Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1435: I don’t want to get you involved

“Yeah, I really need to thank Xiaocha. Didn’t I tell you before that my mom was always trying to find her relatives? She searched for so many years with no result. But instead, I found my grandma…”

Fang Zhiwei said excitedly over the phone about how happy she was, seemingly wanting to share all her joy with Gu Kai.

Bai Yiyi lowered her eyes, picked up a glass of water from the coffee table, took a sip, and as she put the glass down, she heard Gu Kai interrupt Fang Zhiwei, “Zhiwei, it’s getting late. You should rest early. I have a surgery tomorrow and need to sleep too.”

“Okay, Ah Kai, when you have time, please accompany me to see Grandma. Also, I have something I need your help with.”

“What is it?”

There was a hint of confusion in Gu Kai’s eyes as he asked calmly.

“I want Grandma to live with me. Ah Kai, when you have time, could you come with me to bring Grandma over?”

“Let’s talk about it tomorrow. You should rest early.”

“Alright, I’ll call you tomorrow. Good night.”

After hanging up, Gu Kai said to Lu Zhiyan, “Fang Zhiwei wants her grandma to move in with her. Please check on it tomorrow and accompany her to bring her grandma over.”

That meant Lu Zhiyan was to take care of the matter.

“Alright.”

Though Lu Zhiyan was somewhat reluctant, he had agreed to help Gu Kai.

With a slight press of his thin lips, he added, “I want to visit the psychology clinic that Fang Zhiwei previously attended to understand her condition better, so she can get treatment.”

“You might not get much information even if you go. The clinic keeps patient information confidential.”

Gu Kai slightly furrowed his brows, not optimistic about Lu Zhiyan’s suggestion.

Bai Yiyi interjected, “Last time, I happened to run into Fang Zhiwei at the intersection near that psychology clinic. After she left, I went in to ask, but they wouldn’t tell me anything.”

“Which clinic?”

Lu Zhiyan’s lips curled into a confident smile.

Seeing his seemingly determined attitude, Bai Yiyi had no choice but to tell Lu Zhiyan the clinic’s name.

“Sister Yiyi, since Sister Fang wants to bring Grandma Li to her house, let’s go visit Grandma Li tomorrow. I suspect Sister Fang will call Doctor Gu tomorrow, and before that, she probably won’t go to the nursing home.”

“Alright.”

Bai Yiyi glanced at Gu Kai and agreed softly.

After chatting for a few more minutes, seeing that it was getting late, Lu Zhiyan left with Jing Xiaocha.

Once they left, the atmosphere in the living room immediately quieted down.

“Yiyi, are you really going to meet Fang Zhiwei’s grandma?”

Gu Kai asked with concern. He didn’t actually want to involve Bai Yiyi.

Bai Yiyi was determined. Facing his concerned eyes, she reassured him with a smile, “Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing. I’ve heard Xiacha say that Grandma Li is a sensible lady. I really want to meet her. No matter how it is, Fang Zhiwei dated you, and her father donated himself to medical science. I know you wish for her to let go of her feelings towards you…”

Listening to her, a gentle warmth rose in Gu Kai’s heart. He tenderly grabbed her soft hand, his eyes filled with gentle warmth, “Yiyi, thank you for thinking of me, but I don’t want to involve you.”

“I’m already involved.”

Bai Yiyi’s smile carried a hint of self-mockery, “Whether you want it or not, Professor Fang’s death has been blamed on both of us by Fang Zhiwei. To be precise, she should hate me, not you.”

Gu Kai frowned, his expression turning solemn, “If that’s the case, then I really can’t let you get involved. As for Fang Zhiwei, let’s leave her to Lu Zhiyan. He agreed to help her.”

“Ah Kai, I’ve already decided. You don’t need to worry about it, nor try to persuade me.”

Bai Yiyi’s attitude was firm. She wanted to be with the man in front of her but didn’t want to carry any more guilt or burden.

Therefore, she wished to resolve the resentment in Fang Zhiwei’s heart and help her let go of those unworthy sentiments towards Gu Kai.

“Alright, then go to the nursing home with Jing Xiaocha tomorrow. Remember to call me immediately if anything happens.”

Bai Yiyi nodded slightly, withdrawing her hand, “You should head back now, it’s getting late. I want to go to the nursing home early tomorrow.”

Gu Kai chuckled lightly, “Alright, I’m heading home.”

While speaking, he took out a tube of ointment he had just put in the drawer, placed it in Bai Yiyi’s hand, and leaned over to kiss her. Only when she was breathless did he reluctantly let her go.

Reluctantly licking his sensual thin lips, he huskily reminded, “Yiyi, remember to apply the ointment after your shower.”

“You should leave now.”

Mentioning the ointment, Bai Yiyi’s face, already flushed from his kiss, turned even redder, her eyes flaring up with slight anger.

Seeing her this way, a certain impulse surged in Gu Kai’s heart again. A dark sheen flashed through his eyes as he suppressed his thoughts and stood up, “Yiyi, good night.”

“Good night.”

Bai Yiyi saw him to the door, only closing it after watching him leave.

Leaning against the door, she cupped her blushing cheeks, her heart still racing from the kiss.

Yet thinking of Gu Kai made her heart overflow with a sweet, honeyed feeling.

Only once she heard Gu Kai driving away did she go upstairs to take a shower and sleep.

***

In a villa thousands of miles away.

After finishing a call with Jing Xiaocha, Wen Ran was held tightly in Mo Xiuchen’s arms, his mature and pleasant masculine scent wafting into her senses.

“Ranran, time to sleep.”

Mo Xiuchen was unhappy with how long Wen Ran talked with Jing Xiaocha. Given her special condition these days, she should be sleeping early.

Wen Ran reached out to touch his pretentiously annoyed handsome face. “Xiuchen, are you mad at me?”

Her eyebrows and eyes were filled with laughter, and Xiuchen’s angry look was so handsome too.

“I’m mad. Next time you don’t listen, I’ll hang up your phone directly.” Mo Xiuchen said he was angry, but his features betrayed him, softening into a gentle expression at Wen Ran’s bright and gentle smile.

“There won’t be a next time. I only talked a bit longer with Xiaocha tonight because of special circumstances, right?”

“No special circumstances allowed. No excuses. Get to sleep now.”

Mo Xiuchen domineeringly made her lie flat, covered her with the quilt, and leaned in to plant a kiss on her lips, softly commanding, “Close your eyes.”

Wen Ran gently laughed and was about to comply when her phone suddenly rang.

She reflexively glanced at the small table beside the bed, “Xiuchen…”

“Sleep. I’ll answer it for you.” In an instant, her eyes were covered by Mo Xiuchen’s well-defined hand as he reached over to pick up the phone. Seeing the caller ID, his eyebrows knitted slightly.

“Xiuchen, who’s calling?” Wen Ran asked concernedly, as if she could see Mo Xiuchen’s furrowed brow through the hand covering her eyes.
