The Side Character Who Wins by Doing Nothing

Chi Yan didn’t know what Lu Sangjiu was planning, but he trusted her. The moment he appeared, he joined the battle without a second thought.

Lu Sangjiu had originally wanted to take things slow, but with the trio’s Array now broken, it was clear they couldn’t hold out for much longer.

So her only option was to resort to a riskier method: have Chi Yan lure some of them over, where she’d try to kill a few in a single ambush.

Chi Yan was very reliable, and his strength was a cut above his junior brother’s. The moment he joined the battlefield, he forced several of their opponents to retreat.

The leader made a swift decision. ”Three of you, deal with this kid! The rest of you, stick with me and keep surrounding these three!”

”We’ve already made our move, so we can’t afford to fail!”

Although they had made preparations, during the fight, they had inevitably used some of their signature techniques or Magic Treasures.

Three of the four of them were from the Four Great Sects. If they left now, there would surely be endless trouble later on.

So, three of the ambushers immediately went after Chi Yan. Remembering Lu Sangjiu’s instructions, Chi Yan fought while retreating. Before long, he had lured all three of them to Lu Sangjiu’s hiding spot.

The spell Lu Sangjiu used for Concealing Aura was one she had created herself, and its effect was so good that they didn’t notice her at all.

Once they were close, Lu Sangjiu found the right moment and sent a mental message to Chi Yan: ”Get back!”

Thinking fast, Chi Yan pretended to be hit by an opponent’s Spell to avoid arousing suspicion, using the force of the blow to fly backward.

Lu Sangjiu seized the opportunity and threw out a bottle of Spirit-killing Water.

This time, she didn’t even need to cast a spell to break the bottle; the three men subconsciously swung their swords at it.

And then, tragedy struck.

Before they could even let out a scream, the two who were splashed with the Spirit-killing Water melted into puddles of poisonous liquid on the spot.

At the same time, a toxic mist formed and rushed toward the remaining man.

Unfortunately, the last one reacted quickly, instantly forming layers of Protective Shields. The toxic mist failed to take his life.

But Lu Sangjiu wasn’t one to sit back and do nothing. She simultaneously formed hand seals for a spell, using the Wood Attribute of her Six-sided Exquisite Dice to strike first. In an instant, wooden vines shot out to entangle the man.

The man quickly retreated, hacking at the wooden vines with his Flying Sword.

Lu Sangjiu didn’t want to reveal too many of her trump cards here, so she chose not to go for a finishing blow, merely using the wooden vines to contend with the man.

Fortunately, Chi Yan was quick to react and immediately rushed forward to help.

Seeing Chi Yan approach, the man gritted his teeth and consumed more Spiritual Energy to strengthen his Flying Sword’s attack. The wooden vines were broken, and Lu Sangjiu was also slightly affected by the backlash.

In reality, it wasn’t a big deal, but it triggered her old ailment again, causing her to spit up a mouthful of blood.

This played right into Lu Sangjiu’s hands. She had done enough for now; the others could definitely handle the remaining enemies.

Spitting blood gave her the perfect excuse to rest due to ”injury,” and it also prevented her from revealing too many of her trump cards and attracting unwanted attention.

Chi Yan practiced Body Cultivation and was better at close-quarters combat.

Lu Sangjiu had trapped the Cultivator with her vines for a moment, giving Chi Yan the perfect opportunity to get close. He immediately channeled power into his arm and threw a punch at the man’s chest.

Although the man immediately formed a Protective Shield, the punch shattered it layer by layer, with the final blow landing squarely on his chest and sending him flying.

As fate would have it, he landed right on the puddles of poison. He let out a pained shriek, and in the next instant, he went silent.

Chi Yan immediately turned to check on Lu Sangjiu. Seeing her spit up blood, he grew frantic. ”How are you so badly injured?”

He had just sworn he would protect her, yet she’d gotten hurt in the blink of an eye. He was instantly filled with self-reproach.

Lu Sangjiu ”struggled” to her feet and shook her head, reproaching herself. ”It’s not life-threatening, but I’m afraid I don’t have the strength to help you any further for now...”

When Chi Yan heard this, he was even more moved that Lu Sangjiu was still thinking of helping them despite her condition. He took out a whole pile of healing medicines and stuffed them into her hands. ”Just focus on healing! Leave the rest to us!”

Before Lu Sangjiu could even refuse, Chi Yan had already turned and run off.

So she called out earnestly after him, ”Mr. Chi, be careful! And watch out you don’t touch that poison over there!”

After she spoke, the look on Lu Sangjiu’s face vanished. She turned, found a clean spot, and sat down to rest.

With three of their group of seven dead in an instant, the remaining few began to panic. Moreover, for some unknown reason, they felt their Spiritual Energy draining rapidly. Even though they were constantly taking pills, they couldn’t keep up with the consumption.

Faced with such a disadvantage, they couldn’t help but think of retreating.

But the Female Cultivator from the Lingjian Sect had a fiery temper. She had been on the defensive earlier, and now that the tables had turned, how could she possibly let them retreat in one piece?

Just as they were about to flee, she summoned a bell-shaped Magic Treasure. The treasure flew into mid-air, and in an instant, a canopy of light, identical in shape but dozens of times larger, appeared and trapped everyone inside.

The few who were trying to escape slammed headfirst into the canopy of light but were unable to get out.

This momentary delay allowed the others to catch up and attack them ferociously.

Lu Sangjiu watched the show from under a tree. Only when she was certain the four ambushers had no chance of turning the tables did she, with a thought, quietly recall the Devouring Spirit Sand.

In fact, right from the start, she had secretly used a grain of Devouring Spirit Sand on each of them.

A single grain of sand absorbed Spiritual Power slowly, but it was much harder to detect.

If Lin Ziye’s group of three had been able to hold on a little longer using the Array she had taught them, they could have dragged things out until their enemies’ Spiritual Power was completely drained, turning defeat into victory.

’Unfortunately, that male cultivator just wasn’t up to snuff, so I had to step in. A whole vial of my Spirit-killing Water, wasted.’

After a short while, Chi Yan and the others killed the rest of the ambushers.

After a simple cleanup of the battlefield, Chi Yan threw their bodies into the remaining Spirit-killing Water to completely destroy the evidence, then led the trio over to Lu Sangjiu.

Lu Sangjiu was pretending to meditate and regulate her energy. When they drew near, she opened her eyes as if she had just finished.

Seeing Lu Sangjiu open her eyes, Chi Yan was the first to ask with concern, ”Immortal, how are your injuries?”

Lu Sangjiu had just coughed up a lot of blood, and her face was a little pale, but she gave a gentle and kind smile. ”Much better. You all suffered quite a few injuries as well. You should hurry and regulate your energy!”

She seemed very easy to get along with, and she had just saved them. Lin Ziye’s impression of her was quite good.

Hearing this, he couldn’t help but smile at her and say, ”You are our savior; we should be the first to thank you. I am Lin Ziye of the Golden Elephant Sect. Thank you for stepping in to help us!”

Lu Sangjiu immediately put on an embarrassed expression, waving her hands dismissively. ”Oh, please don’t say that. I just relied on some poison I had. Mr. Chi was the one who did the real work.”

However, the Female Cultivator from the Lingjian Sect at her side suddenly spoke up coldly, ”A rescue is a rescue. We’re not handing out prizes based on who did the most work. What’s with all the false modesty?”

Lu Sangjiu: ”...”

’This Female Cultivator... Her temper is truly awful. She’s so blunt.’
