The Side Character Who Wins by Doing Nothing

However, to Lu Sangjiu’s surprise, after snapping at her, the female cultivator cupped her fist in her palm. ”Liu Xi of the Lingjian Sect. Thank you for your help, fellow cultivator.”

Liu Xi!

Upon hearing the name, Lu Sangjiu was so shocked she forgot about everything else.

’...Isn’t this the junior sister of the male lead, Gu Jue?’

The reason she knew the name was because Liu Xi was the vicious female supporting character who played a major role in Ye Zhiyao’s story.

Liu Xi was in love with Gu Jue, had a fiery temper, and had always despised Ye Zhiyao, which led to constant conflict between the two of them.

Of course, as the vicious supporting female character who antagonized the protagonist at every turn, she eventually got herself killed.

Lu Sangjiu hadn’t expected to run into Liu Xi here. But... while her temper was certainly bad, Lu Sangjiu didn’t think she was a particularly bad person.

What Liu Xi had just said to the male cultivator was harsh but correct. And even though she had snapped at Lu Sangjiu, she had also thanked her sincerely.

She wasn’t so much a bad person as she was a young girl who was a bit blunt and lacked social graces.

Since Lin Ziye was with Liu Xi, he couldn’t help but smile awkwardly at her tactlessness. He quickly bowed to Lu Sangjiu with cupped hands. ”Please don’t take offense, fellow cultivator. Liu Dao You is just blunt, she’s not a bad person!”

Lu Sangjiu maintained her pure and kind persona, shaking her head. ”It’s alright. I am Lu Sangjiu of the Seven Emotions Sect. We all belong to the Four Great Sects, so we should help each other. There’s no need to be so polite.”

Liu Xi suddenly spoke up again. ”I know you.”

Lu Sangjiu wasn’t surprised. After all, before they entered the Secret Realm, Liu Xi’s master had given her a Sword Talisman.

’Everyone was there. It’d be stranger if she *didn’t* know who I was.’

Although she knew what Liu Xi meant, Lu Sangjiu had no intention of continuing that line of conversation. She simply offered a harmless smile and said, ”We’ve made our introductions. Let’s all meditate and recover our strength.”

No one said anything more, and they all turned to find a place to meditate.

Throughout their conversation, they had all tacitly and thoroughly ignored the male cultivator.

The male cultivator looked abashed, but he knew his earlier actions had offended them. He was lucky they weren’t holding a grudge.

So he took the hint, offered a quick word of thanks to Lu Sangjiu and Chi Yan, and then turned and left.

Chi Yan was the least injured, and relying on his freakishly strong constitution, he was up and about in no time.

Without disturbing the other two, Chi Yan walked over to Lu Sangjiu and spoke to her via sound transmission.

”Immortal, what was that poison you used earlier? It was incredible!”

It melted a Cultivator into a puddle of poison in an instant. How had he never heard of a poison that powerful?

It wasn’t strange that he hadn’t heard of Spirit-killing Water. After all, the once-mighty Western Demon Realm had faded from the sight of Cultivators for over a hundred years.

These days, the Demon Cultivators of the Western Demon Realm mostly confined their activities to their own territory, so very few of their items ever made it to the Cultivation World.

Since he didn’t know, Lu Sangjiu didn’t bother explaining. She just gave a vague reply, ”Yes, it’s a unique poison. A single touch is fatal to a Cultivator.”

Chi Yan was shocked. ”Doesn’t that make you invincible?!”

”Of course not.” Lu Sangjiu shook her head. ”The poison is powerful, but it can’t be infused with Spiritual Power. I can only throw it by hand.”

”Once an enemy is on guard, it’s very difficult to use. It’s really only effective for sneak attacks.”

After hearing Lu Sangjiu’s explanation, Chi Yan couldn’t help but mutter in disappointment, ”Oh, so that’s how it is... What a shame. I thought we’d be unstoppable.”

But true to his nature, Chi Yan’s disappointment lasted only a moment. He quickly perked up. ”Oh, right! We just searched the storage bags of those last three people. Guess what we found?”

Lu Sangjiu thought for a moment. ”You found out their identities?”

Chi Yan’s eyes widened, and he exclaimed with great exaggeration, ”Immortal, you’re brilliant!”

Lu Sangjiu: ”...”

’Thank you, but I suspect it’s simply because you’re a bit dense.’

She smiled. ”So, which sect are they from?”

Chi Yan lowered his voice. ”Those four were all from a small sect called the Qilin Sect. I’ve never even heard of it before.”

”The other three were too completely melted to identify, so we don’t know if they were also from the Qilin Sect. But even if it was just those four, it’s still very strange.”

”After all, we were all scattered far apart when we entered. How did these guys manage to group up so quickly?”

Lu Sangjiu nodded. ”It is a bit strange.”

Although those three had been completely annihilated by the Spirit-killing Water, judging from their seamless coordination earlier, Lu Sangjiu was fairly certain they were all part of the same group.

Never mind how they grouped up so quickly—just look at their strength. While they couldn’t compare to Chi Yan or Liu Xi, they were still quite formidable.

How could a sect no one had ever heard of produce so many experts? And how did they all manage to gain entry to the Secret Realm?

Lu Sangjiu had a feeling there was more to this than met the eye.

’But... what does it have to do with me?’

’No matter how huge the conspiracy, as long as it isn’t aimed at me, I can’t be bothered to get involved.’

So she had no intention of discussing it further with Chi Yan. ”It looks like the others have finished recovering,” she said. ”Let’s divide up the spoils.”

They had just acquired four storage bags, a result of their joint effort, so it was only natural to divide the spoils now.

Chi Yan’s attention was successfully diverted. He glanced over and saw that the other two had indeed opened their eyes, so he called out cheerfully, ”Come on, come on! Let’s divide the loot!”

Overall, the haul from the four storage bags was pretty decent.

The Elixir Pills and Spirit Stones were divided evenly into four shares. That left ten usable Magic Treasures.

Liu Xi spoke up first. ”Lin Dao You and I are indebted to you both for saving our lives. We’ll each take just two of the Magic Treasures.”

Lin Ziye nodded in agreement. Chi Yan didn’t stand on ceremony and just said to Lu Sangjiu, ”Immortal, you pick first!”

Since no one else had any objections, Lu Sangjiu certainly didn’t either.

Before choosing, however, she finally voiced a question that had been nagging at her for a long time. ”Mr. Chi, why do you keep calling me Immortal instead of ’fellow cultivator’?”

Before meeting Liu Xi, Lu Sangjiu had just assumed he called all Female Cultivators ”Immortal,” so she hadn’t paid it any mind.

But she had just heard him call Liu Xi ”Liu Dao You.” Why was he still calling her ”Immortal”? It sounded a bit awkward.

Chi Yan blushed and scratched the back of his head in embarrassment. ”Ahem... Immortal, you’re beautiful and gentle... you just... really seem like an Immortal.”

Lu Sangjiu: ”...”

’Honestly, cultivators used to call me the Female Demon. Suddenly being called an Immortal... it’s taking some getting used to.’

’But on the other hand, doesn’t this just prove my disguise is working well? Fine, ’Immortal’ it is!’

Lu Sangjiu didn’t think much of those few Magic Treasures, so she just casually took three, planning to sell them for Spirit Stones when she got back.

The others didn’t seem particularly interested either. They each made a casual selection, and with that, the loot was divided.

”It’s gotten dark. We should find a place to rest for the night, quickly.”

Chi Yan said with concern, ”This forest at night is nothing like it is during the day. All the poisonous snakes and ferocious beasts prefer to come out after dark.”
