones, they would’ve killed them too!”

”Zhou Qi and I weren’t even going to pay them any mind, but who knew they’d come over to show off to us, saying that we Martial Arts candidates from the Old District were useless and would just get ourselves killed if we went...”

”It’s a good thing the New District has so many rules, or I would’ve beaten the crap out of them!”

Sun Tao said, his face full of indignation.

But as soon as he finished speaking.

BANG—

Wei Nan slammed his palm on the table.

”Holy shit, how can you tolerate that? Let’s go get them!”
