The Entry-plundering Demon Hunter

Chapter 207: Chapter 207: Jail City, Land of Exile

Tang Qinru’s gentle voice came through the phone.

”How did it go? Did you finish your enrollment?”

”Sister, it’s all done!”

Lin Yi nodded with a smile.

”I’m glad it’s done. I originally wanted to accompany you personally today, but something came up at the medical office, so I had to leave early!” Tang Qinru’s tone was tinged with self-reproach.

Lin Yi smiled and said, ”Sister, it’s fine. Sister Zhao Xue was with us the whole time today!”

”It’s a good thing she was here; we would have wasted so much time otherwise. Xingwu University is just too big, you can’t see it all. I feel like we only saw the tip of the iceberg this whole morning!”

Hearing Lin Yi say this, Tang Qinru let out a soft chuckle.

”I’ll get you a car later. That way, you can just drive wherever you need to go on campus!”

”Oh, right, do you have a driver’s license? If not, you should go get one right away!”

”Having a car will make getting around the New District much more convenient from now on!”

”Yeah, okay. I’ll go get my license later!”

Lin Yi nodded with a light laugh.

He chatted with Tang Qinru for a few more moments before hanging up.

When he turned to look at Xiaoqi,

He found it had already eaten its fill and was sleeping soundly inside one of his shoes.

Seeing this, Lin Yi gently scooped Xiaoqi up.

Nowadays, as soon as it was full, it would immediately fall asleep.

Lin Yi was gradually realizing that sleeping was its method of cultivation.

Moreover, Xiaoqi would slowly digest the Demon Beast Meat it had just eaten while it slept.

It had only been a few days since Xiaoqi had broken through to 2-star.

Yet Lin Yi could already sense it was on the verge of breaking through to 3-star.

A cultivation speed like this could only be described as truly monstrous.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK—

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.

Lin Yi quickly put on his shoes and walked toward the door.

When he opened the door, Lin Yi had expected to see Wei Nan.

Instead, he found Wei Shang standing outside.

He said with a broad smile, ”Come on, let’s go eat!”

”Alright!”

Lin Yi returned a smile, appreciating Wei Shang’s initiative.

”Let me grab a jacket!”

”Sure. I’ll go get Feng Lei and Wei Nan. We’ll meet in the living room!”

Lin Yi nodded and closed the door.

He then grabbed his jacket from the bed and tucked the sleeping, digesting Xiaoqi into his pocket.

In this unfamiliar place, Lin Yi couldn’t possibly leave Xiaoqi alone in the dorm.

Not to mention, Xiaoqi had a tendency to attract the covetous attention of other demon beasts.

As mentioned before, it was like a walking piece of Tang Monk’s Flesh right now.

Countless demon beasts had their eyes on it.

Although the environment in the New District was much safer than the Old District, and there were no signs of demon beast activity within the city, it was better to be safe than sorry.

This was a rule Lin Yi had lived by ever since arriving in this world.

There was no harm in being cautious.

Besides, this was the New District. Even if there were no demon beasts, the human heart could be far more terrifying, especially the native students from the New District.

They had always been hostile and contemptuous toward the martial arts students from the Old District.

So, there was no harm in being careful.

When Lin Yi had put on his jacket and stepped out of his room,

Wei Nan and Feng Lei were already there.

”Now that everyone’s here, let’s go get some lunch. It’s a good chance to bond a little!”

Wei Shang said with a smile.

Lin Yi nodded, while Wei Nan said nothing.

The four of them left the dorm together.

As they passed the room belonging to Zhou Qi and Sun Tao,

Lin Yi quickly stopped and said, ”Wait, we have two other friends. Let’s ask if they want to get food!”

”Okay!”

Wei Shang nodded.

Lin Yi walked to the dorm room door and knocked.

Soon, it was opened from the inside.

”Who are you looking for?”

The person who opened the door was an unfamiliar young man. He sized Lin Yi up strangely.

”I’m looking for Zhou Qi and Sun Tao. Are they here?”

”Zhou Qi? Sun Tao? Oh, you mean those two from the Old District? Wait here, I’ll get them.”

SLAM—

The door was shut again.

He had clearly made no move to let them in.

Wei Nan walked closer. ”What an arrogant bastard. Who does he think he is?”

Then Wei Nan raised his foot to kick the door.

Wei Shang hurried over. ”I wouldn’t do that if I were you. If you kick that door, you risk getting expelled!”

”What do you mean? I’d get expelled just for kicking a door?” Wei Nan said in surprise.

Wei Shang nodded. ”It’s a school rule, and it’s been around for over a hundred years. It’s never been broken!”

”Besides, isn’t it written clearly in the Xingwu University code of conduct?”

”Any student of Xingwu University who, for any reason, damages school facilities or property shall be punished by expulsion and banished from the New District...”

”There’s really a rule like that?” Wei Nan pinched his chin, his brow furrowed.

Wei Shang smiled. ”You should read the code of conduct more carefully later!”

The foot he had raised mid-air was brought back down.

