Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 82: Chapter 81 Lv Hua, Secret Martial Guards

Yang Zhenshan abruptly stood up, walked to the door, and gazed into the sky.

Boom Boom Boom~~

Thick clouds rolled in from the southeast, accompanied by sullen thunder.

Streaks of lightning flashed across the clouds, which, like billowing smoke, quickly spread above Yang Zhenshan’s head.

”It’s really going to rain!”

Yang Minghao’s eyes nearly popped out in surprise.

Yang Zhenshan squinted his eyes.

His feeling was real.

Could he actually sense changes in the weather?

Did he possess the ability to forecast the weather?

Yang Zhenshan was both shocked and delighted; overjoyed about the impending rain and surprised by his own unique ability.

Whoosh Whoosh Whoosh~~

The heavy rain started pouring down in an instant, with large raindrops hitting the ground and quickly soaking it.

A chorus of cheers erupted within the garrison, with many children running around joyfully.

”It’s raining, it’s raining, sir, it’s raining!”

The women who prepared their meals called out somewhat hysterically.

The soldiers from the Front Office also ran to report the good news, though there was no need—they knew Yang Zhenshan was neither deaf nor blind.

So many people had long been awaiting this rain.

Yang Zhenshan stood under the eaves, stroking his beard and smiling at the downpour.

Whoosh Whoosh Whoosh~~

The rain formed a curtain, completely extinguishing the swelter that had lasted for months.

At that moment, Yang Zhenshan felt this rain would be heavy and would completely resolve the drought in Chongshan Town.

...

Inside Chongshan Pass City.

In the Governor’s Office, Lu Chongde looked at the torrential rain and let out a heavy sigh of relief.

”It’s finally raining!”

After the defeat of Chongshan Town and his hurried assignment as the new Governor, he had taken on the task in times of crisis.

Before arriving, he had already anticipated that Chongshan Town would be a challenging situation, but only upon arrival did he discover that it was far more troublesome than he had imagined.

He faced not only the threat from the Hu Clan beyond the pass, but also a drought that had persisted for months.

Most importantly, he inherited a decrepit mess that had declined for over a decade.

In the month since he arrived at the fort, he hadn’t received a single piece of good news. Today’s rain was the happiest day since he took office.

”My Lord, it seems the heavens still care for us!”

Lu Chongde’s staff member, Yuan He, came to his side, speaking with bright eyes.

”Yes, if it didn’t rain any longer, I would have been at a loss!”

Lu Chongde turned and walked into his study, pulling out a document from his desk.

”With this rain, the timing is also right. Go make the arrangements.”

He handed the document to Yuan He.

Yuan He took it and glanced at it before asking in a lowered voice, ”Shouldn’t we discuss it with Marquis Changping first?”

”No need to discuss. He will understand my intentions!” Lu Chongde said lightly.

Both he and Marquis Changping Liang Chu did not arrive at Chongshan Town empty-handed; Liang Chu brought five thousand Yunlong Dragon Guards while he brought eight thousand Cavalry horses and a large quantity of armaments.

Military degradation in Chongshan Town had been ongoing for a long time, and with the East Sea Hu Clan rising once again, the court had decided to revitalize Chongshan Town.

Their primary mission this time was to restore Chongshan Town to its state from twenty years prior.

These horses and armaments were the foundation of his plan to revitalize Chongshan Town.

The content in the document was concerning the distribution of the horses and armaments.

He couldn’t hand all the horses and armaments over to Liang Chu because he knew if Liang Chu got them, they would undoubtedly be used on the Five Camps.

The Five Camps were only part of Chongshan Town. He wanted to strengthen the entirety of Chongshan Town, not just the Five Camps.

Therefore, he had distributed the horses and armaments to various guards.

As for the Five Camps’ need for horses and armaments, that was a matter for Liang Chu to worry about.

Though this action might make Liang Chu somewhat unhappy, he believed Liang Chu would understand his intentions.

...

The heavy rain lasted day and night, but regrettably, it came too late. With the harvest season approaching, rain now could no longer make up for the crop yield.

After the rain, Yang Zhenshan began organizing the military households within the garrison to start the autumn harvest. Regardless of the yield, the wheat in the fields must be harvested.

But this time, during the harvest, there was not much joy on people’s faces.

The yield was too low.

The farmlands at Yinghe Castle were of good quality, yet on average each acre produced less than a hundred catties of crops. The results from Linguan Castle were even more ridiculous; getting forty to fifty catties per acre was already considered very good.

Moreover, half of the harvest from these farmlands went to the garrison, meaning military households would only get a few dozen catties of grain per acre.

Standing in front of the garrison gate, watching the busy military households in the fields, Yang Zhenshan’s thoughts were on making a trip to Jianning Guard to ”raise wind” for the autumn.

This year’s harvest definitely could not meet the needs of the military households, and besides, he was about to start troop training. Training not only consumed grains but also meat, and it would cost a hefty sum of Silver.

He had to get some grain to ensure the daily needs of the military households and the training needs of the soldiers.

”Dad, we can go now!” Yang Mingzhi came over and softly said.

Yang Zhenshan turned his head and saw ten soldiers leading horses had already arrived behind him, waiting for his command.

These soldiers were not from Linguan Castle but were elite Cavalry selected from Yinghe Castle, Sanshan Castle, and Xiangyuan Fortress.

Out of the three garrisons, more than twenty forts, and signal towers, only these ten elite Cavalry were selected.

It wasn’t that Yang Zhenshan looked down on the other soldiers; there was simply no choice.

The ordinary soldiers couldn’t even get enough food, let alone practice Martial Arts.

That he could select ten capable Scouts from more than four hundred soldiers was already satisfying to Yang Zhenshan.
