Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1438: 1437 explanation

The next day, Bai Yiyi got up early to prepare breakfast for her mother and Tongtong. After having breakfast with them, she received a call from Jing Xiaocha.

“Xiaocha, wait at home, I’ll come to pick you up.”

After arranging with Jing Xiaocha, Bai Yiyi told her mother that she had something to attend to and would be going out, asking her to take care of Tongtong.

“Yiyi, are you going to see Fang Zhiwei?”

Bai Yuqin was still worried about what Bai Yiyi said last night, fearing she might foolishly delay marrying Gu Kai because of Fang Zhiwei.

She admitted that she was somewhat selfish, but for her daughter’s happiness, Bai Yuqin was willing to be a little selfish.

Bai Yiyi smiled and denied it, “Mom, I’m not going to see Fang Zhiwei, I’m going to meet a friend.”

After Bai Yiyi left, Bai Yuqin hesitated for a few minutes, put a jacket on Tongtong, and took her to Xiu Chen’s house.

Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran were not home, and it was Nanny Zhang who invited Bai Yuqin into the living room.

Bai Yiyi picked up Jing Xiaocha, and they arrived at the nursing home at nine in the morning.

Sunlight filtered through the treetops by the roadside, casting a dappled scene on the ground. Though there was a breeze, it didn’t feel cold against the face.

The consecutive days of clear weather gave people the impression that spring had arrived early.

“Sister Yiyi, let’s go.”

Jing Xiaocha smiled at Bai Yiyi and led the way.

She often visited the nursing home and easily found her way to Grandma Li’s room. Before knocking, Jing Xiaocha leaned in to listen briefly.

She pushed the door open, and Grandma Li, who was standing by the window, turned her head with delight, “Xiaocha… and who is this?”

Seeing Bai Yiyi enter with her, a trace of surprise and unvoiced disappointment flashed through Grandma Li’s eyes.

Earlier, she thought it was Fang Zhiwei coming to see her.

Jing Xiaocha cheerfully went over to support Grandma Li, saying lightly, “Grandma Li, let me introduce you. This is Sister Yiyi, whom I mentioned to you before.”

Bai Yiyi was slightly surprised upon hearing this.

Jing Xiaocha had mentioned her to Grandma Li?

A smile re-emerged on Grandma Li’s wrinkled face. Supported by Jing Xiaocha, she warmly greeted Bai Yiyi, “Please sit, Miss Bai.”

“Xiaocha has already told me about you. She said you’ve been very kind to her. This child has had a hard life but is stronger than most girls.”

“Grandma Li, just call me Yiyi.”

Bai Yiyi sat down and spoke politely.

Grandma Li nodded, “Alright, I will call you Yiyi.” After speaking, she turned to Jing Xiaocha and asked, “Xiaocha, why didn’t Zhiwei come with you? By the way, Yiyi, do you know Zhiwei?”

Bai Yiyi’s eyes flickered slightly, but she maintained her smile, “Grandma Li, I do know Sister Wei. When I heard from Xiaocha last night that you are Sister Wei’s grandmother, I was curious and wanted to come.”

When Grandma Li mentioned her granddaughter, her smile became radiant, “You know Zhiwei too?”

“Grandma Li, Sister Yiyi knew Sister Wei even before I did. I’ve only known Sister Wei for a few days.” Jing Xiaocha’s words made Grandma Li’s eyes light up, filled with an eagerness to hear more about her granddaughter from Bai Yiyi.

Bai Yiyi noticed Grandma Li’s excitement, and her throat inexplicably felt a bit dry. The words she intended to say suddenly hesitated.

Grandma Li had searched for decades without finding her daughter, and only recently found her granddaughter. The excitement of reunion had not yet settled, and yet she was about to hear that Fang Zhiwei was depressed and obsessed with an unrequited love…

Wouldn’t that be too cruel?

“Yiyi, how long have you known Zhiwei?”

Faced with the enthusiastic Grandma Li, Bai Yiyi slightly lowered her gaze, avoiding eye contact, and smiled, “Grandma Li, I’ve known Sister Wei for almost two years now.”

When she met Fang Zhiwei, she was Gu Kai’s girlfriend.

Now, she herself was Gu Kai’s girlfriend.

“Then, Yiyi, can you tell me, does Zhiwei have a boyfriend now, and is she truly happy?”

Upon hearing that Bai Yiyi had known Fang Zhiwei for nearly two years, Grandma Li’s eyes grew even brighter.

She just wanted to know more about her granddaughter but didn’t realize she was asking a question that made Bai Yiyi awkward.

Jing Xiaocha also blinked in surprise, looking toward Bai Yiyi.

Bai Yiyi’s mind raced swiftly, and after a moment, she softly said, “Grandma Li, you’ve only recently reunited with Sister Wei. Some things I shouldn’t tell you to prevent worry. But I heard from Xiaocha that you are a very kind person.”

Grandma Li’s smile gradually faded at Bai Yiyi’s words, replaced by concern.

“Yiyi, speak directly. I am Zhiwei’s grandmother, and no matter what you say about her, you can tell me.”

She spent a lifetime searching for her daughter and never saw her once. Now that she finally found her granddaughter, of course, she hopes for her granddaughter’s happiness.

“Grandma Li, don’t worry. Let Sister Yiyi explain it slowly to you. It’s not something that can be explained briefly.”

Jing Xiaocha poured a glass of water for each of them and stood behind Grandma Li, gently massaging her shoulders as usual.

“Sister Wei once had a boyfriend who was an outstanding doctor.” Bai Yiyi took a few seconds to gather her thoughts before speaking slowly.

Grandma Li listened intently to Bai Yiyi’s narration.

“… Later, they broke up.” Bai Yiyi paused briefly before continuing, “Three years ago, because of an accident, I had a one-night stand with Gu Kai. Later, Gu Kai found out that my daughter was his child…”

Grandma Li frowned slightly.

“Last year, someone deliberately stirred things up, saying I destroyed the relationship between Sister Wei and Gu Kai, but Sister Wei didn’t believe those rumors. She even attended a press conference with us. But three months ago, someone sent Sister Wei some photos and a very nasty letter in my name.”

“Let me continue; I know about that incident.” Jing Xiaocha eased her shoulder massaging and took over Bai Yiyi’s recount, “Sister Fang’s father, Professor Fang, was so shocked by the letter and photos that he passed away despite rescue efforts. Since then, Sister Fang resented both Doctor Gu and Sister Yiyi.”

“So, Zhiwei now has no parents and is all alone?”

Grandma Li’s eyes were filled with a deep compassion for her granddaughter.

“Yes.”

Bai Yiyi nodded, pressing her lips together, and continued, “Grandma Li, although Sister Wei resents me for Professor Fang’s death, I have always regarded her as a friend. Not only me but many others too. We all hope Sister Wei finds happiness.”

“Are the many people you mentioned the good people Xiaocha told me about before?”

Grandma Li raised her head to look at Jing Xiaocha.

Jing Xiaocha immediately replied, “Yes, Grandma Li, they are Brother Wen, Sister Wen, and others I mentioned before. Sister Fang has been spending time with all of us during the days around the New Year.”
