Chapter 221: Chapter 221: Crisis in Tongtian City Chapter 221: Chapter 221: Crisis in Tongtian City “Your Highness, the Crown Prince is still fighting valiantly alone. Catapulting stones and loosing arrows may hit him by mistake!” a general said with a worried look, hesitating.

“Shut up!” Duan Henxi barked angrily, his gaze anxiously fixed on Duan Wuqing as he clenched his fists.

“Loose arrows! Hurl stones!” the general bellowed.

The soldiers, already prepared, drew their bows and shot arrows, hurling flaming rocks.

“Whoosh whoosh whoosh!”

“Boom boom boom!”

A dense swarm of needles shot into the sky, and dozens of fireballs flew forth, furiously bombarding the enemy troops. The Empire’s soldiers, who were rushing to attack the city, were either struck by arrows or killed by the exploding stones.

A fierce offensive wave left the Shuiyue Empire’s soldiers with heavy casualties.

Outside the city gates, upon seeing that Duan Henxi and his men had retreated within the walls, the Shadow Corps’ leader shouted, “Stop Duan Wuqing, don’t let him enter the city! Generals, continue the siege!”

The Shadow Corps pursuing at the forefront decisively turned around to rush towards Duan Wuqing.

Duan Wuqing fought his way back ferociously, killing dozens of the Shadow Corps’ soldiers with his overwhelming might; no one could block him!

“Do you think you can stop me if I want to leave?” he said menacingly, his aura murderous, his body already splattered with the enemy’s blood.

“Bang!”

“Whoosh!”

Duan Wuqing slammed his palm onto the spear’s shaft. With a muffled ‘bang,’ the spear shot out like lightning, instantly piercing through several of the Shadow soldiers.

“Whoosh whoosh whoosh!”

“Boom boom boom!”

The Shadow soldiers unleashed their martial skills one after another, not caring whether they could hit their target or not. With a thousand men besieging Duan Wuqing, how could they not kill him?

“Bring me the longbow!” Duan Henxi roared from atop the city wall: “Big brother! I’m here to support you!”

Duan Wuqing was fighting alone; Duan Henxi had to support him, otherwise it would be very difficult for Duan Wuqing to retreat safely.

Duan Henxi raised the longbow and channelled True Yuan into the arrows.

“Whoosh!”

“Hiss!”

An arrow nocked, a loud ‘whoosh’ as it shattered the air, the arrow glowing blue as it blasted out like lightning. The next second, with a ‘hiss,’ a Shadow soldier died on the spot!

“I’ll join you!” Su Lieyang shouted, taking up a longbow to support Duan Wuqing.

“Whoosh whoosh whoosh!”

Duan Henxi and Su Lieyang drew their bows in succession, firing arrows imbued with terrifying power. Incredibly accurate, one arrow took down an enemy.

“Good shooting!” Duan Wuqing shouted appreciatively.

“Even if it costs us our lives, stop Duan Wuqing!” the Shadow Corps leader behind them bellowed furiously, his face hideously twisted with murderous intent.

Duan Wuqing stirred True Yuan, unleashing a terrifying power as the pursuing Shadow Corps charged at him with ferocity.

“Profound Grade high-tier martial skill! Divine Slash!”

Duan Wuqing formed hand seals with one hand, then with a fierce shout, he swept his left hand out, releasing a tremendously powerful blue energy slash.

“Get out of the way quick!”

“It’s too late!”

Dozens of Shadow soldiers were extremely frightened. The quick-reacting ones narrowly escaped, while the unlucky ones were struck dead by the energy slash.

“Duan Wuqing, let’s see how much True Yuan you have left! Keep attacking!” the Shadow Corps leader shouted.

The pursuing Shadows, relentless, kept unleashing ferocious attacks, their martial skills’ energies rushing towards Duan Wuqing.

Duan Wuqing cast a glance back at the frantically pursuing Shadow leader and the numerous Shadow soldiers, then used his movement technique to continue his deadly advance towards the city. The soldiers attacking the city, seeing Duan Wuqing’s fierce counterattack, were scared witless.

