Prodigal System in the Flourishing City

Chapter 426: Chapter 424 Difficult? [2nd Update]

Since the topic was set.

Liu Chen no longer held back, turned around, took out the four treasures of the study from beside him, and placed them on a small stone table next to him.

Picked up the brush, dipped it in ink, and completed it with a flourish.

The members of the Literature Club all exclaimed in admiration.

”It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the teacher writes!”

”Yes, the teacher’s handwriting is still so bold and powerful, full of pride!”

”Today is really a blessing.”

”...”

Put down the brush.

The first line of the couplet was presented.

The tides of the sea keep ebbing and flowing.

The students around furrowed their brows.

What kind of first line is this?

What does it even mean?

It’s just not apparent at all!

Even the top female student and Yu Jian stared at the second line, pondering, and tried reading it several times but couldn’t figure it out.

If you can’t even read it correctly, how can you match it?

Honestly, if it weren’t for the fact that their teacher wrote this couplet, they probably would have asked if this was a couplet or a tongue twister?

So many ”tides”!

But still, there’s that saying, if the teacher wrote it, then there must be no mistake.

Thus.

”Lu Xiaobu, our teacher has already written the first line, now write the second line! Aren’t you very capable?” Yu Jian, this little brat, immediately jumped out.

As a result.

He dared to jump out, only to be slapped back down.

”Talking nonsense! How can matching a couplet be so quick? Stop causing trouble! You shut up!”

Liu Chen scolded, directly pushing Yu Jian back with a slap.

This made Yu Jian really angry.

He felt indignant, as he was just trying to support his teacher, yet he was being stopped.

The members of the Literature Club whispered to him.

”Vice President, what are you thinking? The teacher has just presented the first line, and you are being too aggressive, showing the teacher as narrow-minded, and besides, if Lu Xiaobu really matched it so quickly, whose face would it slap?”

”Yes, Vice President, you’re too impatient.”

”That shouldn’t be the way.”

”...”

Listening to the students of the Literature Club advising him, Yu Jian probably understood.

But he was too embarrassed to admit his mistake, so he stayed quiet on the side, eyes fixed on the first line written by Liu Chen.

He wanted to match the second line sooner than Lu Xiaobu.

Of course, the first step now is to read it through.

The top female student, also fixated on the first line, her lips moving rapidly and continuously.

She was trying, trying to read it out, trying to match it, trying to crack the secret within.

Wu Qianmin, as a member of the Literature Club, naturally found this kind of couplet interesting, but her level was too low, she was straight-up confused.

And most notably, there were Zhang Meng and Li Jin.

These brothers actually showed interest in this couple.

Of course, the nonsense part was predominant.

”It wouldn’t be, the wind blows and blows and blows and blows and blows and blows and blows, would it?”

Li Jin was a bit more brazen than Zhang Meng, looked at the couplet, thought for a moment, and then suggested something.

Well, blowing that much, it must be a tornado.

”I rather Rui Zi walks and walks and walks and walks and walks and walks and walks on you.”

Zhang Meng rolled his eyes, speechlessly said.

”Look at you, officer, you even play games.”

Li Jin immediately pushed his advantage.

Even Liu Chen couldn’t help but look a bit smug: ”Mr. Lu, if this question is too difficult, I can change it. It was just for fun in the first place.”

Yes, from start to finish, he never thought this first line of the couplet could be matched.

After all, even he himself did not have a suitable second line.

”Change? No need, let’s stick with this one.”

Lu Xiaobu waved his hand: ”You know what, Qianmin, I say you write it.”

His sloppy character writing, it’s better not to embarrass oneself by showing it.

”Still.”

Wu Qianmin nodded.

”Endless clouds continuously disappear.”

Lu Xiaobu said calmly.

Seeing this lower couplet, everyone at the scene fell into silence.

Well, it’s not shock, it’s confusion.

Because this lower couplet, on the surface, seems to follow the same pattern as the upper couplet—they are both incomprehensible.

However, although both are incomprehensible,

the attitudes towards them are completely opposite.

When Liu Chen just wrote his, although everyone didn’t understand it, they never doubted.

Yet now that Lu Xiaobu has written it, everyone’s faces are filled with doubt.

”What is this?”

”Is Lu Xiaobu considering simply typing a few characters as a lower couplet?”

”Exactly, if that’s the case, even I could do it, the upper couplet cannot be that simple.”

”This is blindly matching, endlessly long? What is this even about!”

”...”

The other people were still whispering softly, but Yu Jian had no such reservations.

”It’s complete nonsense! It only matches formally in characters, but the profound meaning and artistic conception of the teacher’s upper couplet can’t possibly match this disorderly lower couplet.”

Yu Jian’s words made the surrounding people nod in agreement.

Even the top female student couldn’t help but nod silently.

It was mainly because there wasn’t enough time!

Although Lu Xiaobu’s literary foundation is definitely stronger than hers, she isn’t weak either.

She hasn’t even fully grasped the meaning of the upper couplet yet, and Lu Xiaobu’s lower couplet is already out. Who would believe it’s not made up?

Wu Qianmin was puffing her cheeks, looking at Yu Jian irritably: ”You’re the one making things up, what else can you do besides spouting nonsense?”

”You!”

Yu Jian was rendered speechless by Wu Qianmin.

It’s not that he couldn’t respond,

but his ultimate goal was Wu Qianmin, and now with her retorting him, how could he counter?!

But amid the voices of retort,

Liu Chen’s eyes were filled with solemnity: ”Mr. Lu, how should your lower couplet be read?”

Just now, Lu Xiaobu hadn’t paused in his words, just continuously speaking it out.

”How should your upper couplet be read?”

Lu Xiaobu remained unaffected, as casual as ever.

”My upper couplet is...” Liu Chen read: ”The sea tide ebbs, day by day it withdraws, the morning tide recedes.”

Once the pronunciation was read out, the repeating ”morning” became very clear.

The top female student, Yu Jian, and the literature club members all had a sudden realization, so that’s how it is!

So it should be read this way!

The hidden depth was so profound!

It’s a couplet of homophones!

Such a couplet is incredibly difficult to match!

Because it’s extremely complicated!

And the lower couplet must also match precisely?

Impossible!

Wu Qianmin, astonished, stuck out her little tongue: ”It’s really that difficult.”

Zhang Meng glanced at Li Jin: ”Not boasting about your tornado anymore?”

”Mine was a typhoon,” Li Jin stubbornly said.

They weren’t worried about the Young Master at all; they were just messing around.

Liu Chen looked at Lu Xiaobu: ”Mr. Lu, yours?”

”The sea tide ebbs, day by day it withdraws, the morning tide recedes,” Lu Xiaobu repeated Liu Chen’s upper couplet once more, then slightly smiled and shared his own lower couplet: ”Floating clouds rise, continuously they rise, continuously they fade!”

When Lu Xiaobu recited his lower couplet, the expressions of the literature club students visibly changed from indifference to utter astonishment!

Yu Jian was stunned!

The top female student also watched incredulously!

At this moment, in this small grove, only the sound of the babbling brook could be heard!

The whole hall was shocked!
