Dragon God Supreme

Chapter 220: Chapter 220: War Breaks Out Chapter 220: Chapter 220: War Breaks Out Tensions between the Shuiyue Empire and the Yanhuo Empire were rising.

Within the Shuiyue Empire, the various regional forces assisting the Empire had already set out with the imperial army.

Vast banners of the Shuiyue Empire fluttered in the wind, all soldiers clad in black armor, the massive army moving forward in an overwhelming tide with unstoppable momentum.

They represented the strongest army among the four nations!

Although the Tianwu Empire and the Luoyun Empire had not agreed to send troops, this did not affect Thunderous Wind’s determination to deploy his forces.

The Shuiyue Empire’s army of one hundred thousand, plus the cultivators from all the major forces of the Empire, totaled nearly two hundred thousand, forming an incredibly formidable lineup.

Almost two hundred thousand troops, divided into four contingents, were rushing towards the Yanhuo Empire, each group resembling a long dragon swishing its tail.

The Shuiyue Empire’s army was well-equipped, with cavalry units, chariot units, archery units, and various siege engines at their disposal.

Yet, these were not the most elite troops of the Shuiyue Empire.

As the foremost among the four nations and the strongest, the Shuiyue Empire naturally had its most powerful forces.

The Shadow Corps was the most elite troop of the Shuiyue Empire, as well as an assassin squad, specializing in assassination missions; their very existence struck terror into the hearts of the four great empires.

The Shadow Corps, composed of thousands of members, each at least at the Second Layer of the Yuandan Realm and the strongest among them at the Sixth Layer of the Yuandan Realm, were all equipped with superior quality treasures, weapons, and armor, possessing a ferocious combat power, with each elite soldier being brave and adept in battle.

They were called “Shadows” because they moved without a trace.

The Shadow Corps had yet to be deployed, or perhaps they had already been dispatched in secret!

Meanwhile, the Yanhuo Empire had mobilized an army of one hundred thousand, with forces from various regions following the imperial army, also divided in four contingents, heading to the four major passes of the nations.

Outside the four great passes lay a vast open ground, a battlefield!

The Xuantian Sect, Burn Heaven Valley, Tiandu Auction House, Ye Family, Ni Family, Sky Pavilion, and other major forces were all out in full force, integrated into the imperial army.

Although the Sky Pavilion had only a little more than two hundred people, led personally by Chi Huang, their strength was not to be underestimated, as the cultivators of the Sky Pavilion were not ordinary soldiers to be trifled with.

The ten masters of the Sky Pavilion were a terrifying force to be reckoned with!

The most formidable was the Xuantian Sect, which, after months of arduous training, had cultivated a batch of immensely powerful disciples.

The headmaster of the Tianyan Academy, along with the elders and tutors, and even the students in the Yuandan Realm, had also joined in.

The army of the Yanhuo Empire was also close to two hundred thousand strong, and more cultivators were constantly joining, ever increasing the strength of the army.

Duan Tian Hun, Yang Tianxian, and Situ Zhentian had already arrived at the Yanhuo Empire’s most important pass, Yanhuo City!

The people of Yanhuo City had already evacuated, and several tens of thousands of soldiers were stationed within the city!

The other three armies were respectively led by Ye Cangqiong, Duan Wuqing, and Ling Zhantian, each with several tens of thousands of soldiers, now waiting at the various passes for the Shuiyue Empire’s army.

Above each great pass flew the banners of the Yanhuo Empire, emblazoned with the character “炎” for flame.

The soldiers of the Yanhuo Empire were also well-equipped, with various flint chariots, war crossbows, steel shields, and their combat power was not to be underestimated.

Of course, the most important were the Guardian Gods of the Yanhuo Empire! The most powerful troops of the Empire!

The Sky Shadow cavalry and the Black Flag Army were led by Feng Wuchen!

The Sky Shadow cavalry and Black Flag Army were no longer what they used to be; they were the main forces of the Yanhuo Empire, with the entire Empire looking forward to witnessing their true strength!

Would these two elite forces be able to overpower the Shadow Corps of the Shuiyue Empire?

