The Side Character Who Wins by Doing Nothing

”How dare you!”

At the critical moment, a powerful aura appeared and blocked Lu Sangjiu’s strike just in time.

...It was another Body Integration Realm Supreme Elder from the Beast Taming Sect.

Lu Sangjiu narrowed her eyes, about to swing her blade again.

But Bai Sheng, beside her, grabbed her arm. ”A Jiu, don’t get bogged down in this fight. If we drag this out and alert a Transcendance Tribulation Stage ancestor, we won’t be able to escape.”

Lu Sangjiu was reluctant. ’I’ll definitely regret this if I don’t kill those two today,’ she thought.

But Bai Sheng was right... She had little chance of winning against three Body Integration Realm cultivators by herself. If a Transcendance Tribulation Stage ancestor showed up, they would all die here.

’Oh well. Bai Sheng has seen the light and has already severed all ties with the Beast Taming Sect. We’ve rescued our people, so we should quit while we’re ahead.’

So, seeing that the two hadn’t attacked again, she tossed out a crisp line, ”Old scoundrel, I’ll give you a proper fight another day. I won’t be keeping you company today!”

Lu Sangjiu brought Bai Sheng back to the Western Demon Realm. From then on, the Moon Palace had a new member: a defector from a Cultivation Sect.

Of course, the commotion from that day’s battle alerted many people.

The Beast Taming Sect’s version of the story was this: The sect’s traitor, Bai Sheng, colluded with the Female Demon of the Moon Palace, Gu Huang, to murder her master. Afterward, showing no remorse, she joined forces with them to launch a night raid on the Beast Taming Sect. It was only thanks to the Beast Taming Sect’s desperate resistance that the Moon Palace’s conspiracy was temporarily thwarted.

Furthermore, the Beast Taming Sect claimed that the Western Demon Realm was now harboring grand ambitions, intending to make a move against the Cultivation Sects.

Therefore, they wanted to ally with the other four major sects to stand against the Western Demon Realm.

There were already some Demon Cultivators causing trouble outside and ruining the reputation of all Demon Cultivators.

This incident further intensified the conflict, making the relationship between Immortals and Demons increasingly tense.

Bai Sheng felt deeply guilty about all this.

However, Fa Shan seemed to have a thing for Bai Sheng and spent all day with her, which set Lu Sangjiu’s mind at ease.

The days flew by. Lu Sangjiu felt that life in the Moon Palace was peaceful and happy, but... for some reason, she always felt a profound sense of insecurity.

She always felt that the beauty before her was illusory, as if it could shatter at a touch and collapse at any moment.

’And... I always feel like I’ve forgotten something. What is it?’

One day, Fa Shan suddenly rushed in to report, ”Palace Master, this is bad! Our people were ambushed by members of the Cultivation Sects while out on a mission!”

Lu Sangjiu shot to her feet. ”These self-righteous hypocrites who twist right and wrong are really getting out of hand.”

They had tried to explain the situation with Bai Sheng, but the other side simply refused to believe them, convinced that Demon Cultivators were inherently evil.

Lu Sangjiu herself was a proud person. If they wouldn’t listen to her explanation once, she couldn’t be bothered to say it again.

Thus, the conflict between the two sides escalated. Now they even dared to ambush people near the Western Demon Realm... This was going too far!

”I’ll go myself! These people, if I don’t show them what I’m capable of, they’ll never stop!”

Lu Sangjiu decided to go personally. Bringing others would only be a burden.

She tore through space alone, appearing on the battlefield in an instant.

”Kill one person from my Moon Palace, and I will kill ten of yours in return. Are you... prepared to die?”

Lu Sangjiu’s expression was frosty, the Domineering Demon Qi from her Domination Map swirling in her hand. She looked ready to start a massacre.

Until she got a clear look at the scene before her and was instantly dumbfounded. The unrivaled, domineering aura she had just projected fizzled out immediately.

’...How is the situation in front of me so different from what I imagined?’

There were no fields of corpses, nor rivers of blood.

There was only a group of Buddhist Practitioners, radiating an aura of compassion, surrounding the people from the Moon Palace.

