Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 69: Chapter 68: The things from my Left Camp are not for everyone to meddle with! Chapter 69: Chapter 68: The things from my Left Camp are not for everyone to meddle with! Cao Han’s eyes, sharp like swords, firmly stared at Yang Zhenshan, his intention to kill unrestrainedly released.

The camp was attacked, tens of thousands of soldiers suffered defeat and scattered, and he had no idea when the Northern barbarian cavalry would come chasing; Cao Han had no intention to waste his time here spouting nonsense with Yang Zhenshan.

Had they not fled too hurriedly, even failing to carry basic provisions, he would not have bothered with Yang Zhenshan’s supply convoy.

Yang Zhenshan too stared back at him, their gazes clashing in the air, instantly rendering the atmosphere tense, very much like swords drawn and bows bent.

“Damn it, it’s your good fortune that the garrison General is willing to accept you, yet you dare to refuse!”

“Drop your weapons and stand aside obediently!”

Cao Han himself did not speak, but one of his men, whether a trusted aide or a house servant, spoke up first.

Bullying by relying on power, his tone and demeanor extremely arrogant, not placing Yang Zhenshan and the others in his eyes at all.

As he spoke, it was like they should feel fortunate that Cao Han was willing to accept them.

“Do you know who the garrison General is? The garrison General is the Second Young Master of Marquis Qingyang Mansion, the grandson-in-law of Mr. Zhang!”

“How dare you show such disrespect, you deserve a beating!”

The man kept yelling.

Upon hearing this, Yang Mingzhi and Yang Mingwu’s faces couldn’t help but show frightened and worried expressions.

Marquis Qingyang, that’s a noble!

And Mr. Zhang, that is Zhang Yude, the garrison eunuch of Chongshan Town.

To them, such a background represented an extremely noble existence.

Though they have been following Yang Zhenshan in the military for several months now, their hearts were still truly those of ordinary civilians.

Some concepts cannot be changed in a short period of time.

Everyone’s eyes fell on Yang Zhenshan.

And Yang Zhenshan was still looking at Cao Han.

As for things like Marquis Qingyang, Yang Zhenshan did not take them to heart.

Though he didn’t know much about Marquis Qingyang, in front of Duke Ning Mansion, Marquis Qingyang was definitely insignificant.

But the garrison eunuch Zhang Yude, he could not ignore.

A county official is not as good as the current one managing.

Marquis Qingyang Mansion is not in Chongshan Pass, but the garrison eunuch Zhang Yude holds massive power in Chongshan Pass.

However, on the other hand, when the sky falls, there’s a tall one to support it.

We are also not without strong support, there’s no need to be overly cautious.

“Shut up!”

Yang Zhenshan coldly shouted, suddenly holding a Short Spear in his hand, with a swoosh, a fierce cold light shot directly at the yelling man.

The speed of the Short Spear was extremely fast, while the man was still yelling, the cold light had already reached his face.

“How dare you!”

Cao Han was also quick to react, the moment Yang Zhenshan made his move, he instantly unsheathed the sword at his waist, blocking it in front of the Short Spear.

Clang!

A three-foot-long Yan Ling Saber chopped down the Short Spear.

Only then did the yelling man realize he had almost lost his life, his face turning extremely pale.

Naturally, Yang Zhenshan ignored the yelling man, placed the Gold-plated Flying Fish Spear in front of him, and drew two more Short Spears from behind, his gaze firmly on Cao Han.

“Things belonging to Left Camp are not for just anyone to covet!”

Now he belonged to Left Camp, and everything behind him belonged to Left Camp.

No matter what Cao Han intended to do, it would mean encroaching on possessions of Left Camp.

Though he was just a minor military provisions officer in Left Camp, behind him stood Left Camp, and also Zhou Lan, a Guerrilla General from Duke Ning Mansion.

In essence, Yang Zhenshan was flaunting his connections.

First, he brought up Left Camp.

Putting on a frosty face, Cao Han looked at Yang Zhenshan; he truly did not expect Yang Zhenshan to be so uncompromising.

He originally thought that even if Yang Zhenshan was reluctant, upon knowing his own identity and background, he should naturally act according to his orders.

