New Ability Every Ten Days: Becoming a Vampire Made Me Too OP

Yu Xian did not disturb Nora and her mother’s reunion. After watching the two of them from a distance for a short while, he teleported back to his villa.

He felt that Super Smell still had massive untapped potential, especially when linked with Super Gustation. Faintly, he sensed that their synergy could unlock even deeper layers of information.

Snakes used their tongues to collect scent particles from the air. Super Gustation could do the same. It was just that in the past, even if Yu Xian collected those scent particles, he had no way to distinguish the information they contained. But after obtaining Super Smell, he realized the two abilities complemented each other.

Yu Xian went to his garden. This time, he allowed the spatial bubble to contain only the scents inside the villa.

Silver Blood strengthened his brain, while Super Smell and Super Gustation activated at the same time. With his eyes closed, he felt as though he had become a higher-dimensional being.

The past unfolded in his mind like an onion, peeling open layer by layer. It was as if a playback bar had appeared in his head. He could adjust it at will, allowing himself to ”rewind” and watch everything that had once happened here.

The buyers who came to view the villa. The workers who built it. Hundreds of years ago, this place was a slum, with dozens of families living in chaotic rows of wooden houses...

The farther back he looked, the more information was missing, and the more blurred people’s faces and voices became.

After quite some time, Yu Xian opened his eyes. It felt as if he had crossed several hundred years before returning to this exact moment. He let out a long breath and could not help grumbling. ”The Perfect Lifeform actually used this ability for hunting. What a damn waste of a gift.”

When Super Brain, Super Smell, and Super Gustation were combined, the effect was absurdly powerful.

Yu Xian returned indoors. Who had made every piece of furniture in his home, which worker had carried each item inside, and even whether that person had smoked before moving it—he knew everything with perfect clarity.

Even he knew it was not scientific at all. After all, he had only caught the scent on the furniture, yet his brain had automatically connected it to a furniture factory on the outskirts of Silver City. It was almost like quantum entanglement. Once he understood one end, he automatically understood the other.[1]

Unscientific as it was, Yu Xian had to admit that it was very much superpower-esque. He inspected everything in the house. In the end, after tracing many of the items back to their sources, he realized a lot of them were completely unusable now.

”The bed has to go. These three pairs of underwear are trash. Holy crap! What kind of disgusting bastard drops a bowl in dog shit, washes it off, and sells it anyway?”

The bed he usually slept on had clearly been bought new, but in reality, it was refurbished secondhand goods. Its previous owner had even been a notorious playboy. Sometimes, the more one knew, the less happy one became. At this point, everything Yu Xian looked at felt just a little bit gross.

As night descended, he was still moving back and forth through the house, systematically swapping out various belongings. A police car stopped in front of the villa. Yu Xian instantly teleported into a bubble outside the gates.

Zhang Kai smiled from inside the car. ”Hop in. I have the day off. Let’s grab a meal together. My treat.”

The moment Yu Xian heard he could freeload a meal, he immediately shrank the range of his bubble and floated into the car with a cheerful grin. ”Tsk, the miser is finally spending money? Let’s go, let’s go!”

Zhang Kai glanced at Yu Xian inside the bubble and got curious. ”Are you training your ability?”

Yu Xian sighed. ”No. The exact opposite, actually. Something’s gone a little wrong with my ability, so I can only stay like this for now.”

Zhang Kai frowned. ”Is it serious? Do you need me to find an ability correction therapist?”

Yu Xian shook his head. ”No need. It’ll be fine after a few days.”

Ability correction therapists were basically psychologists for supernatural beings. Sometimes, things could go wrong while one was training, resulting in them losing control or suffering backlash, which could leave psychological scars. An ability correction therapist could guide them through such a situation and help correct the problems with their abilities.

Zhang Kai pulled up outside a small tavern. The two of them got out and headed inside, where Zhang Kai immediately ordered their food with practiced ease. He was clearly a regular.

