The Entry-plundering Demon Hunter

Chapter 208: Chapter 208: Mission Hall

A short while later, the group had gotten their food and found a large, empty table to sit at.

”I can’t believe all the food in the cafeteria is made with Demon Beast Meat!” Wei Nan said with a huge smile as he sat down.

He’d never been to a Martial Arts Hall, and before the martial arts exam, he had been in seclusion deep in the mountains.

That’s why he was so surprised to find that all the dishes in the cafeteria were made from Demon Beast Meat.

Lin Yi, Zhou Qi, and Sun Tao, however, were also surprised.

They were amazed that the Demon Beast Meat was all 3-star grade.

Occasionally, there would be one or two dishes made from 5-star Demon Beast Meat.

It was just that meat from high-level demon beasts would be limited.

Wei Shang and Feng Lei exchanged a look.

”That’s not strange, is it? The cafeterias in the Old District’s Martial Arts Halls should have dishes made with Demon Beast Meat, right?”

”Er... I’ve never been to a Martial Arts Hall!”

Wei Nan smiled awkwardly.

Wei Shang didn’t say anything in response.

Although he was born and raised in the New District and had never been to the Old District, he had heard things about it from others.

Especially for those living in the Old District, economic conditions weren’t very good.

Many families couldn’t even afford the registration fee for the martial arts exam.

So, it was actually normal not to have been to a Martial Arts Hall.

The fees for Martial Arts Halls were generally very expensive.

Without the support of local reimbursement policies, it was difficult for ordinary families to afford going to one.

”After we finish eating, I’ll take you guys to the Mission Hall to have a look!”

”Even though we’re all new students who just enrolled, the school has a rule that we have to complete an enrollment mission within one week!”

”Don’t you all have wristbands? You can check it on your wristbands yourselves!”

After Wei Shang said that,

Lin Yi and the others remembered their wristbands.

They quickly checked them.

Sure enough, there was a notification that new students had to complete an enrollment mission within one week.

There were no other requirements; as long as the mission was completed within the specified time, it was fine.

And any mission would do.

”After you complete the enrollment mission, the difficulty of the missions will gradually increase.

They’ll also be categorized based on our current year!”

”Let me put it this way: we’re freshmen who’ve just enrolled, so the initial missions won’t be too hard. For example, killing one or two demon beasts or other anomalous beasts of any level!”

”Or you just need to earn a certain amount of academic credit... Anyone who’s played games knows this!”

”You can call these beginner missions!”

”But, once you’re a sophomore, the mission difficulty will increase sharply!”

”In other words, during freshman year it’s any mission you want, but by sophomore year, you’ll be assigned to hunt a specific type of demon beast or anomalous beast!”

”By junior year, it’s like running a dungeon in a video game!”

”There will be a designated location, just like going on an expedition. It’s only considered complete after you obtain a specific mission item. Luckily, you can form a team, and as long as you get the required item, the entire squad completes the mission together!”

Wei Shang explained the school’s mission system to Lin Yi and the others while he ate.

Lin Yi’s group all ate while carefully committing everything to memory.

Finally, Wei Nan couldn’t help but ask, ”Wei Shang, aren’t you a new student too? How do you know so much?”

Wei Shang smiled, swallowing the food in his mouth.

He picked up his cup of water and took a sip.

”It’s nothing special. My brother and sister were both students at Xingwu University, but they’ve already graduated.”

”One works at the central Demon Hunting Bureau, and the other is a member of a Demon Hunting Squad!”

”This is all stuff they told me before. Later on, at the Martial Arts Hall, I also got to know some upperclassmen, and they talked about missions too!”

”Anyway, this information isn’t some big secret. Every university has its own missions!”

”It’s just that the missions at our Xingwu University are relatively harder. You might even lose your life!”

”The really insane one is actually Martial Alliance University!”

”They do their missions in the Restricted Area, working alongside the military Defenders stationed there!”

”And what they face are the *truly* anomalous beasts from inside the Restricted Area!”

”The slightest mistake can cost you your life. It’s incredibly dangerous!”

Feng Lei, who was beside him, also nodded in agreement.

”That’s right. The dangers of the Restricted Area aren’t something we can mess with, and the anomalous beasts in there aren’t something we can handle. I remember over a year ago, I met some upperclassmen at the Martial Arts Hall who were students at Martial Alliance University. They later went on a mission into the Restricted Area!”

”In the end, not a single one from their eight-person squad made it back alive!”

”There was also a Martial Arts Alliance squad. Twelve people went in, and only two came back—and both of them had been driven insane!”

”I’m not exaggerating when I tell you that out of all the universities in the New District, Martial Alliance University has the fewest students.

