The Entry-plundering Demon Hunter

Chapter 209: Chapter 209: The Great Town Martial Department Has to Protect a Student?

[Do you wish to accept the mission?]

Lin Yi checked it over again.

Then he tapped ’Confirm’ on the screen.

[Three-Star Mission successfully accepted.]

[Please hunt one One-Star demonic beast within 7 days.]

[Mission Rewards: 100,000 cash, 1 bottle of Grade-1 Composite Agent, 10 School Credits]

The moment Lin Yi accepted the mission,

he suddenly felt a vibration from his wristband.

He quickly lifted his hand to look.

On the wristband’s screen, a countdown timer had appeared.

As well as the yet-to-be-completed mission...

”Did you accept a mission?”

Wei Nan hurried over to ask.

Lin Yi nodded. ”Just accepted it. What about you guys?”

Zhou Qi and Sun Tao also walked over to him.

”Holy shit, you accepted a three-star mission? I thought you’d go straight for a five-star!”

When Wei Nan saw the mission’s star level displayed on Lin Yi’s wristband,

he seemed somewhat surprised.

And he wasn’t the only one who thought this way; Zhou Qi and Sun Tao felt the same.

They had all subconsciously assumed that Lin Yi would choose a five-star mission directly.

After all, with Lin Yi’s talent and his realm,

even a five-star mission would be more than manageable.

Who would have thought that Lin Yi would accept a three-star one?

Lin Yi glanced at them. ”We only know what Jail City is like from what Wei Shang and the others have told us. We don’t understand the environment there at all!”

”If I just jump into a five-star mission and can’t complete it before the time limit, wouldn’t I just be screwing myself over?”

”First, we’ll go test the waters and check out the situation there!”

”What’s the rush for a five-star mission? It’s not like they’re going to disappear!”

The current Lin Yi was growing more and more cautious.

If this had been back in the Old District, when he was just starting out with Demon Hunting,

he probably wouldn’t have considered the consequences and would have gone straight for a five-star mission.

But after experiencing so much in the Old District, Lin Yi’s mindset had gradually matured.

It was better to be careful with everything, especially here in the New District.

Although the attitudes displayed by Wei Shang and Feng Lei were much better than those of other local students from the New District,

Lin Yi didn’t completely trust them.

After all, they had known each other for less than a day. As the old saying goes, never harbor ill will, but always be on your guard.

Being a little more cautious never hurt.

Wei Nan, Zhou Qi, and the others all nodded in agreement.

The New District always seemed peaceful and calm.

There were no demonic beast invasions, and even at night, the city was brightly lit with people everywhere on the streets.

Danger seemed completely unrelated to this place.

In their eyes, however, the hearts of men were far more terrifying than demonic beasts.

Especially the local students, and their attitude towards Martial Arts candidates like them from the Old District.

They were filled with hostility.

The group walked out of the mission hall.

”What now? Should we go back to the dorms, or head straight to that Jail City?”

Wei Nan asked with a frown.

Zhou Qi and Sun Tao also looked toward Lin Yi.

To them, Lin Yi had become the backbone of their group.

They didn’t know when it started, but they had naturally grown accustomed to letting Lin Yi make the decisions.

”Let’s find Sister Xue first and ask her about the mission and Jail City.”

”Also, let’s ask Shen Mengyi if she wants to come with us!”

The others all nodded.

Lin Yi took out his phone and made a call.

...

「A few minutes later.」

In the garden outside the female dormitories’ Zone 1.

Lin Yi recounted everything Wei Shang had said about the missions and Jail City.

After listening, Qin Zhaoxue nodded and said, ”He’s right. Jail City is indeed a place we often go for missions, and it is divided into several zones!”

”I’m just a little curious. Even if you’re roommates, why would he tell you so much?”

”The local students have always been hostile toward students from the Old District!”

”They’d rather say nothing and let you go get yourselves beaten bloody.”

”This is really a bit strange!”

Qin Zhaoxue’s brows were tightly furrowed, finding Wei Shang’s behavior puzzling.

”Exactly. This is what I’ve been worried about. A local student taking the initiative to explain so much to us.”

”Sister Xue, do you think they have some ulterior motive? Or maybe...”

Lin Yi wasn’t paranoid.

It was just that after arriving at the university today and seeing so many local students showing hostility towards them,

it forced Lin Yi to be cautious.

Qin Zhaoxue shook her head. ”We usually choose Jail City for our missions. It’s mostly filled with demonic beasts, mutated beasts, and vicious criminals. That part is true!”

”As for harming you... I can’t think of how they could harm you. Or rather, what would be the point of harming you?”

At these words,

Lin Yi and Wei Nan exchanged glances.

”Senior Sister, I think you’re overthinking it. What if they were just being kind and wanted to tell us these things, without any other intentions?”

”And like you were saying... what’s the reason for the locals to be hostile towards us from the Old District? If you go back three generations, weren’t their ancestors from the Old District too?” Wei Nan said with a smile.

Qin Zhaoxue nodded. ”That’s true, but the fundamental reason why local students are hostile to students from the Old District is the division of cultivation resources!”

”Think about it. If there were no students from the Old District flooding into the New District,”

”wouldn’t all the cultivation resources in the New District be shared among the local students?”

”That way, they wouldn’t feel so much pressure in their cultivation!”

