Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

Chapter 373: Chapter 373: If You Wake Up as a Fourth Rank Superpower User

The family sat neatly at the dining table and began to eat breakfast.

Of course, they couldn’t wear masks while eating. Middle-aged Bai Zhengxuan and middle-aged Liu Jing slowly took off their black masks, lowering their heads and eating the food their son had prepared bit by bit.

Whether the food was delicious no longer mattered; the familiar taste stimulated their taste buds, making them uncontrollably lively.

This was the taste of home.

Bai Anhai had been a good cook since he was young. When Bai Zhengxuan wasn’t home, it was always Bai Anhai who cooked.

Later, when he started his own family and career, he continued to cook for his wife and children, and his cooking skills improved over time.

In short, eating Bai Anhai’s food felt like going back to when they still had a home.

The middle-aged Bai Zhengxuan couple savored the dishes on the table, completely unaware that their past selves were secretly observing them.

What would it feel like to meet your past and future selves?

A telepathic connection, or perhaps some subtle sensation?

Bai Zhengxuan glanced at the middle-aged Bai Zhengxuan who was eating, and blinked.

He always felt that middle-aged Bai Zhengxuan looked very handsome, quite fitting his taste.

Even... a bit like his illegitimate son.

Though it was absurd, Bai Zhengxuan felt that he resembled his younger self more than Bai Anhai did.

Liu Jing also glanced at the middle-aged Liu Jing, secretly pondering.

This person looks quite pretty, comparable to her younger self. If her eyes were slightly altered, she’d be perfect.

”You need to be more careful recently; we’ve been chasing a mysterious person who has recently come near here.”

The middle-aged Bai Zhengxuan cautiously reminded in a low voice.

Those targeted by that mysterious organization were special superpower users, and evidently, their family was.

”Mysterious person, what kind of person is that?”

Bai Yifan curiously looked at the middle-aged Bai Zhengxuan, always feeling that this uncle before him resembled a long-lost brother of his dad.

”Bad people, those who specifically capture superpower users. You should not go out alone these days, make sure to stay together,” the middle-aged Bai Zhengxuan advised.

His greatest fear was seeing the family scatter.

He thought if he and his wife hadn’t been so ignorant during the apocalypse, perhaps things would have ended differently.

At the time, when he and his wife awakened their superpowers, they thought they had contracted terminal illnesses and feared affecting their children’s lives, planning to tell them during a holiday when they weren’t busy.

They never anticipated the apocalypse would erupt, and they hadn’t contracted a terminal illness but merely awakened superpowers.

Had the family been together then, he and his wife would never have let their family die to zombies, nor let Xiao Niu be taken by the mysterious organization...

Regrets that are too late.

What they most wished to return to was before the apocalypse, to find their children at all costs.

Unfortunately, the time warp Chenghuang led them into was uncontrollable.

Even so, it was already quite good.

”Too many bad people in the apocalypse,” Bai Yifan commented with slight melancholy.

Yesterday, their family had encountered a dozen downright bad people.

Even if their actions were influenced by zombie blood, it still didn’t change the fact that they were bad people.

”So, you must keep a low profile, don’t let your powers be known to others too quickly,” the middle-aged Bai Zhengxuan discreetly stated.

The mysterious person was nearby, and if the Bai family’s powerful superpowers were exposed, they would certainly be targeted.

”Don’t worry, I’m just First Rank, it doesn’t matter if I’m discovered,” Bai Yifan said nonchalantly.

The middle-aged Bai Zhengxuan twitched his lips, sensing his family’s abilities. Indeed, Bai Yifan was the weakest.

”You also need to work on improving your superpowers,” middle-aged Liu Jing couldn’t help but advise.

It was like urging Bai Yifan to study hard.

Parents worried themselves to death.

Improving superpowers wasn’t about protecting someone else; it was a necessity to protect oneself. In the most critical moment, only oneself can protect oneself better.

”I also want to improve my superpowers!” Bai Yifan sighed, ”But I just can’t seem to improve, no matter what.”

”Are you sure you’re not using the wrong method?” the middle-aged Bai Zhengxuan asked seriously.

Having spent over a decade in the Apocalypse, the world back then had much deeper superpower research than now.

Perhaps, he could offer some suggestions for Bai Yifan to quickly improve his superpowers.

”I think it might be because my sleeping posture is not correct,” Bai Yifan nonchalantly said, taking a bite of his egg.

Absorbing Crystal Cores in the space was useless, so it surely wasn’t a method issue in improving his abilities.

It must be his posture when dreaming that was incorrect.

In dreams, everything is possible. Hopefully tonight, he could dream of becoming a Fourth Rank Superpower User like his sister.

”What does it have to do with sleeping?” the middle-aged Bai Zhengxuan couldn’t help but raise his voice.

He remembered the fear of tutoring Bai Yifan in doing homework.

His blood pressure rose, wanting to fit himself with a stent.

This kid always had wild thoughts, connecting math problems with moral lessons.

If it weren’t for middle-aged Bai Zhengxuan’s lifetime of teaching and strong psychological resilience, he wouldn’t be alive now.

”You sleep so you can dream. Dreams are all beautiful,” Bai Yifan chuckled, closing his eyes and starting a beautiful fantasy, ”If you woke up and found yourself a Fourth Rank Superpower User, how would you feel?”

Bai Xiqin: ”I already am.”

Leng Yebai: ”Indifferent.”

Bai Anhai: ”Natural progression.”

Wang Yiyun: ”Happy for two minutes.”

Bai Zhengxuan: ”Eat a pig knuckle for celebration.”

Liu Jing: ”Strike while the iron is hot, advance another rank.”

Middle-aged Bai Zhengxuan: ”... startled awake.”

Middle-aged Liu Jing: ”When did I become so weak?”

Bai Yifan: ...

Turns out he was the only one who thought being a Fourth Rank Superpower User was super powerful?

Poverty limited his imagination.

Never mind, he would be bolder and next fantasize about waking up as a Fifth Rank Superpower User.

Bai Yifan sighed deeply, bowed his head, and ate vigorously.

Transforming sorrow and anger into appetite.

After breakfast, Bai Xiqin took out some snacks.

These were all made by Bai Yifan and his siblings out of boredom, including fried dough pieces, little fried balls, and self-dried fruits.

The middle-aged Liu Jing and middle-aged Bai Zhengxuan sat quietly on the sofa, nibbling on snacks but their eyes involuntarily glanced at the photos displayed in the living room.

They were all family photos, and their eyes grazed over each one, finally stopping on a family portrait.

In the photo, the two elderly seemed cheerful and warm.

”Brother Bai, you don’t live in the safety base? Are you homeless just wandering outside?”

Bai Anhai spoke warmly to middle-aged Bai Zhengxuan.

In his view, the middle-aged Bai Zhengxuan looked young, even younger than himself, so calling him Brother Bai seemed fitting.

”We are searching for people, so we don’t plan to settle anywhere,” the middle-aged Bai Zhengxuan said, his face twitching subtly.

He remembered when Bai Anhai had poor grades; he had harshly declared that if he didn’t improve, he wouldn’t recognize him as his son.

Sure enough, Bai Anhai didn’t do well the next time.

When he returned that day, he changed his form of address, no longer calling him dad but Brother Bai.

Prophetic words...

”Who are you looking for? Did you find them?” Bai Anhai asked again.

The middle-aged Bai Zhengxuan imperceptibly glanced at Bai Xiqin, then nodded gently before shaking his head slightly.

Found, yet not found.