It’s not that they can’t recruit students, it’s mainly that they die too fast!”

”Before they can even bring in a new class, a fifth of the previous year’s students are already gone!”

As they listened to the explanation from the two of them, Wei Nan, Zhou Qi, and Sun Tao...

...felt a chill run down their spines.

They couldn’t help but secretly think, ’Thank goodness we chose to come to Xingwu University with Lin Yi.

If we’d chosen the wrong university and gone to Martial Alliance University...

...we probably wouldn’t even qualify to be cannon fodder.

At best, we’d just be delivering takeout to those anomalous beasts.’

For a moment, Wei Nan and the others fell silent.

After they had lowered their heads and cleaned their plates, Wei Shang smiled and said, ”All full? Let’s go. I’ll take you to the Mission Hall!”

Lin Yi and the others nodded, got up, and walked out of the cafeteria.

The Mission Hall, like the cafeteria, was also in Dormitory Zone 1.

Every dormitory zone had its own cafeteria and Mission Hall.

It was just that there were differences between them.

The higher the zone number, the bigger the difference in quality.

Walking into the Mission Hall, they were surrounded by rows of machines.

”These are the mission self-service kiosks. You can search for, accept, and turn in missions here.”

”Just scan your wristband on them!”

After explaining, Wei Shang scanned his own wristband on a kiosk.

The next moment, a list of missions appeared on the machine’s screen.

Lin Yi, Wei Nan, and the others took a closer look.

The lowest-ranked missions were 3-star, and the highest were 5-star.

This was a perk of being in Dormitory Zone 1.

The quality of missions was the best in the entire university.

Wei Shang smiled and tapped on a 3-star mission on the screen.

[3-Star Mission: Hunt one 1-star Demon Beast. Time limit: 7 days]

[Mission Reward: 100,000 cash, 1 bottle of First-Grade Compound Potion, 10 Credits]

[5-Star Mission: Hunt one 2-star Anomalous Beast. Time limit: 7 days]

[Mission Reward: 500,000 cash, 3 bottles of Second-Grade Compound Potion, 50 Credits]

”See? You can check for whatever kind of mission you want to take.

Once you’ve chosen, just tap ’Accept Mission’!”

”After you accept it, it’ll show up on your wristband!”

”The place you do the missions is Jail City!”

After Wei Shang finished his explanation, Lin Yi nodded gratefully. ”Thanks a lot!”

”For what? Aren’t we roommates?”

”We should help each other out. You guys didn’t know about this stuff, so I just gave you the rundown!”

”But I want to give a friendly warning: for your first mission, you’d better not pick a 4-star or 5-star one. You probably can’t handle it!”

”Besides, you’ve never been to Jail City and don’t know anything about it!”

”Rushing in recklessly will probably get you hurt. It’s not too late to accept a high-star mission after you’ve learned more about the missions and Jail City!”

”Alright, Feng Lei and I are heading to the Cultivation Field!”

”We probably won’t be back until after dinner tonight. We’re out!”

With a final smile, Wei Shang and Feng Lei left the Mission Hall.

When only Lin Yi, Wei Nan, Zhou Qi, and Sun Tao were left,

they looked at each other.

”What do we do? Should we accept one or not?”

Wei Nan said, looking at the kiosk in front of him, sounding uncertain.

Lin Yi followed Wei Shang’s example and operated the kiosk himself.

Looking at the various missions on the screen, he randomly tapped on a few to check them out.

”Let’s just do the enrollment mission first. The starting point is a bit high, but if we all go together, it shouldn’t be too difficult!”

As soon as he said that, Wei Nan, Zhou Qi, and Sun Tao all nodded.

”Alright, we’ll listen to you. Let’s take a mission to test the waters and get the enrollment mission done at the same time!”

Wei Nan didn’t hesitate.

Since Lin Yi had made a decision, he would just follow along.

Zhou Qi and Sun Tao also exchanged a look.

Right now, they could only stick together for warmth.

This was especially true for Zhou Qi and Sun Tao, given the two native New District students in their dorm.

They weren’t nearly as friendly as Feng Lei and Wei Shang.

Right now, the only person they could rely on was Lin Yi.

Otherwise, with their cultivation levels, it would be very difficult to complete a demon beast hunting mission in Jail City.

Because it wasn’t just one demon beast there.

It was a land of exile for demon beasts, anomalous beasts, and vicious criminals.

Once inside, it was bound to be fraught with danger.

For just one or two of them to complete a mission in Jail City was simply too difficult.

So, the two of them also found their own mission self-service kiosks.

And began to operate them just as Wei Shang had shown.