Zhang Kai laughed. ”I like three dishes in this place. Their lamb chops are fresh and seriously satisfying. Their chewy beef tendon stew and braised pork belly are pretty good too.”

Yu Xian smiled. ”Don’t start hyping it up yet. I have Super Gustation. Whether it’s good or not is for me to decide.”

Zhang Kai was smug. ”Heh. I brought you here precisely because I know you have Super Gustation. Do you know who their chef is?”

Yu Xian said nothing and waited for Zhang Kai to continue.

Zhang Kai declared, deadpan, ”The chef here supposedly inherited the legacy of the Food God. One of his abilities is the Food God’s Tongue, which lets him distinguish even the tiniest changes in flavor between ingredients.”

Yu Xian grumbled. ”There are at least eight hundred thousand people across the country claiming they inherited the Food God’s legacy, if not a million. Come on.”

Zhang Kai smiled. ”This place is different. Anyway, I think it’s pretty legit.”

Just then, two servers brought over the lamb chops. Zhang Kai immediately urged Yu Xian to dig in. Once Yu Xian took a bite and nodded to show that it was good, the two of them started eating with great enthusiasm.

When the braised pork belly and two vegetable dishes were served, Zhang Kai said to the server, ”Excuse me, could you bring me a bottle of green plum wine? Oh, right, you’re not eighteen yet. Bring a can of juice too.”

Yu Xian picked up a slice of lotus root. Just as he was about to open his mouth and eat it, he froze. He sniffed the lotus root and said, ”Brother Zhang, after we’re done eating, ask the server where they bought these lotus roots from.”

Noticing that Yu Xian’s expression was off, Zhang Kai whispered, ”What is it?”

Yu Xian placed the lotus root slice on the table and said in a low voice, ”Other people probably can’t smell it, but I have Super Smell. There’s a corpse-miasma-like stench on these lotus root slices.”

Zhang Kai immediately stood up. ”Then what are we waiting for? I’ll go ask right now.”

Yu Xian quickly said, ”Keep it low-key. Don’t ruin their business.”

Zhang Kai nodded. ”Don’t worry. I know what to do.”

Yu Xian put down his chopsticks. He had already lost his appetite. After waiting for a while, he allowed a small amount of the surrounding scent into his bubble and took a sniff. The lotus roots in the kitchen carried an even stronger corpse miasma stench than the slices on the table.

Of course, ”stronger” only meant stronger than the sliced lotus roots. In reality, the corpse miasma was extremely, extremely faint. Even if an ordinary human ate it, it would not be enough to turn them into a zombie.

The human body had its own detoxification functions. As long as a person had enough yang energy and got some sunlight during the day, such a tiny trace of corpse miasma would not cause any harm at all.

But if there was corpse miasma, there had to be a source somewhere. That source was what Yu Xian wanted to find.

A moment later, Zhang Kai came back with his hands in his pockets. He sat down. ”They get their stock from Green Lotus Pond in the south of the city. Want to go take a look?”

Yu Xian nodded. ”Let’s go. I want to check it out. I’m worried there might be zombies under the pond.”

Zhang Kai had known Yu Xian for some time now. Yu Xian was not the type to make empty claims. It was very likely that there really were zombies over at Green Lotus Pond. His heart tightened. No longer caring about the meal, he immediately went to pay the bill.

After leaving the tavern, the two got into the car, and Zhang Kai drove toward the south of the city. This time, he was speeding. Yu Xian could sense that he was a little nervous.

Still staring straight ahead, Zhang Kai said, ”A few days ago, during my night patrol, I caught a bunch of little brats catching loaches over there. It was the middle of the night, so I chased them all home. But yesterday, Ah Bing told me those same little brats were back at it again.”

Zhang Kai was worried about those children. If there really were zombies in the pond, as long as the children did not run into them, it was fine. But if they did and ended up provoking the zombies, they would undoubtedly die.

1. Quantum entanglement is a physics idea where two tiny particles become linked in a special way, so the state of one particle is connected to the state of the other, even if they are far apart. ☜
