Chapter 55: After modification: Chapter 46 The Avenger

Wen Xishu decided to use the invitation.

When he touched the invitation, he received this prompt.

[Affected by a special power, the invitation can be used consecutively three times. One complete shuttle is considered one time.]

[Due to the invitation’s effect, even if the target fails to complete the mission in the Desire Tower in the first two attempts, it will not be considered a failure.]

[The final result will be based on the last shuttle.]

[If you don’t use all three shuttles, you can’t accumulate them for the next tower climb.]

The explanation was detailed, and Wen Xishu began to consider how to use it. Three chances, at least, could correspond to three different rooms’ items.

But Wen Xishu felt that using all three would be too inefficient. He thought it best to solve everything within two shuttles, hoping to achieve a sixth-level completion rate again.

This way, returning to the Bunker could trigger significant reactions.

”When I climbed the bookshelf earlier, I touched many items and found that some had a slight aura of sin while others had a strong aura of sin...”

”According to these clues, if I slowly search, I could purify this room.”

”But I can’t assume time is sufficient. I can’t presume that just because this is the sixth level, I can easily obtain item information.”

”And it’s worth noting that when the anti-idle detection triggers, you will hear that greasy, disgusting prompt.”

”That prompt helps me infer the game’s plot development, and at a certain stage, it might provide clues.”

Even without the invitation, Wen Xishu was sure he could find the real pollutants that needed purification based on some clues.

But there’s no need. Since the invitation can be used three times, he decided to use it first.

However, at this moment, Park Mi-hye started talking about Zheng Zai’s father.

”The A-level cadre of the Civil Affairs Bureau’s third department, Director Zheng Yi... Is he your father?”

Zheng Zai nodded in surprise.

Park Mi-hye assumed Wen Xishu wanted to recruit Zheng Zai, so she was also willing to please Zheng Zai.

”Unfortunately, your father is already... dead.”

Zheng Zai shook his head desperately:

”Impossible, my father wasn’t sentenced to death! He said he had a backer...”

Park Mi-hye sighed:

”A backer? Do you know that as long as your father was alive, his backer would be unsettled?”

”The Bunker has a Level 4 facility prison and a Level 3 building prison.”

”The Level 4 facility prison is used to detain serious criminals and former cadres.”

”Prisoners in the Level 4 facility rarely get out. Therefore, what to do with the prisoners, how to handle them, is decided by the warden.”

”Coincidentally, I know someone from the prison department.”

Simply put, Park Mi-hye had slept with the warden.

Wen Xishu watched Zheng Zai, wanting to see how he would react to such devastating news.

Zheng Zai held his head:

”No... No, he said he would come out.”

Park Mi-hye said:

”I wish I knew it was fake, but I can’t lie to you. In fact... I think it’s incredible that you survived without being implicated.”

”Your father loved you very much... He must have paid a huge price for this.”

Park Mi-hye looked a bit reluctant. Whether she was faking it or not, she at least seemed very sympathetic towards Zheng Zai now.

Blood gradually appeared in Zheng Zai’s eyes. Those unbearable memories began to surface.

From an initial state of clear panic, his eyes slowly showed a hint of anger.

”Ten years ago, the Bunker opened its first sports hall and established the Cultural and Sports Bureau.”

”At that time, I thought that if I could become an athlete, it might... reduce some political crimes.”

”At least, at least it would give me a fair environment.”

”I have long arms, so I chose the javelin throwing event.”

”In the first year, I placed fourteenth. The top ten were all promoted on posters and received a lot of supplies... even Desire Tower slot allocations.”

”I was greatly encouraged. I thought that if I worked hard enough, and became a sensational athlete, reporters would dig into my past and find my father.”

”My father, he really wasn’t a bad person.”

”In the second year, I placed ninth. I finally made it into the top ten, but this year, they focused on the top six.”

”I only blamed myself for not working hard enough, so I started to train hard. In the third year, I became fourth.”

”Heh, but this time, they focused on and gave special attention to the top three.”

”I hated my weakness. That year, I kept telling myself, Zheng Zai, if you work a bit harder, people will care about your father.”

”In the fourth year, I took second place, the first place was a Black person from the Bunker...”

”And that year, they only reported the first place winner who took all the rewards and publicity.”

”I knew it wasn’t enough, not enough... The path to saving my father was still long.”

”In the fifth year, I utterly dominated and took first place, breaking all previous records.”

”I thought, it’s finally my turn, right?”

”But no, no! It’s not!

Zheng Zai began to pound the floor crazily:

”Those bastards only took a group photo of athletes previously spotlighted and said that this year’s javelin competition was just as exciting... It was glossed over.”

”I finally understood, there was an invisible mountain in this world, intentionally blocking children of criminals like me. For every step I climbed, the mountain grew two steps.”

”When I thought I could finally see the light after five years of effort... I discovered that everything above was even darker.”

Wen Xishu wasn’t usually concerned about others’ suffering.

But he was inexplicably moved.

Would his relentless exploration of the Deceit Tower eventually lead to the same fate?

The Bunker Security Bureau wouldn’t appreciate him, Wen Xishu knew this very well.

Perhaps one day, after exhausting his value and secrets, the Bunker Security Bureau would discard him.

He was even clear that this wasn’t a maybe; it was inevitable.

After all, Wen Chaohua’s crime was far graver than Zheng Zai’s father’s.

”But I refuse to give up. I’m still striving. I started climbing towers, hoping that if I brought back enough supplies, I could be remembered by the Bunker.”

”The appearance of Wen Xishu...”

Zheng Zai glanced at Wen Xishu. He still believed in Wen Xishu, believing that the current Wen Xishu was merely a namesake of the Bunker’s legendary figure.

”I mean, that Wen Xishu who saved countless lives in the Bunker, gave me hope.”

”I thought... I should explore the Deceit Tower.”

Zheng Zai’s fists were already stained with blood.

”I have... I’ve even been willing to risk my life. During my last exploration of the Deceit Tower, I even contracted a strange disease.”

”I became neither human nor ghost, bloodthirsty and violent. In the Bunker, afraid of my bloodthirsty desire overwhelming me, I used an iron mask to cover my mouth. I’ve endured so much!!”

Zheng Zai raised his head, his eyes filled with rage and ferocity:

”But why! Why did he still die? What meaning does everything I did have in the end?”

”Is there any fairness and justice in this Bunker?”

Wen Xishu saw the flames of destruction. It was a madness as if to destroy the entire world.

He could imagine that if Jack’s mother had died, Jack would continually question why.

But no one would answer him.

Wen Xishu liked this look in his eyes very much, and he suddenly decided to keep Zheng Zai.

No matter how well he had treated Zheng Zai before, Wen Xishu always thought that in the end, he should kill him if necessary.

Because he couldn’t afford any risk of exposing his secrets.

But now, Wen Xishu changed his mind. He saw the barrage that only he could see.

It was a dense barrage, representing true extreme emotions.

[I want revenge! I want revenge! I want revenge!]

A series of dense barrages crossed Wen Xishu’s vision like a thousand troops and horses.

Wen Xishu had to admit, if Zheng Zai wasn’t a Bunker Person but a Three Tower People...

Presumably, this would make him a Slaughter Tower boss-level player, right?

After hearing Zheng Zai’s past, Wen Xishu no longer delayed and activated the invitation, preparing to head to the Desire Tower.

”See you later, you two,” Wen Xishu murmured in his heart.

At this moment, time suddenly stopped.

Park Mi-hye and Zheng Zai, still in conversation, were frozen by the eerie energy.