As time trickled by, the tranquility of the four great passes began to be disrupted by the sound of horns, signaling the approach of the Shuiyue Empire’s army.

The four contingents of the Shuiyue Empire had arrived at the four great passes of the Yanhuo Empire!

Their army’s vigor was like a rainbow, and their killing intent was terrifying, striking fear into the hearts of onlookers.

Outside of Yanhuo City, the army led personally by Thunderous Wind had reached the gates.

On the city wall, Duan Tian Hun watched Thunderous Wind and said, “Emperor Lei, you have arrived quite quickly.”

Thunderous Wind glanced around, not seeing Feng Wuchen’s figure, and then said viciously, “What? Is Feng Wuchen too afraid to come and face death?”

“That’s none of your concern,” Duan Tian Hun replied with a cold laugh.

“Attack the city!” Thunderous Wind roared, foregoing any further talk.

“Attack the city! Release the arrows!” a general bellowed, as a large number of soldiers drew their bows and released arrows, with many pushing huge chariots towards the city gates!

Various martial techniques were unleashed in an attempt to blow the gates apart.

“Whoosh whoosh whoosh!”

In an instant, a dense volley of arrows flew towards Yanhuo City, the assault vicious, leaving buildings within the city riddled with arrows and many soldiers resembling hornet’s nests.

“Duan Tian Hun! Come on, let me see how much your strength has improved over these years!” Thunderous Wind shouted as he leapt into the air, his terrifying killing intent pervading the atmosphere.

“Catapult stones! Release the arrows!” Duan Tian Hun roared, following up into the sky, unleashing the full force of his Tianyuan Realm First Layer’s terrifying power, making the void tremble.

At Duan Tian Hun’s command, atop the city gate, a host of archers instantly drew and shot their arrows.

Inside Yanhuo City, the flint chariots, well prepared, suddenly launched their assault.

One by one, the chariots hurled fireballs into the sky, and a spectacular scene unfolded: dozens of massive fireballs rose from within Yanhuo City, smashing ferociously towards the Shuiyue Empire’s army outside the gates.

The battle was on the brink of eruption!

“Boom, boom, boom!”

Wherever the firestones passed, explosions sounded ceaselessly, and numerous soldiers died in an instant, their deaths tragic.

At the same time, fierce battles also broke out at the other three major passages, with firestones and arrows attacking wildly.

The soldiers as well as cultivators from various forces launched vicious assaults, displaying a myriad of martial arts techniques.

Wuqing led his soldiers to fling open the city gates. Holding a long spear and mounted on a warhorse, he charged into battle, his presence majestic and momentum overwhelming.

The empire’s Crown Prince and the young princes personally joined the fray, fighting the enemy on the front lines where the soldiers’ morale surged and their killing intent boiled over, clashing fiercely with the Shuiyue Empire’s troops.

Ling Zhantian’s troops staunchly guarded the city gates, focusing on long-range attacks. Whenever the enemy forces charged, they would be met with a barrage of fierce strikes, making the defense as solid as a fortress of gold.

They must not allow the Shuiyue Empire’s forces to breach the city. Should the defense fall, the Shuiyue army would swarm through the pass, and the common people of the Yanhuo Empire would face annihilation.

Ye Cangqiong’s troops fought even more ferociously, splitting their forces into three groups: Chu Wuheng and Xiang Yan led the left and right flanks, while Ye Cangqiong’s soldiers struck directly at the heart of the enemy.

With a three-pronged attack, they surrounded the Shuiyue Empire’s troops. The archers and war chariots within the city unleashed a frenzied assault on the enemy’s central camp, with the primary goal of causing disorder.

Ye Cangqiong’s troops, personally trained by him, were not as formidable as the Sky Shadow cavalry or the Black Flag Army, but they were several times stronger than ordinary soldiers and exceedingly ferocious.

The brutality of war became evident as both nations engaged in battle, with massive casualties and thick smoke rising within mere minutes.

Every second, soldiers were killed or grievously injured, with corpses scattered across the battlefield and blood flowing like rivers, its stench piercing the nostrils.

