Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 100: Chapter 97 Come over here!

”Good!”

”Sir, powerful!”

”Sir, powerful!”

Watching the sorry state of the enemy horse, Yang Mingzhi and the others excitedly called out.

And amidst the chaos from the opposite side, followed by a round of scolding and cursing, that Jiala Ezheng mounted another warhorse.

Yang Zhenshan raised his hand to signal a halt, and the soldiers’ cheers stopped.

Afterward, he spurred his horse forward, coming to the river’s edge.

With a swing of his long spear, he pointed directly at the Northern barbarian cavalry opposite him.

”Come over here!”

”Ha ha ha~~”

He laughed wildly, laughingly with arrogance and provocation.

This was an insult, a blatant insult.

Yet in his heart, he thought, get angry, get furious and charge at me recklessly, otherwise, you’re nothing but cowards.

Yes, he was engaging in psychological warfare.

The longer the situation dragged on, the worse it became for them.

Because he was unaware of the other garrisons’ situations and the conditions within the city walls, especially Linguan Castle, which was only ten li from the city walls—if a large army approached, Linguan Castle would not be able to hold.

He didn’t have time to drag this out with this group.

The Jiala Ezheng opposite him was clearly not of good temper; otherwise, he would not have cursed his subordinates just now.

Seeing Yang Zhenshan’s provocation and insult, the explosive-tempered Jiala Ezheng could not hold back.

”Charge!”

He recklessly raised his long sword, pointing at Yang Zhenshan.

The next moment, he led the way, stepping onto the icy river surface.

Seeing this, the corners of Yang Zhenshan’s mouth curled slightly as he pulled the reins and returned to the Cavalry formation.

He did not charge directly but led the Cavalry to race toward the west, leaving only two hundred foot soldiers lined up along the river to wait.

The Jiala Ezheng, seeing this, thought Yang Zhenshan was afraid and started to curse arrogantly.

While cursing, he sped up to chase, fearing Yang Zhenshan would truly flee.

And his following soldiers could only hurry after him.

The ice on the river was solid indeed, running a horse on it was not a problem, but that was with just one horse. Now, there were over six hundred cavalrymen stepping onto the same spot consecutively.

As you can imagine, the ice could not bear the weight of more than six hundred Northern barbarian Cavalry crossing the river. After less than half had crossed, the ice crumbled with a loud crash.

The barbarian cavalry behind fell into the water one after another, creating chaos.

The Ying River was not deep, and due to the drought last year, even with heavy rain, it still suffered from water shortage. So the river was only one or two meters deep.

Under normal circumstances, even if a horse fell into the river, it could climb back up.

But now, with a group of barbarian cavalry crowded together, their horses panicked upon touching water, and cavalrymen dressed in heavy leather armor struggled to move, you can picture the scene.

However, the Jiala Ezheng at the very front didn’t care about anything, after crossing the river, he actually pursued Yang Zhenshan directly.

Yang Zhenshan had no intention of fleeing; his aim was to create distance, beneficial for a Cavalry charge.

They had not run five hundred meters before they circled around and turned back.

The results of several months of training were now evident as three hundred Cavalry turned around while maintaining tight formation.

When turning back, Yang Zhenshan faced the charging Jiala Ezheng with a flash of coldness in his eyes.

”Charge!”

”Courage forged in battle, to conquer or to die. Forward without retreat, relentless until the end!”

Yang Zhenshan shouted loudly.

His understanding of Cavalry was simply to charge.

A charge without any reason.

Regardless of what lay ahead, only by charging through could one find a path to life.

”Forward without retreat, relentless until the end!”

Hearing Yang Zhenshan’s shout, the soldiers behind him began to yell with torn throats.

Their sonorous voices echoed through heaven and earth, carried far by the piercing cold wind.

Even the military households within the garrison could hear them.

Worry, exhilaration, fear. A mix of emotions came together.

Yang Zhenshan’s charge against the Jiala Ezheng was a head-on confrontation.

A few hundred meters apart, within the space of a breath, the two collided.

The Jiala Ezheng was no weakling; he had the audacity to be reckless but unfortunately, he had come against Yang Zhenshan.

Up to this moment, aside from Yang Zhenshan himself, no one knew how advanced his cultivation was.

For nearly a year and a half, Yang Zhenshan had been drinking Spiritual Spring Water every day, and recently, he had been using it as common water.

The Yang family cooked with diluted Spiritual Spring Water, they drank diluted Spiritual Spring Water, and in Yang Zhenshan’s study, the teapot always contained pure Spiritual Spring Water.

Day by day, every drop of Spiritual Spring Water brought Yang Zhenshan a bit of improvement.

Boom!

A muffled thunderclap suddenly exploded amidst the thundering of galloping hooves.

The golden Feiyu spear thrust directly out like a dragon or snake, fast as lightning.

An inch longer, an inch stronger.

Yang Zhenshan’s spear was longer than Jiala Ezheng’s sword.

Before the blade could reach, the tip of the spear had already landed on Jiala Ezheng’s chest.

The copper Heart Protector, like a rock, shattered in an instant, and the snow-white spear-tip pierced into the chest, blood spurting forth.

At this moment, Jiala Ezheng had barely brought down his raised long sword, but the spear tip had already pierced through his back, and his body weakened as if a deflated ball.

Ding!

The blade struck Yang Zhenshan’s shoulder, sparking off a few sparks, and then there was no follow-up.

”You!”