Then, whether it be food or warhorses, he could easily take his pick from the supply convoy.

But now, Yang Zhenshan’s firm refusal was not just about what he wanted, but it was also a matter of his own dignity.

If today he retreats like this, when he returns to Chongshan Pass, he will likely become the laughingstock of many.

Even a mere grain transport officer he couldn’t handle, what face does Mr. Cao of Marquis Qingyang Mansion have left to maintain.

Indeed, Cao Han is angry precisely because of this.

If Yang Zhenshan knew he was still concerned about face, he would definitely scold him for being brainless.

At a time like this, he’s still concerned about face.

Chongshan Town suffered a great defeat, and a storm is inevitably approaching Chongshan Pass next.

Not to mention whether they could continue fighting, they should also think about what to do after returning to Chongshan Pass.

“Since that’s the case, don’t blame this official for enforcing military law!” Cao Han raised his long saber, aiming at Yang Zhenshan.

Yang Zhenshan’s heart tightened, this blockhead really wanted to make a move.

He was indeed a bit worried.

The northern barbarian’s pursuers could arrive at any moment, if they really ended up fighting, wouldn’t they just be handing victory to the northern barbarians on a silver platter.

At this moment, Yang Zhenshan’s heart was also filled with annoyance.

When facing the northern barbarians, they all acted like timid brides, not daring to move.

But when dealing with their own people, they were as arrogant and domineering as can be.

No wonder Chongshan Town was defeated so swiftly; if the officials of Chongshan Town were all like this, it would be strange if they didn’t lose.

Just as Yang Zhenshan was preparing to face off, a thunderous rumble like rolling thunder of horse hooves came from behind.

“Sir, General Zhou has arrived!”

“General Zhou has arrived!”

Shouts of cheer rose from behind.

Yang Zhenshan heard this and also breathed a sigh of relief. He discreetly looked back, only to see the flag of Left Camp fluttering amidst the swirling dust.

But Cao Han’s expression turned sour.

Zhou Lan!

That was someone he couldn’t afford to provoke.

As a noble, he understood the power of Duke Ning Mansion better than others, as well as Zhou Lan’s status within Duke Ning Mansion.

Although Zhou Lan was a woman, and had a notorious reputation in the Capital City for being tough on men, she was the precious gem of the old Duke of the Duke Ning Mansion.

The third young mistress of Duke Ning Mansion, who had been pampered since childhood, saying she was adored was no exaggeration.

Flags flying, Zhou Lan led nearly a thousand cavalry across the river in mere moments.

Rustle-rustle~~

The dark horses neighed, Zhou Lan coolly stopped outside the grain transport.

Her sharp eyes swept around, finally landing on Cao Han.

“Cao Han, what are you doing here?”

At these words, Cao Han, like a cat whose tail was stepped on, angrily yelled, “Zhou Lan, how many times have I told you, don’t call me by my nickname!”

In ancient society, the infant mortality rate was very high, and many people were superstitious that lesser names helped in raising them.

Not just ordinary folk, even nobles and distinguished families were no exception.

The current Marquis Qingyang’s nickname was Big Head, thus Mr. Cao naturally became Cao Han.

“Get lost if there’s nothing! You’re a sore sight here!” Zhou Lan said with utter disdain, as if looking at a fly.

“You!”

Cao Han was furious, lifting his saber towards Zhou Lan.

He was just annoyed and didn’t really intend to do anything to Zhou Lan, but his action of raising the saber, in the eyes of others, seemed like a challenge to Zhou Lan.

Swish-swish~~

Zhou Lan wasn’t alone, behind her were nearly a thousand cavalry of the Left Camp.

Seeing Cao Han raise his saber, the cavalrymen immediately took out bows and arrows from their saddles, drew bows and aimed arrows straight at Cao Han.

Under the brilliant sun, the arrow light glittered, twinkling like spikes, shimmering like the light on the waves.

Cao Han was instantly deflated.

Silently put away the long saber, not daring to speak another word, he quickly spurred his horse and left.

Damn it, with hundreds of arrows aimed at him, how could he dare to say another word?

That twinkling arrow light thoroughly extinguished the rage in his heart.
