Prodigal System in the Flourishing City

Chapter 1284: Chapter 1285: A Grand Game of Strategy

”This girl!” Mrs. Wang exclaimed in exasperation as she watched Wang Ling run off.

Now, only Lu Xiaobu and the three Wang family elders remained.

”Let’s not beat around the bush,” Mr. Wang said, breaking the silence. ”The Wang family rules aren’t fake. They’re very real. All Wang family sons must serve in the military, and daughters must marry a serviceman! Or they can serve themselves!”

Lu Xiaobu nodded. He had already learned about this rule, and it was indeed true, there was no doubt about it.

That’s why Lu Xiaobu was interested in the condition Mr. Wang had on his mind. After all, what condition could make Mr. Wang break the family rule?

”However, after some thought, I realized that you joining the military might be better than your second brother joining,” Mr. Wang proposed. ”If you join, your second brother can continue with Ling’er!”

”I join the military?” Lu Xiaobu furrowed his brows.

This condition seemed so strange?!

His brother was getting married, not him, so why would he need to join the military?!

”You don’t think we haven’t been paying attention to you, do you?” Mr. Wang continued.

This ”we” wasn’t just referring to the Wang family, but the military, the upper echelons!

”Of course not,” Lu Xiaobu shook his head.

He had created so many inventions. Before, it was all business-related and not very noticeable.

But ever since he returned from those trips to Japan and all the things he stirred up in the Jianghu, it would be crazy not to notice him.

Remember?

When he returned from Japan, a big shot sought him out, and he even formed a connection with him!

”Exactly, that mysterious research institute of yours, your rapid progress in power and influence, your unparalleled intelligence and strategies, we’ve been keeping an eye on all of it. But you’ve done well, put our minds at ease, so we’ve never forced you into anything,” Mr. Wang nodded. ”In fact, we’ve even helped you on numerous occasions.”

”I understand,” Lu Xiaobu nodded.

He knew this mysterious research institute referred to the numerous formulas and inventions he had brought forth.

The outside world always speculated that Lu Xiaobu’s mysterious lab was behind it.

Mr. Wang and the others probably speculated the same.

”Even though we didn’t force you, we are quite envious,”

Mr. Wang laughed heartily without any pretense, ”This is just your unlucky day; your second brother had to fall for our little wild child from the Wang family.”

”So, I won’t be polite either. Either we follow our family rules, or you join the military!”

”But of course, not as a regular soldier, that would be pointless. You’ll join a special unit!”

Mr. Wang was absolutely pleased.

He had been pondering over this matter for a long time, wondering how he could get Lu Xiaobu into the military.

After all, they were genuinely envious.

Who would’ve thought that by some stroke of fate, the second son of the Lu family would end up with their family’s wild child.

You don’t know, but when Mr. Wang heard the news, he was so happy he couldn’t sleep all night!

He immediately ordered that no one was to interfere with their relationship.

Otherwise, according to the Wang family’s teachings, could the relationship between Lu Wenhuo and Wang Ling have heated up so fast?!

Alright, with all of this said, even a fool would understand!

This was Mr. Wang’s clever scheme to kill two birds with one stone!

He facilitated the good match between Wang Ling and the second son of the Lu family and steered Lu Xiaobu along his desired path.

”Oh well...” Lu Xiaobu chuckled wryly.

Who would’ve known it’d turn out like this!

Besides that one time someone came to see him, nobody else approached him later, and that definitely had something to do with Mr. Wang!

After all, everyone knew Lu Xiaobu’s character.

Would Lu Xiaobu let his second brother be a bachelor just for his own sake?

Who would believe that if it’s said out loud!

”But Mr. Wang, given my personality, do you really think the military suits me?” Lu Xiaobu asked helplessly. ”People even call me the Plague God.”

”Fits! Fits perfectly! Didn’t I say? Special unit, not a special forces unit! It’s different! The special unit is composed of top talents from various fields! Not meant for combat use!” Mr. Wang explained simply.

Just enough detail to suffice; more would breach confidentiality agreements, so he couldn’t say much!

”What about freedom?” Lu Xiaobu asked again.

”You’ll continue to have your freedom! But there’s one condition: no matter what new things your research institute comes up with, it must be reported to and reviewed by the military! If there aren’t any issues, you can proceed with production and sales!” Mr. Wang outlined his conditions, ”Plus, you’ll need to teach classes.”

”Teach classes? Teach what?” Lu Xiaobu’s mouth twitched.

”Whatever you want, teach whatever you fancy. Even how to pick up girls is fine!” Mr. Wang said nonchalantly.

”So you want to tie me down,” Lu Xiaobu realized.

His loyalty and friendships were well-known to everyone. Eventually, spending enough time with the soldiers would forge mentorship bonds, which would tie him down!

”Exactly, to tie you down,” Mr. Wang admitted openly. ”Those are the terms; do as you will! Again, I won’t force you, but if you’re unwilling, then Lu Wenhuo will serve in the military for three years, which will fly by!”

”Cunning old fox!” Lu Xiaobu muttered quietly.

He suddenly understood that he didn’t actually have a choice in this matter!

Lu Wenhuo serving three years in the military? Mr. Wang could use those years to let Lu Wenhuo build a wealth of camaraderie!

In the end, even by taking a roundabout way, Lu Xiaobu would still be tied down!

After all, if Lu Wenhuo asked for help, how could he refuse?

Mr. Wang heard his muttering and chuckled indifferently, ”Cunning old fox, then cunning old fox. Do what you see fit!”

”Alright! Alright! I agree, okay!” Lu Xiaobu sighed.

Truth be told, he didn’t have much resistance to the idea, only worried about being restricted. You know how he hated rules and such.

But now Mr. Wang had assured him that his freedom wouldn’t be limited, so it seemed there was no reason to refuse.

He’d just have an additional identity.

”Good! Refreshing!” Mr. Wang laughed heartily.

It finally succeeded, a major weight was lifted.

To be honest, getting Lu Xiaobu to join wasn’t difficult; the hard part was getting him to do so willingly.

After all, Lu Xiaobu is a temperamental person; you can only deal with him gently. Doing otherwise would surely backfire.

So, he had set up this grand scheme, unintentional, non-coercive, letting things flow naturally, leading to this perfect result!

Fantastic!

Those old guys will have to buy me drinks, hahahaha!
