Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1408: 1407 jumped off the building

For Wen Jin, this year’s Spring Festival felt much quieter compared to last year.

But for Gu Kai, it carried a weight of concern he didn’t have during last year’s Spring Festival. Last year, he spent it abroad.

At that time, because he didn’t want to marry Fang Zhiwei, he broke up with her and left the country.

After spending over half a year abroad and returning in the past few months, he didn’t expect his life to undergo so many changes. When he thought of what Bai Yiyi had said in the car—”As long as you don’t marry, I won’t leave G City”—his previously calm mind stirred, as though a gentle breeze had set ripples across a still lake.

Because Wen Ran and Mo Xiuchen had taken their three children on vacation, and since this was Qin Mu and An Lin’s first Spring Festival as newlyweds, they had gone back to A City to celebrate with their parents. Meanwhile, Luo Haofeng was in City C.

In this group, the only ones remaining in G City were him and Wen Jin.

On New Year’s Eve, Gu Yan called to invite Wen Jin to have New Year’s Eve dinner at the Gu Family’s residence. Jing Xiaocha, understanding the situation, politely excused herself, saying she had something else to do and didn’t accompany Wen Jin.

Before the meal began, Wen Ran’s call came through.

After speaking with Gu Yan, Gu Kai, and Wen Jin in turn, Wen Ran said a few words to Tongtong before finally hanging up.

“Tongtong, do you want to give your mom a call?”

Gu Kai noticed Tongtong staring longingly at the phone. A faint smile appeared on his handsome face as he asked gently.

“Okay.”

Hearing the mention of “mom,” Tongtong’s eyes instantly lit up with excitement, and she responded enthusiastically and brightly.

“Use the method Dad taught you to call Mom,” Gu Kai said warmly, noticing Tongtong’s excitement. A wave of complex emotions passed through his heart.

Tongtong used the voice-dialing method he had taught her earlier and called Bai Yiyi’s number.

After a few rings, Bai Yiyi’s voice came through the phone. Upon hearing her mom’s voice, Tongtong was even happier, her young voice ringing out as she called sweetly, “Mom!”

Then she turned her head to look at Gu Kai.

“Tell your mom ‘Happy New Year,ʼ” Wen Jin suggested in a soft, smiling voice from the side, teaching Tongtong what to say.

Tongtong blinked and repeated after him, “Mom, Happy New Year.”

After saying it, she giggled to herself.

“Tongtong, Happy New Year!”

Bai Yiyi’s gentle voice came through the phone, overflowing with a mother’s love.

“Mom, Tongtong misses you.” This was Tongtong’s favorite thing to say when calling—she missed her mom.

Even though it had only been two days since she parted with her mom, she already missed her deeply. As soon as she said this, on the other end of the line, Bai Yiyi’s heart tightened, and a flood of longing for her daughter surged through her.

This kind of longing was something only a mother could understand—it was a unique kind of bond and concern.

“Tongtong, Mom misses you too. Be good and listen to Dad and Grandpa, okay?” Bai Yiyi’s voice rang out tenderly through the phone as she advised. Tongtong nodded on the other side of the line.

“Tongtong, your mom can’t see you nodding.” Wen Jin chuckled as he noticed Tongtong nodding her head. “Let your dad talk to your mom.”

As he finished speaking, his own phone suddenly rang.

Wen Jin took out his phone, walked a few steps away from the couch, and picked up the call. “Hello, Zhiyan.”

“Ah Jin, I tried calling Ah Kai, but his line is busy. Are you with him right now?” Lu Zhiyan’s anxious voice came over the line. Wen Jin’s expression shifted slightly as he frowned and asked, “Ah Kai is here. What’s the matter?”

“Tell him to come to the commercial center quickly. Fang Zhiwei is on the rooftop and about to jump…”

Hearing this, Wen Jin’s face went pale. He turned to look at Gu Kai.

On the couch, Gu Kai had just taken the phone from Tongtong to speak with Bai Yiyi, but before he could say anything, he heard Wen Jin mention his name, prompting him to look over.