Wei Nan sighed. ”I can’t believe a university has so many rules.”

”There’s no other way. We’re all martial arts students, so the school does this to protect its facilities and property.

After all, if martial arts students really started fighting, the damage to the school would be incalculable!”

”Besides, in the New District, there’s the Town Martial Department. You’ve heard of it, right?”

”Whether on or off campus, if any Martial Artists are caught fighting, they’ll be the ones to handle it!”

”Minor offenders get arrested and thrown into the Town Martial Department’s solitary confinement for three to seven days!”

”Serious offenders, repeat offenders, and those who intentionally try to kill will be directly eliminated!”

”You’re all from the Old District, so it’s normal that you don’t know these rules.

When you get back, just take a closer look at the school regulations and you’ll understand!”

As he finished speaking, Lin Yi nodded.

Just then, the dorm room door opened.

Zhou Qi and Sun Tao walked out. ”Lin Yi, Wei Nan, were you looking for us?”

”Come on, we’re going to the cafeteria. Aren’t you guys hungry?” Lin Yi said with a smile.

However, Zhou Qi and Sun Tao didn’t seem very enthusiastic.

Still, they nodded and followed Lin Yi and the others downstairs.

”What’s wrong with you two? Did your other two roommates bully you?”

On the way to the cafeteria, Wei Nan noticed their spirits seemed off, so he couldn’t help but ask.

Zhou Qi shook his head, while Sun Tao let out a soft sigh.

”They didn’t bully us. It’s just the usual problem with New District students—they act all high and mighty. We can just ignore them!”

”What Zhou Qi and I are worried about are the missions...”

”Missions? What’s wrong with the missions?” Wei Nan was completely confused.

This wasn’t unique to Xingwu University.

The educational model for all universities in the New District was the same.

There were no so-called liberal arts or theory classes; the curriculum was primarily focused on practical combat.

For the most part, students had to accept missions on their own to earn academic credits.

Meeting the credit requirements for a course meant you passed.

If you didn’t earn enough credits, you were considered to have failed.

Failing to earn enough credits for three consecutive courses would also lead to expulsion.

However, you wouldn’t be sent back to the Old District; you could continue to live in the New District.

The difference was, without a university diploma, finding a high-paying job in the New District became incredibly difficult.

Many large corporations wouldn’t hire you.

And the top-tier companies certainly wouldn’t take you.

You could only find work doing odd jobs and manual labor.

Once you fell to that level, your life was pretty much set.

You wouldn’t starve to death, and your life wouldn’t be too miserable, but you would gradually lose hope for the future and become increasingly lost...

Therefore, academic credits were the foundation of university life.

Zhou Qi shook his head with a wry smile. ”It’s nothing, really. We just heard that the missions are all pretty tough. With a Cultivation Realm like mine and Sun Tao’s, if we went to Jail City, we’d just be delivering a meal to whatever’s in there...”

”Jail City?”

Lin Yi latched onto the key word and quickly asked about it.

But as it turned out, neither Zhou Qi nor Sun Tao could clearly explain what Jail City was.

Wei Shang, however, leaned in closer and said, ”Jail City... you can think of it as a land of exile!”

”All captured demon beasts and mutated beasts are exiled to Jail City!”

”But don’t be fooled by the ’City’ in its name. It’s not a city at all. It’s just a barren wasteland where nothing grows!”

”That place is constantly filled with blood, slaughter, and death. It’s practically hell on earth!”

”The school sets the missions in Jail City to train our practical combat experience!”

After Wei Shang finished his explanation,

Wei Nan quickly followed up, ”Wait, if all the missions are in Jail City, isn’t that just sending students to their deaths?”

Hearing this, Wei Shang shook his head with a smile. ”Of course not. Let me put it this way for you.”

”Jail City is divided into nine major sectors. The demon beasts, mutated beasts, and even the criminals in each sector are of different realms. In Sectors 1-3, their realms won’t exceed 3-star!”

”Sectors 4-6 are a bit higher level. That’s not something we can handle—not even Lin Yi.”

”As for Sectors 7-9, it seems there’s only a single beast inside. No one knows what kind of beast it is!”

”It’s also the final mission that every graduating class has to complete: go in and kill that beast!”

”You can go in as a team, or even a whole group, but very few have ever actually completed the mission!”

”But the school is pretty humane about this part. You don’t actually have to complete the mission; you just need proof that you’ve entered Sectors 7-9!”

Wei Shang finished with a smile.

They had arrived outside the cafeteria. He turned and looked back at Lin Yi’s group.

”Come on, let’s go eat. I’ll tell you more about Jail City while we’re eating!”

”Alright!”

Lin Yi and the others nodded, following Wei Shang and Feng Lei into the cafeteria.

When they stepped into the cafeteria,

They saw that only a few scattered tables in the large dining hall were occupied.

Most of the tables were completely empty.

Wei Shang said with a smile, ”Grab a tray and let’s get food over there. Take whatever you want; it’s all free!”

Lin Yi’s group nodded, and after each grabbing a tray,

They headed toward the food service window.