Jiala Ezheng hung on Yang Zhenshan’s spear like a rag, his eyes wide open with fear, staring at the nearby Yang Zhenshan.

However, Yang Zhenshan didn’t even look at him, simply flicking his long spear and throwing him off like a torn rag.

Red Cloud’s speed didn’t decrease, Jiala Ezheng fell to the ground, and soon was trampled under the thundering horse hooves.

”Charge relentlessly, fight until death!”

Yang Zhenshan clamped his legs around the horse’s belly, waving his long spear with thunderous roars, the bright spear tip bloomed like lightning piercing through fresh bloodstains.

Six hundred Northern barbarian cavalry, nearly three hundred either fell into the water or were blocked on the other side of the river.

Yang Zhenshan only faced about three hundred Northern barbarian cavalry.

And these three hundred Northern barbarian cavalry had just crossed the river and had not had time to reorganize their formation when Yang Zhenshan charged straight through them.

The battle came quickly and ended just as fast.

By the time Yang Zhenshan looked back, he startlingly discovered that of the three hundred Northern barbarian cavalry, only a handful of lonely figures remained on horseback, the rest all lay on the ground.

The remaining were easily dealt with by the prepared Ren Sheng, leading two hundred infantrymen in a surge forward.

”Hahaha, exhilarating!”

Yang Zhenshan laughed loudly.

At this moment, he was drenched in blood, even his beard was dyed a fresh red, and his golden armor embossed with mountain patterns was also smeared with blood stains.

”Come at me!”

Once again, he raised his blood-stained Flying Fish Spear, pointing at the remaining Northern barbarian cavalry on the other side, and shouted loudly.

”Come at me!”

Yang Mingwu, Yang Qinwu and other soldiers also shouted together.

There was no need to elaborate on the mockery and ridicule.

And the Northern barbarian cavalry on the other side, watching the gruesome battle, who dared to cross the river now?

Even though their leader was killed, they did not dare to come over for revenge.

Seeing them hesitant to move forward, Yang Zhenshan glanced back at the cavalry behind him.

”Ming Wu, disperse and cross the river!”

Since the opponents didn’t dare to come, they would go to them.

The ice here had already broken, but the ice in other places was still intact.

Saying so, Yang Zhenshan took the lead with a hundred cavalry under Song Dashan’s command towards the west, running two to three miles before they leisurely crossed the river.

The Northern barbarian cavalry had noticed their intentions, but they had lost all their morale by this time and did not dare to meet them in battle, fleeing desolately towards the North.

Yang Zhenshan and his men closely pursued them, and at this time, another advantage brought by the Spiritual Spring Water emerged.

The three hundred warhorses given by Zhou Lan were good horses, and during this period, Yang Zhenshan fed them with diluted Spiritual Spring Water every few days, enough to make these warhorses stronger than others.

They were faster than their opponents, their stamina also stronger.

At first, the distance between the two sides was three to four miles, but as time went on, the gap narrowed.

Just as Yang Zhenshan was about to catch up with them, he suddenly reined in Red Cloud.

”Stop!”

”My lord, what’s wrong?” Yang Mingwu and Yang Mingzhi followed closely behind.

Yang Zhenshan looked ahead without speaking.

The sound of horse hooves was incessant; they stopped, but the sound of hooves grew louder and louder, like thunder rolling in from the North.

Without the need for Yang Zhenshan to say more, Yang Mingwu and Yang Mingzhi soon saw a large number of cavalry appearing on the distant hilltops.

The cavalry charged, whipping up billows of dust, darkening the skies.

”Go!”

Yang Zhenshan didn’t hesitate, turned around, and sprinted back in the direction they came from.

What a joke!

Although it was just a glance, Yang Zhenshan saw at least a thousand cavalry.

And he couldn’t see how many more were behind the dust.

Facing so many enemies, not running would mean waiting for death, right?

It was fortunate that Yang Zhenshan ran fast, or else they would have been utterly annihilated.

Because they had encountered the main force of the East Sea Hu Clan.

This time, the East Sea Hu Clan’s invasion of the Northeastern frontier adopted a different strategy from the previous invasion.

Last time, they first reached the foot of Chongshan Pass City, holding down the defending army inside the city.

This time, they first dispersed into the territory, and then headed for Chongshan Pass City.

There were slight differences between the two, but the aim was the same – to buy more time for the looting Northern barbarian cavalry to pillage.

Soon Yang Zhenshan led the cavalry back to the south bank of Ying River.

However, Yang Zhenshan was heavy-hearted, he didn’t know that they were the East Sea Hu Clan’s main force, but even just a thousand cavalry was not something they could handle.

After returning to the south bank of Ying River, Yang Zhenshan gazed toward the North, wanting to see if those Northern barbarian cavalry would come this way.

But he waited until dusk and saw no sign of them.

Why would the East Sea Hu Clan be willing to waste time on a small garrison? At this moment, they were hurrying towards Chongshan Pass, not bothering with Yinghe Castle at all.

Even though Yinghe Castle had caused them a loss of three hundred cavalrymen, they still didn’t want to waste time on it.

”Big Mountain, arrange for scouts to search for those Northern barbarian cavalry!”

The evening was already darkening, but Yang Zhenshan still sent out scouts.

Without confirming the target of those Northern barbarian cavalry, he definitely couldn’t sleep peacefully tonight.

Song Dashan personally took three small flags’ worth of scouts to spread out. About two hours later, they began to return one after another.
