Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure

Just then, the sound of a fierce wind howling came from outside the cave.

”Looks like the wind is picking up.”

Perry Yates glanced outside before quickly looking away. ’I’m so glad I found this cave ahead of time,’ she thought, feeling a wave of relief. ’Forget making it to the twentieth day of the game; in this weather, I would’ve been blown away long ago.’

She turned around and looked at the burning fire.

A small pot was set up over the fire, and a pork rib soup was bubbling away inside. Puffs of white steam rose from it, and the fragrant aroma filled the entire cave.

The Little Ferret stood guard by Perry Yates’s side, its eyes glued to the pork rib soup in the pot.

”SQUEAK SQUEAK.”

The Little Ferret pointed at the soup and squeaked.

”Just a little longer. It’ll be ready soon.”

Beneath the fire, two roasted marrow bones were sizzling as the fat rendered.

”These should be done. Let’s eat them first.”

She had already used Ascension on the bones before roasting them, so they weren’t greasy at all. It was like eating steamed egg custard.

Paired with the fragrant pork rib soup, the girl and the Ferret ate with great satisfaction.

After eating and drinking its fill, the Little Ferret followed Perry Yates into the tent and fell into a blissful sleep.

A slight smile touched her lips as she watched the Little Ferret curled up in a ball in the corner.

Just then, a sudden noise came from outside, instantly waking the sleeping Little Ferret.

It first looked around nervously, only lying back down after confirming that its location was safe.

From the Little Ferret’s reaction, Perry Yates could tell that something must have happened outside to make it so tense.

Perry Yates looked outside using her X-ray vision. She didn’t see anything unusual—just wind and snow... Wait, there was something.

In the dark, snowy night, Perry saw a gold-and-red treasure box buried under the snow a few hundred meters away. It was particularly conspicuous in the darkness.

Seeing this, Perry Yates subconsciously started to get up, but she quickly stopped and sat back down.

’Better not,’ she thought. ’The weather outside is just too dangerous right now. Who knows what dangers I might encounter, or if I’d even be able to make it back. Safety is more important at a time like this.’

’So, I’d better just lie low.’

’It’s just one gold-and-red treasure box. Just one four-star card or maybe two or three three-star cards. It’s no big deal if I miss out.’

With that thought, Perry Yates yawned, pulled the Little Ferret into her arms, and closed her eyes, drifting off into a deep sleep.

The Little Ferret sensed the movement, and upon seeing it was Perry Yates, it let her hold it and went back to sleep.

While things were peaceful and serene for Perry Yates, the other players didn’t share her self-control.

That night, gold-and-red treasure boxes appeared before many players.

As the highest tier of all treasure boxes, one could only imagine how rare the gold-and-red ones were.

Even with the blizzard raging outside, some people still rushed out of their shelters the moment they saw the gold-and-red glow.

However, just as they neared the location of the gold-and-red light, a dark shadow suddenly swooped down from the sky and snatched a player right up.

Immediately after, a blood-curdling scream echoed from the sky, and then... there was nothing.

The same scene played out in different locations.

By now, only two types of people remained in the game: veterans who had experienced several games and possessed a certain degree of strength, or those with little strength but who were so lucky that they had gained too much to be willing to give it all up.

In this situation, unless they were like Perry Yates, who truly had something to rely on, very few people chose to act alone. Most of them banded together for warmth and safety.

So, after seeing the fate of their comrades, those who had been tempted by the gold-and-red treasure box felt as if a bucket of cold water had been thrown on them. They realized it wasn’t a treasure box at all—it was a death warrant.

「The twentieth day of the game.」

The gold-and-red treasure box was still outside, flashing faintly as if trying to lure someone in.

Too bad it had encountered someone with a heart of stone.

After breakfast, Perry Yates returned to her tent. She laid out several treasure boxes in front of her, and beside them were all the cards she had taken from her Card Storage Device.

Since she had plenty of time, she decided to do a detailed sorting of all the cards in her possession.

She had a total of seven five-star cards. Besides the previous The Nameless Bar, there was also Spiritual Spring, which restores energy and stamina, heals injuries, and can alter and strengthen one’s constitution with long-term consumption. Next was Teleportation Gate, which allows travel to any previously visited location. There was also a Butler card, granting a perfect and absolutely loyal butler who can accomplish anything. Then came Phantom Street, a street that can only be entered by those who meet certain conditions. The Knowledge Crystal provides clues and hints when asked a question. Finally, there was the Life Flower; planting it creates a special life Domain where any injury or illness can be cured.

She put these cards back into the Card Storage Device. These were five-star cards; there was absolutely no room for error.

Next were the four-star cards.

The four-star cards were divided into item cards and Skill Cards.

Perry Yates put these cards into the Card Storage Device as well.

Although four-star cards weren’t as precious as five-star ones, they weren’t something just anyone could afford.

In Perry Yates’s opinion, besides the officials, probably very few people could afford a four-star card.

’I’ll wait until the bar opens, then I can use these cards as a backdrop to show off my strength to the customers.’

Then came the three-star, two-star, one-star, and White Cards.

Perry Yates spent the entire morning completely sorting and categorizing all these cards.

Among the White Cards, aside from item cards, Perry Yates also separated out another category, which she named Resource Cards.

This was because these cards were all various types of Healing Potions, and there was even Genetic Medicine.

From the collection, she also picked out quite a few card-based items that could be placed in the bar.

For example, motion-sensing lights, geothermal heating, floating wine glasses, and so on...

These cards might not be very useful in the game since they had no attack power, but they would be extremely popular in the real world.

The majority of the rest would be sold as merchandise, so Perry Yates sorted them according to their abilities.

After categorizing all the cards, Perry Yates began the next phase of her work.

After all, barring any surprises, she would be staying here for the next few days. As the saying goes, she might as well do something since she was idle anyway.