”But after students from the Old District came to the New District, even if the school’s cultivation resources are more skewed towards the locals, a portion will still be divided among the students from the Old District!”

”Every little bit given to the Old District students is a little bit less for the local students!”

”Besides, many of the Martial Arts candidates from the Old District have excellent talent. Although their realms are generally not high when they test into the New District—most just barely meeting the passing line at the One-Star Realm—”

”the cultivation resources in the Old District are scarce, one could even say nonexistent!”

”Local students are different. They’ve lived privileged lives since childhood. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say they were practically raised on various composite agents and supplements!”

”When they first enter the university, they can still rely on their higher realms to suppress the students from the Old District.”

”But by the second or third year, the students from the Old District will start to show their talent and catch up to those local students!”

”The truth is, for those who cultivate Martial Arts, how many are truly prodigies?”

”A truly talented cultivator is one in a hundred, or even one in a thousand!”

”As for monstrous talent like Lin Yi’s, you couldn’t find one in a million!”

”So, once the Old District students catch up, the locals’ initial advantage is stripped away, and the school’s resources will slowly start to shift towards the Old District students!”

”After all, the school cares more about students’ achievements and cultivation realms. When the Old District students catch up using their talent, it’s a form of suppression for the local students. How could they possibly feel good about the Old District students?”

After Qin Zhaoxue finished her explanation,

Lin Yi, Wei Nan, and the others finally understood.

”Hahaha... Senior Sister, can I interpret it this way: these local students were basically soaked in a medicine jar since they were kids, so their talent is all for show, useless in practice!”

”On the other hand, we Old District students got in through our own hard work and talent!”

”Anyone who can get into a Martial Arts University has pretty decent talent... So rather than saying they’re hostile, it’s more like they’re wary, or even afraid? Afraid we’ll steal their cultivation resources?”

After hearing Wei Nan’s explanation,

Qin Zhaoxue nodded with a light smile. ”You can pretty much understand it that way!”

”Actually, whether it’s the New District or the Old District,”

”there are both students with ordinary talent and those with exceptional talent. It’s not that being from the New District guarantees better talent, nor does being from the Old District mean your talent is worse!”

”Of course, the local students I was talking about are just the ordinary ones!”

”As for those from the Martial Arts Families, Ancient Martial Families, and newly risen smaller families, the disciples they produce are exceptionally talented!”

”Their talent is already good, and with the support of their family’s cultivation resources, the result is predictable!”

After Qin Zhaoxue finished explaining,

Lin Yi, Wei Nan, and the others nodded.

”We definitely can’t compare to those from Martial Arts Families and Ancient Martial Families. It’s good enough if we can beat the ordinary students!” Wei Nan said with a laugh.

Zhou Qi and Sun Tao also nodded with light smiles.

Finally, Lin Yi returned to his original question.

”Sister Xue, if that’s the case, does that mean we can go to this Jail City?”

”Of course you can. Even if you don’t go now, you’ll have to go eventually!”

”Since you chose Xingwu University, Demon Hunting is part of your coursework.”

”But for you, Demon Hunting isn’t anything new, is it?”

Qin Zhaoxue looked at Lin Yi with a light smile.

Lin Yi nodded. For him, Demon Hunting was indeed already second nature.

”Alright, I feel much more at ease now!”

”So, guys, should we check out Jail City tonight?”

Lin Yi looked back at Wei Nan, Zhou Qi, and the others.

Just as they were about to nod, Shen Mengyi came running over in a hurry.

”Count me in! I just accepted a mission too...”

Hearing this, everyone burst into laughter.

...

「Outside the campus. In a small alley.」

A bald man and a middle-aged man wearing glasses could be seen.

They wore matching combat uniforms with the words ’Town Martial’ printed on the chest.

And in front of them stood two students.

It was Wei Shang and Feng Lei.

”What’s the background of that student named Lin Yi? Why do Feng Lei and I have to personally go to the school to protect him? We’re from the dignified Town Martial Department, and we have to protect a student?” Wei Shang said, sounding a bit puzzled.

The bald man glanced at him. ”Just go if you’re told to. This is your mission!”

”Ensure Lin Yi’s safety. If anything goes wrong, Old He will come looking for you personally!”

Hearing this, Wei Shang’s heart suddenly trembled.

”Old He is back?”

”He’s been back for a while. When Lin Yi left the Old District, they returned to the New District with him.”

”Now, all of the Town Martial Department has been recalled!”

After the middle-aged man finished speaking,

Wei Shang and Feng Lei both nodded.

”Something big is about to happen. But having the two of us protect a little brat... isn’t that a bit of an overkill? And we even have to use this thing that restricts our realm?”

”Even if we didn’t use it, he wouldn’t be able to tell, right?”

Wei Shang shook the watch on his wrist.

This watch was a fusion of modern high-tech.

After putting it on, it could transmit big data to a backend system.

Through operations from the backend, it could then be adjusted to suppress the Source Qi in one’s body,

and regulate it to a desired realm.

The Three-Star Realm that Wei Shang and Feng Lei displayed

was achieved through this watch.

And such high technology was only available in the New District.

It was completely unheard of in the Old District...

”If you want Old He to have a ’talk’ with you, then go ahead and take it off!”

After the middle-aged man said this with a light smile,

he and the bald man turned and walked toward the other end of the alley.

Wei Shang: ”...”