After the intense fight, Duan Wuqing’s True Yuan was significantly depleted. Even at the Seventh Level of the Yuandan Realm, his complexion was now slightly pale.

However, the Shadow Corps’ soldiers also struggled to intercept Duan Wuqing, especially with the longbow support from Duan Henxi and Su Lieyang atop the city walls.

As powerful as the Shadow Corps was, they were no match against Duan Wuqing whose strength was comparable to the Eight Layers of the Yuan Dan Realm.

“How preposterous!” the Shadow Corps leader raged.

Duan Wuqing’s speed was too terrifying; they couldn’t catch up, and the Shadow soldiers turning back couldn’t stop him.

Seeing Duan Wuqing cutting a bloody path back, the taut nerves in Duan Henxi finally relaxed. He then shouted loudly, “Open the gates!”

Upon reaching the city gates, Duan Wuqing cleaved apart a siege engine and shouted, “Loose arrows!”

“Loose arrows!” Duan Henxi echoed the cry.

“Whoosh whoosh whoosh!”

“Boom boom boom!”

A dense volley of arrows and stones launched another fierce attack, inflicting heavy casualties on the Shuiyue Empire’s troops, a gruesome sight to behold.

Powerful as the Shadow Corps was, it too suffered many losses to the hail of arrows and stones.

“Big brother, are you alright?” Duan Henxi asked anxiously.

“I’m fine, just burned a lot of True Yuan,” Duan Wuqing replied with difficulty, catching his breath.

“The Shadow Corps is too formidable; our soldiers can’t match them. If this continues, Tongtian City might not be defensible!” Su Lieyang spoke gravely.

“`

“We must hold on at all costs! We absolutely cannot let the Shadow Corps break through the pass!” Duan Wuqing said ferociously, ready to sacrifice himself at any moment.

“Right! We mustn’t let them in, even if it costs us our lives!” Duan Henxi shouted fiercely, and the soldiers roared in unison, their morale skyrocketing.

The troops led by General Hou had nearly reached the city gates. The vanguard had been crushed, and the follow-up troops had taken their place. The soldiers of the Shadow Corps had also arrived in front of the city gates.

Under the relentless assault of dense arrows and fire stones, the enemy suffered heavy casualties.

“General Hou! Ram the gates! Take down Tongtian City at all costs, kill Duan Wuqing and Duan Henxi, and cut off the Yanhuo Empire’s lineage!” the Shadow Leader bellowed, “Brothers, assault the city!”

The soldiers of the Shadow Corps hastily channeled their True Yuan and leapt onto the city gates.

“Don’t let them up!” Duan Henxi bellowed, and the soldiers drew their bows and fired.

Duan Wuqing, holding a long spear, swept across repeatedly, sending terrifying bursts of spear energy flying out. Any soldier who leapt up was severely injured and fell back down.

However, there were too many soldiers of the Shadow Corps; it was impossible for Duan Wuqing and his men to block them all.

Soon enough, a large number of the Shadow Corps’ soldiers had leapt onto the city gates. Their speed was astonishing; ordinary soldiers could only be slaughtered in seconds.

“Kill!” Duan Henxi roared, unleashing the War Soul Spear and leading his soldiers in a charge, all looking fierce and demonic.

Duan Henxi’s cultivation was formidable, having broken into the Fifth Level of the Yuandan Realm. The enemy soldiers fell one by one, and bodies continuously tumbled from the city gates.

“Kill them all! General Hou! Smash the gates, take Tongtian City!” the Shadow Leader shouted furiously, leaping onto the gate and engaged in a brutal slaughter.

The Shadow Corps was indeed the elite of the Shuiyue Empire, and the soldiers of the Yanhuo Empire were powerless to resist. Their very presence was like a harvester of lives.

Even with the presence of Duan Wuqing and Duan Henxi holding the line, they could not stop the frenzied killings by the thousands of Shadow Corps soldiers.

“Boom boom boom!”

