The Entry-plundering Demon Hunter

Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Trafficking Orphans for Exorbitant Profit

Several police cars stopped outside the orphanage gates.

Over a dozen Martial Arts police officers quickly cordoned off the area.

Tang Zhan got out of his car and yawned.

He then focused his gaze and looked into the courtyard.

”What’s the situation?”

”Captain Tang, there are signs of a fight at the scene. Three orphanage staff members are unconscious with serious injuries. Next to them are two bound children!”

”They’re around four or five years old, drugged into unconsciousness!”

An officer reported hurriedly.

Tang Zhan nodded and walked into the courtyard.

With the arrival of the Martial Arts Police Station, the orphanage staff and its director all ran out from the building.

But each and every one of them looked tense, trembling uncontrollably.

Tang Zhan first went to look at the scene. The three staff members were lying on the ground.

The fronts of their clothes were soaked crimson with blood.

He reached out and checked for breathing under their noses, discovering they were still alive.

Tang Zhan couldn’t help but chuckle. ”Looks like the other party didn’t intend to kill them. They were left barely alive!”

He then turned and said, ”Get them to the hospital first!”

”Yes, Captain Tang!”

A few officers quickly ran over and carried the three out.

Tang Zhan glanced at the two children again.

They were young, around four or five years old.

Their fair skin was a little chubby, and they looked plump and tender...

”Who’s in charge of this orphanage?”

Tang Zhan turned to look at the trembling staff members.

The next moment, a man in his fifties wearing a pair of silver-rimmed glasses stepped out from among them.

”I... I’m the one in charge here!”

”Your last name?”

”It’s Zhou. My name is Zhou Limin!”

”Dean Zhou, is it?” Tang Zhan gave him a cold look.

Dean Zhou nodded hurriedly. ”Yes...”

”Are you cold?” Tang Zhan asked strangely.

Hearing this, Zhou Limin quickly shook his head. ”N-no, I’m not cold!”

”Not cold? Then why are you—and them—trembling?” Tang Zhan chuckled.

As soon as he said it, Zhou Limin’s eyes filled with terror.

He quickly stammered, ”There... there was a demon! A Cat Demon! Just now, someone was in this courtyard fighting that Cat Demon for a long time. We... we all saw it...”

The other staff members all nodded in agreement.

Tang Zhan smiled. ”A Cat Demon? And a Demon Hunter, was it?”

”Even if that’s the case, what’s so strange about it? Even if you don’t practice Martial Arts, you should be used to life in the Old District by now, shouldn’t you?”

”Just like those three, you make deals with demons, selling off the children from the orphanage for profit?”

”Oh, right. I’m a little curious. How much do you get for selling a child?”

Tang Zhan glanced at them with a smile.

Immediately, Zhou Limin and the others shook their heads frantically.

”You’ve got it all wrong! I... we really didn’t know anything about this...”

”Right, we... we weren’t involved in selling children! Really, we weren’t...”

Dean Zhou and the other staff members all started trying to explain.

The smile never left Tang Zhan’s face as he nodded lightly. ”You weren’t involved? This probably isn’t the first time those three have worked with demons to sell children, is it?”

”And you never noticed anything unusual? You didn’t know children were missing?”

”Or is it that you weren’t directly involved in the transactions, but you knew what was going on?”

This series of questions left them all speechless.

Instantly, Tang Zhan’s expression darkened, and his tone turned icy.

”People like you are even more despicable than the demons.

”You trade children for money, earning a fortune from heinous acts. That money is stained with blood—the blood of those children! Does it not pain your hearts at all to spend it? Do you feel no guilt whatsoever?”

Tang Zhan’s voice gradually rose in volume.

Meanwhile, Zhou Limin and the others hung their heads, cowering.

Seeing that none of them were talking, Tang Zhan let out a long sigh.

He turned and waved at a few officers. ”Take them all away!”

”Yes, Captain Tang!”

After all the staff members had been loaded into the police cars,

Tang Zhan stood with his hands on his hips, looking up at the building.

His eyes were filled with anger and helplessness.

In the Old District, incidents like this were all too common.

And it wasn’t just about selling children, either.

Even worse, some utterly depraved individuals would capture people everywhere to sell them to demons.

Just like the recent kidnapping cases.

Tang Zhan believed those people were also likely making deals with demons.

They kidnapped Martial Artists and sold them to the demons.

All for exorbitant profits...

But he was just one captain from the Martial Arts Police Station. Even if he wanted to eradicate all evil from the world...

...how could he possibly accomplish such a thing on his own?

...

「Old Town District.」

The silent streets were completely deserted.

Not a single car was on the road.

Only a single electric scooter traveled along it.

Lin Yi, wearing a clown mask, rode all the way to the supermarket.

After parking the scooter, he followed the usual procedure and entered the supermarket’s back courtyard.

Every time Lin Yi came here, he always felt a strange sense of oppression.

The courtyard was full of people, several dozen at least.

But no one spoke; hardly a sound was made.

Lin Yi first turned in his mission and collected the reward.

He then went to the mission room and accepted a new one.

After going through the entire process,

he glanced around again.

As it turned out, he didn’t see any sign of Lei Hu.

This left him a little disappointed.

Ever since seeing Lei Hu last time, he’d had his mind set on that Golden Light Fist technique.

But he had been busy hunting the Cat Demon for the past few days, with too much on his plate to come over.

He turned in a mission today but didn’t see Lei Hu.

’Is that guy deliberately avoiding me? Or is my luck just that bad today?’

’After all, it’s not like they hang around here every single day.’

’Robbing other peers of their valuables is an inherently risky business.’

’After all, anyone who comes here to take on Demon Hunting missions is a practitioner of Martial Arts.’

’Their cultivation levels vary. If you’re lucky, you might run into someone with a low cultivation and make a good score.’

’If your luck is terrible, you just have to chalk it up to bad luck.’

After accepting the new mission, Lin Yi didn’t linger, just like before.

He headed straight for the back door.

But just as he reached the alleyway,

flickering shadows of people moved about outside.

Lin Yi’s brows furrowed slightly, a cold glint flashing in his eyes as he became more cautious.

And just as he reached the mouth of the alley,

he executed a Body Technique, instantly darting outside.

He turned and threw a punch at the people behind him.

Just as the fist was about to land on their faces,

a familiar voice said, ”Don’t hit me! It’s—it’s me! Golden Light Fist...”