“Ah Jin, what’s going on?”

Through the phone, Lu Zhiyan’s shouts pleading with Fang Zhiwei could be heard clearly. Wen Jin furrowed his brows even deeper before stepping forward and snatching the phone out of Gu Kai’s hand, cutting off his call with Bai Yiyi. “Fang Zhiwei is threatening to jump. Zhiyan says you need to go over there immediately.”

“Ah Jin, did you just say Fang Zhiwei wants to jump off a building?”

Seated on the adjacent couch, Gu Yan, who had been quietly watching TV and had not yet intervened in the conversation, immediately raised his head in concern upon hearing that. He looked at Wen Jin with worry.

Wen Jin nodded. “Uncle Gu, Fang Zhiwei might be suffering from depression. Ah Kai, are you going to go?”

“She’s about to jump off; of course, I’ll go. We can’t let this turn fatal.” A shadow crossed Gu Kai’s handsome face. “Dad, you and Tongtong go ahead and have dinner without us.”

After speaking, he turned to Wen Jin, said “Let’s go,” and quickly headed for the entryway.

“Dad, Uncle.”

On the couch, the young and confused Tongtong blinked her big, innocent eyes, staring at Gu Kai and Wen Jin as they hurriedly put on their coats and left.

Gu Yan frowned slightly, then moved to sit beside Tongtong and comforted her. “Tongtong, Dad and Uncle have something to do. Let’s go eat dinner instead.”

“Oh.”

Tongtong pouted slightly, her voice tinged with disappointment, but she ultimately said no more.

Once the Maybach was on the road, Wen Jin, seated in the passenger seat, took out his phone and dialed Jing Xiaocha’s number. While waiting for her to pick up, he explained to Gu Kai, who was driving:

“Yesterday, Jing Xiaocha had a good chat with Fang Zhiwei. I’ll call her now and ask her to rush over and see if she can help.”

“Alright, go ahead and call her. Jing Xiaocha’s quick thinking might actually come in handy,” Gu Kai replied with a nod, though he held a hint of irritation. Gripping the steering wheel tightly, his fingers pressed down with excessive force.

If Fang Zhiwei weren’t threatening to jump, he wouldn’t have wanted to come at all.

The other day, Fang Zhiwei had directly asked Ranran if he could accompany her for treatment—it was a sign she wasn’t over him yet. Showing up in front of her tonight might just lead her to make another unreasonable demand.

“Brother Wen, Happy New Year!”

When the call connected, Jing Xiaocha’s cheerful voice carried through. From the background, Wen Jin could hear the faint but merry laughter of elderly folks, causing a trace of doubt to appear in his expression. “Xiaocha, where are you?”

“Oh, I’m at an orphanage, spending New Year’s with some elderly grandmas.”

“An orphanage? Can you come back right now? No, you need to get back as soon as possible—Fang Zhiwei is threatening to jump off a building…”

Wen Jin wasn’t making a request but giving an order.

Hearing that Fang Zhiwei wanted to jump, Jing Xiaocha ignored his authoritative tone and immediately agreed. “Alright, I’ll think of a way and head over right now.”

“Good, hurry.”

With another call coming in, Wen Jin ended the call swiftly after speaking.

By the time they arrived at the scene, a large crowd had gathered beneath the building. The police had also just arrived and were busy setting up an air cushion. Up on the rooftop, Fang Zhiwei sat near the edge. She was seated sideways, so for now, as long as she didn’t move in agitation, she wasn’t immediately in danger.

Lu Zhiyan stood three meters away from her, his arm extended as he tried to coax her. His gaze was fixed on Fang Zhiwei, and his voice was soft as he urged, “Zhiwei, let’s talk this over. Come down first.”

“Don’t come any closer!”

Fang Zhiwei glared at him angrily and shouted, “Lu Zhiyan, if you take even one more step, I’ll jump! I told you—I don’t want you interfering. Just go!”
