Chapter 3980: Meeting the Master of Profound Secrets

When he watched the Master of Profound Secrets stride into the hall, a hint of surprise appeared in Jian Chen’s eyes. He obviously knew that the Master of Profound Secrets was currently refining ancient pills for the Illusionary Ancestor, so he could not commit mistakes. As a result, he originally thought the Master of Profound Secrets would only send a soul clone to receive him. He never expected him to come in person!

“You are too kind, master. With your exceptional master over alchemy, what kind of pill can’t you refine with ease? Instead, I’ve come without any warning, so I hope I haven’t disturbed you.” Jian Chen stood up and clasped his hands at the Master of Profound Secrets with a smile.

“I’ve been looking forward to your visit, fellow Yang Yutian. You’ve finally come today, so how can I call it a disturbance?” The Master of Profound Secrets laughed. Shortly afterwards, he looked around and said, “Fellow Jade Lotus, fellow Rushing Lightning, fellow Blood Butcher, fellow Ancient Virtue, an important guest has come to my Azure Light Mountain. Please gather here. I’ll hold a banquet to welcome fellow Yang Yutian.”

The Master of Profound Secrets’ voice resounded through the surroundings, completely resonating across the Azure Light Mountain.

Shortly afterwards, four figures appeared silently behind the Master of Profound Secrets. They were the four experts who had assisted him in killing the Starflame Demon Lion. They were the Jade Lotus Master of Mount Penglai on the Jade’s End Heaven, the Rushing Lightning Immortal Exalt of the Heaven’s Thunder Tower on the Numerous Layer Heaven, the Blood Butcher Immortal Exalt of the Blood Immortal sect on the Ease Nurturing Heaven, and the Ancient Virtue Immortal Exalt of the Immortal Courtyard of Four Sages on the Scholarly Attainment Heaven.

The four experts were all Fifth Heavenly Layer Immortal Exalts. They were all stronger than the Thousand Soul Demon Exalt at his peak.

However, when they faced Jian Chen who was merely an Immortal Emperor, they all set aside their arrogance. Even though they were not as enthusiastic as the Master of Profound Secrets, they still greeted Jian Chen amicably with smiles.

As someone favoured by the Illusionary Ancestor, they could not afford to offend him without good reason regardless of his identity or background.

The Master of Profound Secrets immediately began instructing the medicinal pages to prepare a banquet for Jian Chen to welcome him. However, Jian Chen declined the offer by using the refinement of the ancient pills as a reason.

As soon as he thought of the cauldron of ancient pills that were still in the process of being refined, the Master of Profound Secrets became slightly worried. He was concerned that something would go wrong, so he agreed with Jian Chen and gave up on the banquet.

“I’ve come to the Azure Light Mountain this time for two reasons. I want to learn about the Divine Pills of Way Accumulation, and I also want to see the supreme pill that can only be refined from the essence of the Starflame Demon Lion’s five organs. I was wondering if I could be fortunate enough for that to happen,” Jian Chen said.

When he heard about the Divine Pills of Way Accumulation, the Master of Profound Secrets’ eyes immediately lit up. When the Illusionary Ancestor slew the Starflame Demon Lion, she had given its inner core to Jian Chen. The inner core was a superb material for refining Divine Pills of Way Accumulation.

The Master of Profound Secrets smiled even more enthusiastically. “The ancient pills I’m refining are extraordinary, not just because you rarely come across pills of such high grade, but also because my client is extremely honourable, so honourable that I’m forced to devote all of my efforts to refining these pills. I can’t allow for any mistakes to happen. If someone else put forward a request like this, even if they were a late Immortal Exalt, I’d downright refuse them, but you are an exception, fellow Yang Yutian.”

“Fellow Yang Yutian, please come with me to where I refine my pills!”

The Master of Profound Secrets made an inviting gesture. Afterwards, he led the way. Meanwhile, the four experts headed off in their respective directions. Under the Master of Profound Secrets’ request, they continued to guard the Azure Light Mountain.

Very soon, Jian Chen entered a mountain peak enveloped by several formations and finally saw where the Master of Profound Secrets refined his pills.

