Chapter 59: Revised: Chapter 49 The Parrot’s Grief

Wen Xishu was quite confident in his luck. After all, this round his Luck Value came into play, and he rolled the maximum 666 on the dice.

A heavenly beginning—this aura clearly indicated an Emperor Ouyang round. Fast completion of Level 6 in the Desire Tower would be today.

With this kind of luck, how could he lose?

Dice roll: 2, 2.

”Seems like your luck isn’t good. You drink first.” Tang Rui tapped her finger lightly on the glass, staring intently at Wen Xishu.

Wen Xishu remained silent.

Hmm, a bad start is good, fits my temperament. Lose the first round to show weakness, then go wild and win it all.

The wine poured into the glass, and Wen Xishu noticed that the originally wine-red liquid suddenly had a faint glow to it.

”So beautiful...” Tang Rui couldn’t help but say.

It was her first time seeing such a magical reaction, those dim reds becoming vibrant.

Wen Xishu said softly:

”After I drink, you can ask me one question, and I promise it will be the truth.”

Tang Rui responded with an ”oh,” feeling that truth-telling didn’t seem that interesting. But playing with this suddenly appearing stranger, perhaps, did carry some intrigue.

There seemed to be something on Wen Xishu that made her feel a sense of kinship.

”Does happiness mean telling the truth?”

”Depends on who you’re telling it to. If you tell me, you might get an unprecedented surprise.” Wen Xishu said seriously.

Tang Rui thought he was speaking nonsense and didn’t realize this was a major turn of fate.

Wen Xishu drank the wine down in one gulp.

[You drank the wine influenced by the cup. From this moment, the person holding the cup can ask you a question, and you’ll absolutely tell the truth.]

This was the first prompt, originally the only prompt, meaning the truth-telling cup’s function began to take effect.

But interestingly, Wen Xishu received a second prompt.

[Under the influence of Strange Sequence 98: Mixed Emotions, the truth-telling cup has undergone slight changes. The person holding the cup will gain an enhanced experience in hearing the truth.]

Wen Xishu felt a bit surprised.

Strange Sequence 99: Mixed Emotions—in Tang Rui’s body—indeed hides a strange sequence.

But unlike Jack, who mutated one day, Tang Rui was gradually awakening. At least at this moment, her sequence could already slightly resonate with his own sequence.

On the other side, Tang Rui didn’t receive any prompts. Only those holding the black wristwatch of the Bunker People could see these prompts.

However, Tang Rui did feel the magical power of the cup.

She had a feeling that no matter how sensitive the topics, or what level of secrets she asked, the other party would tell the truth.

This was dangerous, as this effect might apply to herself too. But it also fascinated her.

The truth-telling cup: once someone drank, the other person would automatically be influenced by the cup and participate in the game.

”Do you... have a girl you like?”

It was a very cliché truth question, but as an ice-breaker, it was fitting. Tang Rui thought, and then she would ask more secretive ones.

”No.” Wen Xishu responded decisively.

He loved such questions, needing only to answer with yes or no.

But then, Tang Rui saw some scenes.

The city’s scene was somewhat familiar yet unfamiliar to Tang Rui; it seemed like Jiangcheng but also not like Jiangcheng.

The city scene flashed by, and the next moment the surroundings were ablaze. A child of twelve or thirteen stood outside the flames, holding an undialed phone, talking to himself.

”Just love yourself, don’t let them deceive you anymore, and don’t trust anyone easily. Do what you like, feel all the novelties and excitements of this world.”

After saying these words, the child dialed the phone—it was an emergency call.

Tang Rui vaguely guessed that the child was the person drinking with her, and as she watched the child’s back, she inexplicably felt a sense of loneliness.

She had an urge to keep asking questions. To the extent that she ignored asking what the cup was all about.

”What did you go through...”

”Stop, that’s the second question—roll the dice first.” Wen Xishu interrupted Tang Rui.

Tang Rui saw what Wen Xishu could also feel.

He realized the danger of the cup, but this way, he could use the cup to get all the information.

However, Wen Xishu wasn’t pleased for long.

Because the roll was 1, 5. Adding up to six, meaning it’s his turn to drink again.

”I have good luck, you...”

Tang Rui suddenly stopped talking. She seemed to have gotten smart, realizing she shouldn’t ask such broad questions. Because the other party could answer vaguely.

So she changed her question:

”Has anyone loved you in the past?”

Wen Xishu shook his head:

”No one.”

His expression changed from calm to serious, or rather he didn’t know what expression to use, so he looked expressionless, hence appearing serious.

Tang Rui hesitated. She knew the rules of the cup—only truth could be told. This man sincerely believed he had never been loved.

But the scenes she saw were so warm.

It was the happiness she always dreamed of.

”Little Tree, Little Tree, look, what’s this? This is a rog handheld console mom bought for you, happy?”

The woman’s face seemed shrouded in fog, but one could still see her extraordinarily bright smile.

Such warm scenes weren’t just one.

”Little Tree, Little Tree, sorry to disturb you at school, but today’s lunch is delicious, happy birthday! After school, let’s go to the amusement park together.”