Tongtian City, the passage guarded by Wuqing.

“Reporting to the Crown Prince! The Shuiyue Empire’s Shadow Corps are here!” a soldier reported, terror etched on his face.

“Big brother, what should we do?” Duan Henxi asked.

Wuqing furrowed his brow and said gravely, “The Shadow Corps is the Shuiyue Empire’s most elite force; our strength is no match. We must retreat immediately!”

“Retreat? Can’t be serious? Are we truly afraid of the Shadow Corps?” Duan Henxi said, slightly taken aback.

Su Lieyang snapped, “You know nothing of military strategy. Quit your babbling and retreat quickly!”

Wuqing’s expertise in leading troops and his war strategy were all learned from Ye Cangqiong. Facing the elite forces of the Shuiyue Empire, Wuqing had no choice but to order a decisive withdrawal. To stand and fight would only lead to catastrophic losses!

With sturdy city walls to fall back on, they could not only preserve their strength but also weaken the enemy’s!

At Wuqing’s command, Duan Henxi led the empire’s army in a retreat, while Wuqing alone covered their escape, continuing to fight the enemy as the Shuiyue troops pursued their advantage.

Once the Shadow Corps joined the fight, the Shuiyue Empire’s military morale soared even higher.

“General Hou! Lead the troops to attack the city! Leave Wuqing for now!” the leader of the Shadow Corps ordered loudly.

“Yes!” General Hou responded respectfully.

The thousand-strong Shadow Corps, with their astonishing speed, quickly caught up to the retreating Yanhuo Empire’s army and began a massacre.

“Ssst, ssst, ssst!”

Wherever the Shadow Corps went, the Yanhuo Empire’s troops suffered heavy casualties without the power to resist, the soldiers filled with extreme terror.

“Wuqing, no matter how strong you are, can you eradicate our entire Shadow Corps? Duan Tian Hun really trusts you two brothers to guard Tongtian City,” the leader of the Shadow Corps taunted with a sneer.

“You’re courting death!” Wuqing roared. He stood on the back of his warhorse, brandishing his long spear aggressively as he charged towards the leader of the Shadow Corps.

“Brothers! Scatter! Pay no mind to me!” the leader of the Shadow Corps shouted as he saw Wuqing bearing down on him. He immediately executed his movement technique, his figure transforming into a wisp of black smoke and vanishing mysteriously.

“Henxi! Take the soldiers into the city!” Wuqing shouted, remaining alert as he ordered.

“Stop them!” the leader of the Shadow Corps bellowed as his troops chased after them, slaughtering all along the way.

“Humph! Don’t even think about it!” Wuqing snorted fiercely and turned to slaughter his way back towards the city.

Wuqing was terrifyingly fast and even more terrifying in strength. Where he passed, death and injury befell in droves, no one able to stand in his way.

Sensing Wuqing retreating, the Shadow Corps’ expressions changed.

The Shadow Corps leader who had been in pursuit shouted, “Stop Wuqing! Don’t let him enter the city!”

The Shadow Corps, chasing after Henxi, decisively turned to intercept Wuqing.

“Fire the arrows!” Wuqing ordered loudly.

Above the city gates, the soldiers hesitated; Wuqing was still outside, and firing arrows might inevitably hit him.

“Big brother!” Duan Henxi anxiously looked back, his heart racing with panic.

Wuqing fought valiantly alone, confronting the Shuiyue Empire’s Shadow Corps by himself!

“Crown Prince!” the soldiers all voiced their extreme concern.

“Get inside quickly!” Wuqing roared, his murderous intent skyrocketing as he ferociously charged into the Shadow Corps, utterly fearless.

“Wuqing! You’re seeking death! No matter how strong you are, can you kill all of us?” a Shadow Corps soldier said with a cold laugh.

“Enter the city!” Henxi led the army into the city, not letting the opportunity Wuqing had risked his life for go to waste.

As they closed the city gates, Henxi’s eyes brimmed with tears as he yelled, “Release arrows! Launch stones!”