It was an open terrace. A colossal cauldron thirty metres tall stood there silent. The violent flames engulfed the entire cauldron, releasing a terrifying heat that seemed to be able to burn the space there.

One of the Master of Profound Secrets’ soul clones sat there, carefully observing any changes in the cauldron. Now that he had arrived here in person, the two immediately merged together.

Jian Chen stopped three hundred metres away from the cauldron. The burning flames were far too terrifying. They were enough to burn Third Heavenly Layer Immortal Exalts to death. With his current strength, he could not get any closer.

Even the Fourth Heavenly Layer Master of Profound Secrets did not have the courage to remain near the flames for extended periods of time.

“Before I finish refining this cauldron of ancient pills, there’s nothing else that I can do either. I won’t be able to refine the Divine Pills of Way Accumulation. If fellow Yang Yutian wants to refine the Divine Pills of Way Accumulation, I’m afraid you’ll have to wait a little,” the Master of Profound Secrets gazed at the cauldron up ahead and said with some pity.

“I heard this cauldron of ancient pills is refined for the crown prince Daowei Chengqing?” Jian Chen looked at the cauldron and asked casually.

“That’s correct. This is indeed something prepared by the Illusionary Ancestor for crown prince Daowei Chengqing. As long as crown prince Daowei Chengqing ingests these pills when he breaks through to Immortal Exalt, he will forge the strongest foundations after he reaches Immortal Exalt. He will be unprecedentedly powerful and unmatched within the same realm.” As soon as he mentioned Daowei Chengqing, the Master of Profound Secrets’ eyes were filled with undisguised amazement. “Even though Daowei Chengqing has already become unmatched in his realm of cultivation with his exceptional talent, it will without a doubt push him to a new height on the path of invincibility if he has the assistance of this pill.”

“As a result, the Illusionary Ancestor cares very much about this cauldron of ancient pills.”

“I never thought that the Illusionary Ancestor would care about Daowei Chengqing so much. In order to assemble the materials for refining this pill, she went as far as to personally slay that powerful Starflame Demon Lion.” Jian Chen sighed. He was slightly cautious but also grateful towards her.

However, he only had hostility towards Daowei Chengqing.

He would never forget how Daowei Chengqing had tried using a strand of Stainless Qi as bait to harm him back then in the sacred land of the Observance Heaven City. If he had not been careful, he probably would have suffered tremendously.

“There’s no need to be envious of crown prince Daowei Chengqing, fellow Yang Yutian. Actually, the Illusionary Ancestor treats you quite well, even on par with crown prince Daowei Chengqing. After all, when she slew the Starflame Demon Lion, the Illusionary Ancestor actually went as far as to shoulder the severe consequence of a more intense tribulation of decline just to save that person for fellow Yang Yutian.”

“Apart from crown prince Daowei Chengqing, I’m afraid that only you can make the Illusionary Ancestor make such a great sacrifice.”

The Master of Profound Secrets looked at Jian Chen with a smile. He was extremely friendly, giving off a sense of closeness. He asked curiously, “Oh right, I was wondering about what clan or sect you came from, fellow Yang Yutian. Once this cauldron of pills is complete, I’ll definitely pay a visit in person. By then, I hope you won’t turn me away, fellow Yang Yutian.”

Jian Chen knew the Master of Profound Secrets was trying to investigate his identity and background. He said with a smile, “With the master’s status, you’d be an esteemed guest no matter where you go, so how can you be turned away? Unfortunately, I belong to no sect or clan. I am an independent cultivator in the Immortals’ World, which may disappoint the master.”

“Haha, it’s not a problem, it’s not a problem. If it’s inconvenient for fellow Yang Yutian to tell me, you can just treat it like I never asked.” The Master of Profound Secrets clearly did not believe him. After all, the Illusionary Ancestor had exposed Jian Chen for his lie back then. He also knew that the name Yang Yutian was fake.

However, regardless of whether it was fake or not, this was not important. He only needed to know that the Illusionary Ancestor favoured this person very much.

That was the greatest value that the Master of Profound Secrets saw in him, as well as the only value he saw in him.

“It’s not inconvenient. It’s just that the organisation I came from had been destroyed long ago. I only managed to inherit my master’s legacy on the brink of his death,” Jian Chen said.
