The air in the corridor seems to have frozen for a moment!

In front of the ward, Wen Jin’s gaze has not moved from Wen Ran since the moment he saw her. Even with her light makeup, it couldn’t conceal her swollen eyes, the result of a sleepless night, and her overall fatigued and haggard appearance, all apparent on her delicate and fair face.

Seeing her like this tore at Wen Jin’s heart.

No matter what thoughts he had in the past, from beginning to end, he had always loved her as a brother, unable to bear the sight of her suffering or shedding even a single tear.

When Gu Kai called him in the morning to tell him that Ranran had found out the truth, accidentally overhearing Mo Xiuchen’s phone conversation, his heart has been hanging heavily ever since, unable to find peace.

While looking at her, Wen Ran suddenly tears up.

Next to her, Mo Xiuchen, who has been paying close attention to her, tightens his grip on her hand and calls out to her in distress: “Ranran!”

Wen Ran pressed her lips tight, took a deep breath, and looked up at Mo Xiuchen saying, “I want to talk to my brother alone.”

Mo Xiuchen stiffened briefly, feeling a loss at being pushed out of her world. He forced a smile, nodded at her, and comforted her: “I’ll be waiting outside for you.”

Wen Ran let go of his hand and walked towards Wen Jin.

“Brother!”

The short distance felt so long for Wen Ran. She stopped a couple of steps away from Wen Jin, mustered a smile, and greeted him as usual.

However, despite her best effort, there was a noticeable difference in her voice.

Wen Jin’s eyes roiled with emotion as he replied with a fond smile, “Let’s talk inside first.”

“Brother, I’ll push you.”

Wen Ran assisted Wen Jin onto the wheelchair and into his ward. As they entered, Mo Xiuchen watched from the corridor, only pulling out his cell phone to make a call after the door closed behind them.

The atmosphere inside the ward was somewhat strange.

Wen Ran pushed Wen Jin to the bed and helped him onto it before she sat down in a chair nearby.

“Ranran, I’ve heard that you know everything.”

After a moment of silence, Wen Jin broached the subject. As he did, Wen Ran bit her lip harder. For some reason, her brother’s simple words caused a sour sensation in her nose and her eyes to swell up.

Her vision gradually blurred.

She didn’t think of herself as a girl prone to tears, but the thought of not being his real sister, not being their parents’ daughter, made her so sad she couldn’t control herself.

Looking at her grief and restraint, Wen Jin felt as though his heart had been ruthlessly ripped apart. With a tender pain in his voice, he reassured her: “Ranran, no matter who you are, you’ll always be my sister, Wen Jin’s sister, and the princess most loved by our parents. That will never change.”

At his words, Wen Ran could not hold back her tears anymore; they rolled down her cheeks. Choking back sobs, she said, “Brother, you shouldn’t be this good to me.”

If he had not been so good to her, he might not have nearly lost his life in the car accident trying to save hers. He would have been able to move freely.

Before, she did not know the truth and felt incredibly guilty. Now, knowing her true origins, her guilt had intensified a hundred, a thousand, ten thousand times.

How could she ever repay her parents for their kindness in raising her? How could she ever be deserving of her brother’s protection and care?

Wen Jin sighed gently, leaning him to wipe her tears: “Silly girl, if I don’t take care of you, my own sister, who should I care for? Tell me, now that you know your real identity, you don’t want me to be your brother anymore?”

Wen Ran shook her head violently, her teary eyes fixed on his: “No, I’ll always be your sister. Forever and ever.”

How could she ever give up such a wonderful brother?

“Then listen to your brother, stop crying, and don’t be sad. Gu Kai called me early in the morning to tell me that you discovered your identity last night from overhearing Mo Xiuchen’s conversation with him. You were so emotional at the time, he must not have explained everything properly to you.”

Wen Jin withdrew his hand and handed Wen Ran a tissue before, looking at her tenderly.

Wen Ran wiped her tears away and said with a choked voice, “I won’t cry. Brother, you go on, I’m listening.”

She knew that her brother could clear the puzzles in her heart. She tried to control her emotions and sat quietly, listening to Wen Jin: “If it weren’t for the appearance of Mo Xiuchen and Gu Kai, I wouldn’t have told you about your origins in this life. That’s what our parents wanted.”

Wen Ran understood that her parents had always treated her as their own daughter, and they had doted on her even more than on Wen Jin. They were afraid that she would be upset if she knew the truth.

Thinking of her parents, she subconsciously squeezed her hands tighter.

Wen Jin noticed her emotions and his voice became even gentler: “When we were younger, I had a sister around your age who was also as lovely as you. My parents and I all loved and cherished her. However, when she was six years old, she was stricken by a serious illness and passed away.”

“During that period, mom was so grief-stricken that she suffered a mental breakdown. When dad was at a loss about what to do, you appeared. Mom transferred the love she had for my deceased sister onto you, and I suddenly had a sister again, which filled me with joy. Seeing how happy mom was made me happy, and that, in turn, made dad happy as well.”

“I…”

Wen Jin knew what Wen Ran wanted to ask. He smiled slightly and continued at a steady pace: “Dad found you late one night. You were badly injured and lying in a small puddle by the roadside. According to dad, it seemed like there were people looking for you in the distance. Those people were likely the ones who had hurt you.”

“Dad immediately brought you to Uncle Ning’s hospital. Later, he made some inquiries and confirmed that there were indeed people looking for you and even heard that they were offering a high reward. For your safety, dad had Uncle Ning remove the mole on your chin.”

“You had a high fever for three days and two nights. When you woke up, dad and mom asked you about your past, but you could no longer remember your name or where you were from.”

Wen Ran’s eyes shifted slightly. She lost her memory due to a high fever?

“Mom liked you the moment she set her eyes on you. She said that since you were around the same age as my deceased sister, and you didn’t know your own origins and had people trying to harm you, why not just let you stay with us?”

“Dad was worried that you would run into the people seeking to hurt you if you ever left the house. In the end, he and mom decided to move from F city to G city. Later on, Mom changed your hairstyle, and with the mole on your chin gone, you looked like a completely different person. Not knowing what to call you, they named you after my sister. From then on, you became my sister, a part of our family.”

Wen Jin explained as clearly as he could, and it seemed like he had already clarified everything, yet Wen Ran was still confused: “Who was the person trying to hurt me? Why did they want to harm me?”
