Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

Chapter 355: Chapter 355: The Abandoned Children

The villagers on the roof looked at each other, carefully observing the Bai Family’s appearance, indeed different from those people yesterday.

They subconsciously assumed that anyone daring to drive a bus around outside must be kidnappers.

”Sorry, we... seem to have really mistaken you.” The elderly man smiled awkwardly at Bai Anhai, apologetically bending his waist slightly.

”What was the deal with those kidnappers you mentioned just now?”

Bai Anhai was not a magnanimous person.

On the contrary, someone who’s never suffered a setback in verbal disputes tends to be more petty than usual.

If wronged by others, he’ll surely make a comeback.

It’s a common ailment for lawyers.

”Yesterday, a bus came to the village, several Superpower Users got off it. They said they were here to take us to the Fire Phoenix Safety Base, claiming there was rescue there.” The elderly man sighed, ”We thought they were good people and let down our guard. At noon, they set up a big pot at the village entrance, offering us free chicken stew, one bowl each, insisting everyone line up together...”

The result was predictable; as everyone was ready to get their bowl of chicken, those Superpower Users suddenly changed their attitude.

Saying the chicken was for themselves, not distributing it to villagers.

If they don’t distribute, they won’t. The villagers didn’t lose anything.

Only it seemed premeditated as several Superpower Users directly abducted a few pretty girls from the village.

They drove off in their bus, deliberately causing noise to attract nearby zombies to the village before leaving.

As the elderly man spoke, blurry tears rolled down his cheeks.

They shouldn’t have greedily sought that bowl of chicken.

But in apocalyptic times, getting a piece of meat is hard, every household is accustomed to hoarding food like grains, but eating only noodles or rice is unbearable too.

Luckily, spring villages are not short of vegetables.

With simple soup and water every day, they can survive, even better than Superpower Users in the city.

Suddenly hearing about well-intentioned people distributing chicken, everyone was overjoyed and gathered in line.

Who would’ve thought they came with intentions of abducting?

”Which direction did they head?”

Bai Anhai frowned.

In the apocalyptic times, morality seemed almost vanished.

The fate of abducted girls could be guessed by anyone.

”Ran in that direction!” The elderly man sighed heavily, ”There are a lot of zombies there, we are just ordinary people...”

Every girl was the apple of her family’s eye.

Villagers knew the disparity between them and those Superpower Users, and with zombies abundant in their direction.

Those ordinary folks have no hope of pursing them.

Even if some parents wanted to retrieve their daughters, it’s useless; they don’t have the capability.

Moreover, some parents don’t only have daughters; they have sons...

In apocalyptic times, strength was the only way to protect family.

The elderly man looked at Bai Anhai, opened his mouth, wanting to say something but ended up silent.

This family in front has extremely strong Superpowers, if they helped, chances were great to rescue the girls.

However, in apocalyptic times, such rescues were akin to charity, unreturned charity.

No one knew the strength of those people, if it ended up a death trip for the Bai Family, what’s the point!

Moreover, they just offended the Bai Family.

Asking them to help rescue people was really hard to utter.

Besides, the fate of the abducted girls, villagers were all clear.

Their chastity, if it still existed, everyone understood.

They would be furious at seeing kidnappers come again, but if truly asked to pursue the kidnappers and retrieve daughters.

Who would willingly risk being eaten by zombies for that?

Even the crying man earlier wiped his tears and stood numb aside.

It seemed only when kidnappers appeared in front of him would his fighting spirit be ignited!

Villagers stayed silent, Bai Anhai didn’t mention it either, directly boarded the bus.

”Let’s go!”

Bai Anhai glanced at the villagers on the roof, sighed lightly.

Bai Yifan said nothing either, stepped hard on the accelerator and drove out the village.

”Why do I feel they really don’t want us to rescue those girls?”

Bai Yifan gripped the steering wheel, slightly curious on his face.

If his older sister were abducted, regardless of rationality, or moral coercion, he would surely cling onto others’ thighs, tearfully begging them to help rescue his sister.

Though there seemed elements of moral coercion, compared to family, face was really nothing!

Besides, the man initially crying the hardest, when realizing Bai Family aren’t kidnappers, though grief struck was apparent, he never asked the powerful Bai Family for help.

They didn’t know how many girls were taken from the village, there should be quite a few.

But why was no one applying moral coercion?

Though moral coercion can be repugnant, when lives are at stake, it seems justified.

No one mentioned it, Bai Yifan really couldn’t understand the crying man earlier.

”They’ve been abandoned.” Bai Anhai sat in the passenger seat, calmly looking ahead, ”When kidnappers are in front of villagers, they use their power to resist. But once kidnappers aren’t present, they give up.”

In the 21st century, girls seemingly hold high status, yet in many remote places, they’re still not as valuable as boys.

The concept of continuing the family line remains deeply-rooted in some people’s minds.

Saying boys and girls are the same often means only in situations where both are present would they say they prefer daughters.

Once it comes down to choosing one, even those who claim to prefer daughters often opt for sons.

Bai Anhai has seen various cases throughout his years as a lawyer.

Old people give all their property to sons, later rely on daughters for old-age care, such cases are abundant.

This is considered the most ordinary.

Some bizarre cases leave even the experienced Bai Anhai in awe.

”Why give up?” Bai Yifan was slightly puzzled, ”Aren’t they their children?”

Bai Anhai said nothing, merely leaned back in the passenger seat and closed his eyes.

Bai Anhai actually understood women living in male-preference environments the best.

Because Wang Yiyun was his wife, she suffered greatly in the Wang Family, he painfully sympathizes with young Wang Yiyun, and it extended his respect for women.

However, the world is vast, there are myriad sad happenings, Bai Anhai can only help injured women more during cases, beyond that he can’t really help much!

”Bang!”

Wang Yiyun and Liu Jing slapped the table simultaneously.

Bai Anhai and Bai Zhengxuan subconsciously twitched, simultaneously turned heads, blinking at Wang Yiyun and Liu Jing who had slapped the table.

”Let’s rescue them!”

Wang Yiyun said solemnly.

She grew up under the shadow of male preference, yet couldn’t bear seeing those girls abandoned.

Perhaps it’s saintly, but today she wanted to be a saint once.

In those abandoned girls, she vaguely saw her own shadow.

Liu Jing was also gritting her teeth in anger.

In this age, people still favored boys over girls?

She thought only in her childhood could she face unfair treatment!
