Prodigal System in the Flourishing City

Chapter 593: Chapter 591 I Am an Actor [First Update]

Chen Feiyang took the script, and the expressions on his face became richer and richer, more exaggerated, incredible, shocked, and surprised—these emotions kept emerging on his face!

Finally.

”Bam!”

He actually stood up excitedly.

Yes, he stood up straight in the car!

As expected, his head collided hard with the car roof!

”Hisss!”

Lu Xiaobu watched and even he felt a headache from the impact!

However, Chen Feiyang seemed not to feel it at all, merely being pushed back down into his seat and absentmindedly rubbed his head.

Then he looked at Lu Xiaobu with a burning gaze: ”Young Master Bu, please allow me to direct!!!”

”Pretty good?”

Lu Xiaobu smiled.

”It’s more than good, it’s unparalleled in the world! This is the real anti-Japanese drama! This is truly achieving both historical significance and entertainment value! This is the pinnacle masterpiece of anti-Japanese dramas! Unrivaled!”

Chen Feiyang incessantly praised the script with all kinds of good words, even declaring decisively, ”Once this play is released, it will completely eclipse all current market anti-Japanese dramas!”

”That’s fine, if you think it’s okay, that’s enough for me.”

Lu Xiaobu nodded and said.

”Young Master, please let me direct!!!” Chen Feiyang once again expressed his intense desire, the last time he was this eager was when he first laid eyes on the script of ”A Chinese Odyssey”!

He originally thought that having such an experience once in his lifetime would be enough, and that he would never feel such excitement again!

But as it turns out, Emperor Electric is still Emperor Electric, and the Young Master is still the Young Master!

The second shock came so quickly, and it was from Young Master Bu’s hands!

”Alright, you can be the assistant director.”

Lu Xiaobu gestured dismissively: ”This time, I will do it myself.”

”What!” Chen Feiyang’s expression instantly sagged upon hearing this.

His expression contained a mix of disappointment, fear, disbelief, and more.

He was disappointed because he would not be the lead director.

He feared that Lu Xiaobu might ruin the drama!

He believed in Lu Xiaobu’s creative ability, and also in Lu Xiaobu’s extensive financial and material resources. But directing is a highly specialized profession, after all!

And Young Master Bu, even though he was from the directing department of Emperor Electric University, had never seriously attended even a single professional directing class!

Not to mention, Young Master Bu’s notorious laziness was world-renowned!

You say you’re going to direct?!

He really found it hard to believe!

After all, if the drama were ruined due to the director, he would genuinely cry himself to death!

”What? Don’t believe me?”

Lu Xiaobu asked, tilting his eye.

”No, no.”

Chen Feiyang hurriedly waved his hand, but what he said with his mouth and what his eyes conveyed were two completely different attitudes!

”Go on, off with you!”

Lu Xiaobu knew all too well what Chen Feiyang’s look meant.

But, he couldn’t be bothered to explain!

After all, whether he explained it or didn’t, in the end, he had the final say!

...

Meanwhile, inside a house not far from them, a fierce family war was erupting!

”Dad! You have to give me an explanation today!”

A woman in her thirties with glasses on had a face filled with anger.

And the man sitting opposite her was their current target and also this woman’s biological father—Shan Tianxiang!

”What explanation? There’s nothing to explain.”

Shan Tianxiang sat there, smoking a cigarette, and you could see the undisguised sorrow etched on that weather-beaten face amid the swirling smoke.

”Nothing to explain?” The woman became even more agitated upon hearing this: ”Back then, as an actor, you reported that film company’s TV drama, and then you got blacklisted by everyone in the industry! You started all this, didn’t you?”

Hearing his daughter’s words, Shan Tianxiang’s frown deepened, but he didn’t argue; instead, he just silently nodded.

”Let’s talk about that, don’t give me any grand principles, any talk of benevolence, righteousness, and morality, I’ve heard enough of that over the years! I want to ask you, how did we survive those years after you were blacklisted? Don’t you know?!”

As the woman spoke, she began wiping her tears on the side.

”Ah!”

Shan Tianxiang let out a heavy sigh, and a surge of pity welled up in his heart as he looked at his daughter.

Yes, those years were indeed hard on them!

”Let bygones be bygones, let’s not bring up the past!” The woman said firmly as she wiped away her tears: ”Let’s talk about now, your grandson needs to go to school soon, and we need a sum of money.”

”I’ve discussed it with you, and you agreed to come out of retirement to make some money, we agreed on this, didn’t we?”

”And so, I went begging high and low, finally convinced a film company to let you act, isn’t that a job?!”

”That’s the job you love the most! And it could also provide an opportunity for you to be unblacklisted!”

”But what about you! You flatly refused! Do you want us, mother and daughter, to live or not? That’s your own grandson!”

As she brought this up, the woman was both angry and aggrieved, tears streaming down once again!

She really didn’t understand why her father acted the way he did.

”I...”

Shan Tianxiang stretched out his hand, wanting to pat his daughter, but he stopped halfway and lowered it again, continuing to smoke in silence without a word.

At first, he thought the opportunity was a good one.

He could make some money and also use the opportunity to get unblacklisted.

But that script provided by the company was just junk!

A downright terrible script!

He could see right through it: the script was designed to leverage his name, promoting the return of their generation of old actors to make a quick buck!

As for the script itself, it was even worse than a story written by a primary school student!

”Dad, I’m begging you, please? Dad!”

The woman looked at Shan Tianxiang with tearful eyes: ”Do it for me, for your grandson, please agree, will you?”

”I...” Shan Tianxiang’s heart ached as he looked at his daughter.

But in the end, he still bit his teeth and said: ”Daughter, I’ll find a way about the money, let’s drop this subject! Let’s not talk about it!”

”Why!”

The woman exploded!

She never imagined her father could be so cold and heartless!

After everything was said and done, he remained unyielding, like a statue!

His way of finding solutions? What solutions?!

Borrow money?!

All the relatives and friends that could lend money had been approached countless times in those years!

If you don’t act, who would dare lend you money?!

”I am an actor!” Shan Tianxiang emphatically spoke these words: ”I have a responsibility to the audience!”

”So you’re not responsible for us?!” the woman shouted!

She truly couldn’t understand her father’s actions!

What era was this?!

This was an era where being poor was scorned, not prostitution!

One by one, talentless hacks, even those who merely clip pictures, whose TV dramas deny even the measliest special effects budget, can keep on cashing in on so-called nostalgia in waves after waves!

Yet, her father was still upholding such values!

Even at the cost of their very survival!

At that moment, the conflict had reached its sharpest point!