Below the city gates, the heavy thuds of the gates being rammed echoed incessantly as the soldiers inside desperately defended.

But, given such fierce battering, it seemed the gates would not withstand much longer before being breached.

“Kill the two of them, and the Yanhuo Empire will end! The rest of you brothers, go under the city and open the gates for General Hou’s troops!” The Shadow Leader coldly sneered, looking mad with bloodlust.

More and more Shadow Corps soldiers leapt onto the city gate and from there into the city. The Shadow Corps pressed on ruthlessly, and the soldiers of the Yanhuo Empire suffered heavy casualties and retreat.

“I’ll see your lineage ended! Watch me slaughter you!” Duan Henxi roared in rage, ready to charge at the Shadow Leader.

“Let me handle this!” Duan Wuqing’s fierce gaze shifted to the Shadow Leader, and he coldly said, “Just a Fifth Level of the Yuandan Realm, I want to see how capable you really are!”

With that, Duan Wuqing rushed towards the Shadow Leader at breakneck speed, his murderous intent skyrocketing.

“Hmph! Brothers! Join me in exterminating Duan Wuqing!” the Shadow Leader yelled angrily, with a grim expression on his face.

“Kill!” Dozens of Shadow Corps soldiers quickly moved into action, appearing ghostly as they advanced.

The Shadow Corps lived up to their reputation for appearing without a shadow and leaving without a trace.

“Undying War Soul Spear! Shatter the Stars!”

Duan Wuqing let out a fierce cry, and terrifying power surged into his long spear. The spear blazed with dazzling blue light, and the fearsome energy of the spear beam was suffocating.

“Whoosh!”

“Hum hum!”

With a sweeping thrust, Duan Wuqing launched a gigantic blue energy spear more than twenty meters long, its momentum spectacular, and its force overwhelming.

“Earth Grade Martial Skill!” The Shadow Leader’s face turned pale as he panicked, “Careful!”

Dozens of Shadow Corps soldiers, terrified, hastened to use their movement techniques to dodge.

“Boom boom boom!”

“Thud thud thud!”

As for the remaining enemy troops, they weren’t so fortunate. Anyone who came into contact with Duan Wuqing’s dreadful spear was blown to a blood mist!

The power of an Earth Rank initial-grade martial skill was truly terrifying.

“Whoosh!”

“Sss sss sss!”

While this was happening, Duan Wuqing, holding his long spear, burst forward, transforming into a streak of blue light. His spear flashed in succession, instantly slaying over a dozen Shadow Corps soldiers.

“Is this the best you can do against my empire?” Duan Wuqing coldly said, looking incredibly fierce. Anyone who saw him would feel a chill in their heart.

“Great Prince, our soldiers can’t hold on much longer!” General Yang shouted anxiously.

“Young brother! Go down and hold the gates!” Duan Wuqing yelled, quickly moving to support his men.

The gates of Tongtian City had already been bashed open, and the crack widened with the Shuiyue Empire soldiers’ relentless ramming.

With the Shadow Corps soldiers already pouring in from the top of the gates and mercilessly killing, the soldiers of the Yanhuo Empire were backing down. They likely wouldn’t last much longer.

“Brothers, kill! Take down Tongtian City! We’ll head straight for the Yanhuo Empire’s royal palace!” the Shadow Leader shouted, and his soldiers’ morale soared even higher, becoming more ferocious.

“Whoosh!”

At that moment, a figure suddenly appeared above Tongtian City.

“The Shadow Corps of the Shuiyue Empire indeed lives up to its reputation!” the newcomer above the city slightly sneered.

“Grand Commander!” Hearing this voice, Duan Wuqing’s expression changed dramatically, ecstatically scanning for Feng Wuchen.

“Feng Wuchen!” Seeing Feng Wuchen appear, the soldiers of the Shadow Corps all showed a look of terror. The soldiers on the city wall were so frightened they jumped down, and many soldiers retreated in fear.

“Greetings, Grand Commander!” Inside Tongtian City, the soldiers were extremely excited, and they all kneeled down and shouted respectfully.
