Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 1308: Time to Strike

Arakuro Clan, Taketsu City

Within the clan’s palace, an important meeting was being held.

Just a few moments ago, the upper echelons of the clan had learned that Mashiro’s group, which had been dispatched to take care of the murderer, had perished.

Fifteen Mana Vortex Magi were sent. Fourteen of them had died, as confirmed by their Soulmark Lanterns. There was only one survivor, but the clan did not know about this man’s current status.

”This is war!”

”This heinous demon has already killed twenty-three of our Elders!”

”Whoever this is, they are going to pay for it!”

”Patriarch, give us the order!”

”We’ll follow this man to the end of this world if we have to!”

”Yes, Patriarch! Thanks to the Soulmark Lanterns, we already know he’s headed west!”

”Please, give us the order!”

On the far end of the chamber, a short flight of grand stairs led to a raised pedastal with a large chair upon it. Seated on this throne-like golden chair, a towering figure with a burly build glanced at the Magi present with cold, emotionless eyes.

The Patriarch’s gaze was enough to quiet the elders. Then, he turned to the elderly woman standing by his side.

”Lady Chiyo,” he said in a calm, respectful tone. ”Do you have anything to say?”

The Head Diviner of the Arakuro Clan, the only other Mana Core Magus within the family, nodded ever so slightly.

”Yes, Patriarch,” she began.

”Masahiro, that child... he had come to me in the recent past to divine the whereabouts of Tensei’s murderer. At the time, my divination proved futile. But I did read the notebook Masahiro was carrying.”

She paused for a long moment. No one dared to interrupt her, not even the Patriarch himself.

Lady Chiyo continued, ”The notebook spoke of the appearance of Tensei’s murderer. This man... he wore a kitsune mask and wielded twin short blades.”

The elderly woman paused again. Then, she added, ”Earlier today, I glimpsed into the heavenly secrets once again. I was able to confirm... that the man who killed Masahiro and the rest of our children...”

She paused one more time. Her following words rang like thunder in everyone’s ears:

”He, too, wore a kitsune mask!”

The room erupted in clamor. The Elders who had gathered were seething with rage. This was the first time in the history of the clan that someone had so brazenly dared to challenge their authority and smear their name.

Not only did this masked man kill a direct bloodline of the Patriarch, but he had also killed twenty-two other Mana Vortex Magi of the clan.

The Arakuro Clan had never been humiliated like this!

Needless to say, they were utterly enraged. And if need be, they were willing to wage war all on their own to take down this man.

”Silence,” the Patriarch coldly muttered.

Though the elders had quietened down, their faces were twisted in rage and thier eyes were spewing venom.

The Patriarch observed everyone, then finally asked, ”What is the current location of this murderer?”

One of the elders came forward and solemnly said, ”According to our estimations, this person is deep inside the territories of the Unorthodox Faction. If I had to assume, then he is most likely in the region lorded over by the Qinglin Zhai.”

The Patriarch’s eyes narrowed.

Qinglin Zhai was one of the six major organizations that made up the Unorthodox Faction. They were a bunch of nomadic bandits that had united under a charismatic warlord at the Mana Core Rank. They were the lords of Yen-Lu’s wild frontier.

The Patriarch thought for a brief moment before finally giving out his order:

”Inform the Grand Elder to declare our stance at the vicennial gathering in Yuanshi. We are going to follow this murderer into the heart of the lands under the Unorthodox Faction.”

He paused for a moment, then coldly added:

”If this means war... then so be it.”

***

Arcane Alliance Headquarters, Yuanshi.

Hidden deep within the grand building lay a secret throne room. On a raised platform occupying one end of this vast chamber, a lone figure sat languidly upon the ornate throne.

The hidden ruler of Yen-Lu wore loose silk robes that left much of his upper body exposed. In one hand, he held a long, wooden pipe. On the other hand, he held on to a jade scroll.

This was the official document that the Grand Elder of the Arakuro Clan would later read today at the conference with the other delegations of the Nine Great Sects and Clans.

In a laidback manner, he smoked from the wooden pipe as he read the document signed and sealed by the Patriarch of the Arakuro Clan.

After he’d finished reading the document, he couldn’t help but chuckle lightly.

”Interesting,” he murmured.

The hidden ruler had earlier planned to ’convince’ the leaders of the Nine Great Sects and Clans and the six major organizations of the Unorthodox Faction into starting the Fourth Great War, but as it turned out, he didn’t even have to lift a finger.

From the flow of things, war was just around the corner. It wouldn’t be long before the entirety of Yen-Lu would be embroiled in the flames of war once again.

The war would last for several years, decades even. And when it was over, Yen-Lu would be severely weakened from within. Thus making it the perfect opportunity for outside forces to attack.

Then, once again, the lands would go through war. And the cycle would continue until there was nothing left but ash and cinders.

The hidden ruler heaved a long sigh and slowly rose to his feet.

”It’s time I make my move as well.”

His bare feet descended the grand flight of stairs as he made his way to the open balcony on the other side of the chamber. With a carefree look on his face, he tied his long, flowing dark hair.

The hidden ruler gently placed his hands on the marble railings in the balcony, his gaze scanning the grand and beautiful metropolis known as Yuanshi.

Then, he turned west. His gaze seemingly crossed countless miles before settling on the neighboring continent of Europa.

His lips curled into a faint smile, his tone dripping with utter contempt as he said:

”It is time to strike where it’ll hurt you the most, wretched lich.”

With that said, the strongest Magus of the East took to the air and flew straight towards the heart of Europa!