And then... an old monk was sitting on a cattail cushion, preaching the Buddhist Law to them.

Her grand entrance made everyone turn to look at her in unison.

Lu Sangjiu fell silent.

On a battlefield, her appearance would have been the epitome of domineering.

But in this situation... it was just awkward.

In the dead silence, a Buddhist Practitioner suddenly chanted a Buddhist phrase and chuckled. ”Patron, we are Buddhist Practitioners from the Ten Thousand Buddha Sect.”

”We are only here today to spread the Buddhist Law and have not harmed anyone. I’m afraid you won’t be able to go on a killing spree, Patron.”

”You seem to carry a heavy murderous aura. If you are not busy, why not sit down and listen to the Buddhist Law with us? Perhaps it can resolve the confusion in your heart?”

Lu Sangjiu: ”...”

To this, she only wanted to say one thing: ’Are you... insane?!’

To make matters worse, one of the Moon Palace disciples even nodded along. ”Palace Master, Palace Master, what this old bald donkey is saying is pretty interesting. Why don’t you stay and listen too?”

The moment he finished speaking, a monk next to him rapped him on the head with a ruler.

”How rude! You must call him ’Master’!”

The disciple cried out ”OUCH!” and rubbed his head, his eyes full of grievance. ”Oh,” he said, obediently correcting himself, ”Right, right, not a bald donkey, a Master!”

Lu Sangjiu: ”...”

’What is this, a classroom for three-year-olds???’

Lu Sangjiu felt the blood rush to her head. ’I can’t... This is too stupid, I can’t watch this!’

She took a deep breath, trying hard to maintain her aloof image as a Palace Master. ”My Moon Palace disciples won’t trouble you for your teachings any longer. Farewell!”

After speaking, she flicked her sleeve, gathering all her disciples into its folds, then turned and tore through space to flee.

Watching Lu Sangjiu come and go in such a hurry, the remaining group of monks looked at each other in bewilderment.

Someone said regretfully, ”He’d only been preaching for an hour. She should have stayed a little longer.”

”Sigh, I just saw one with a good aptitude for Buddhism. I was planning to ask him later if he wanted to convert to our Buddhist Sect. What a shame I didn’t get the chance.”

Amid the lively discussion, someone suddenly spoke up.

”Wait... where’s the Buddha Son? Did any of you see the Buddha Son?”

”I didn’t see him. Did you?”

”No... Oh no! Do you think the Female Demon took the Buddha Son with her?”

Instantly, the Buddhist Practitioners were in an uproar.

”Could it be that the Female Demon saw how handsome our Buddha Son is and took the opportunity to snatch him away?”

”HISS... I’ve heard the Female Demon has a taste for handsome men! This is bad, our Buddha Son’s chastity is in danger!”

”What do we do? The Female Demon is at the Body Integration Realm, we can’t defeat her!”

”Then... then hurry up and find the Abbot to save him! Any later and the Buddha Son will be ruined!”

At this moment, the Female Demon Lu Sangjiu was sitting on the main throne in the great hall of the Moon Palace, staring blankly at the young monk she had accidentally brought back with her.

’Hiss... In my haste, how did I accidentally bring one extra person back?’

The only one to blame was the young monk himself. He hadn’t shaved his head, nor was he wearing a kasaya. On top of that, he had been sitting right in the middle of the Moon Palace disciples.

In her hurry, Lu Sangjiu didn’t get a clear look and mistakenly swept him up along with the others with a wave of her hand.

Right now, the young monk was sitting primly on a cattail cushion below the throne, eyes closed, a string of Buddhist beads in his hand, softly chanting scriptures.

She had to admit, he was truly handsome—the most handsome man Lu Sangjiu had ever seen.

Sitting upright and chanting scriptures like this, he looked especially earnest, which made him even more attractive.

’It’s such a pity... Of all things, he had to be a Buddhist Practitioner. What a waste of God’s creation.’

While he meditated with his eyes closed, Lu Sangjiu propped her chin on her hand and shamelessly admired his face.

Until Fa Shan, standing beside her, could no longer watch and cleared his throat to remind her, ”Palace Master, this little monk... what should we do with him?”
