Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 944: Chapter 917: Theoretically Impossible

Mr. Liu was watching TV with Master, and was a bit surprised to see them come so late, but Master was quite happy.

”I was just worried about having no one to play chess with me. Minglang, come play a few games.”

Qian sat on the sofa without speaking, and Mr. Liu asked her with concern.

”Did you encounter any problems?”

Coming over so late surely meant there was something going on.

”Teacher, I’d like to ask you a question. Is there really hypnosis that can completely change a person’s subconscious?”

Mr. Liu was taken aback when Qian asked this.

”Why do you suddenly want to ask this?”

”I’m just curious... In the clinical cases I’ve encountered, although many use hypnosis to enter the subconscious, forming a voice similar to schizophrenia that conflicts with consciousness in a short time—is this theoretically possible?”

Qian carefully asked about Shi Yu’s reaction after being hypnotized and was horrified to discover that it was completely different from what she had come across before, completely overturning her existing knowledge system.

”When you say short, what do you mean by short?” Mr. Liu asked.

”Once, and the time was within half an hour.”

”What’s the relationship between the psychologist and the patient?”

”They don’t know each other.”

”Is the patient’s mind normal?”

”Normal, slightly smarter than average, a constitution that makes one easily hypnotized.”

”Does the patient remember the hypnosis process afterwards?”

”Absolutely not, just later there was a period of consciousness conflict, always recalling the suggestive words.”

Mr. Liu frowned, stood up, and walked around the room, seemingly pondering the issue.

”Theoretically speaking, it’s impossible. Although everyone’s sensitivity is different, and the degree to which hypnosis can be accepted varies, the conditions and effects you’ve mentioned are too exaggerated. I personally think it’s impossible.”

Qian nodded, also baffled.

”The humanistic school suggests that hypnosis is about guiding the patient to face their subconscious, ultimately the patient acts as the subject, and the psychologist merely helps create an appropriate environment. Even in past treatments, reconstructing the subconscious world for patients with mood disorders was done based on initiating her inner subconscious. If she had it, we would pull it out; but what I’ve described involves completely implanting a new consciousness, not belonging to the patient.”

Just like when Qian helped a girl traumatized by a male to reshape her mindset, the patient liked Bad Bunny, so Qian helped her grow Bad Bunny to combat negative experiences—assuming she originally had a little bunny in her mind.

Mr. Liu had also teased Shi Yu before, using hypnosis to ask her some things, but those were Shi Yu’s true thoughts—Mr. Liu merely guided, not implanted.

In Shi Yu’s case, she internally didn’t have any of those chaotic thoughts, like money, friendship, jealousy, which contradicted her personality, meaning these thoughts weren’t there in Shi Touyu’s heart, but forcibly implanted.

That’s why Shi Touyu could use her own consciousness to fight against these implanted ideas, and ultimately cooperate successfully with Qian for a counterattack plan.

Mr. Liu nodded, what Qian described was exactly what he was thinking.

”I once tried implanting new concepts, even collaborated with relevant departments to conduct experiments with prisoners serving heavy sentences in jail, but unfortunately, I failed. The subconsciousness I implanted had no effect.”

Mr. Liu had researched this direction before, even implanting healthy and positive subconsciousness during the transformation period for prisoners, hoping to reduce the likelihood of recidivism.

Although there were successful cases, the final data still didn’t meet expectations, resulting in a regrettable failure. To most people, once concepts form, it’s hard to change regardless of efforts, especially when environment and mindset are interconnected. Returning to a bad environment, even for those who felt changed, often reverts, like addicts relapsing when reconnecting with old friends.

”Did you experiment many times before?” Qian asked.

Mr. Liu nodded, ”We were specially approved to form a small team for experimentation, treating each prisoner several times with little success. So you saying that a half-hour can achieve such results is very unlikely—where did you encounter such a case, Little Cannonball?”

”I... read it in a book.” Qian didn’t disclose Shi Yu’s case, feeling that the teacher would definitely dive deep and research if he knew.

”Things written in books are always exaggerated to some extent. We’re a science exploring through practice, don’t believe in those vague things. But I did hear recently that there’s a foreign hypnotist claiming to achieve what you mentioned. I’d love to get in touch with them to study how they’re doing it.”

”Foreign?” Qian caught the keyword.

”Yes, it is a very mysterious organization, somewhat similar to those like you who charge exorbitantly, but even more with no bottom line. It’s said they’ll do anything for money, but I can’t contact them; otherwise, I’d love to see what tricks they have.”

Qian rolled her eyes, ”Teacher, when speaking of others, could you not involve me? How have I charged exorbitant prices?”

”Charging thousands per hour—isn’t that your outrageous price? Little Cannonball, I’m telling you, pricing is your business, I don’t care, but if you become like those without a bottom line, doing anything damaging, then don’t see me anymore.”

Mr. Liu insisted that doctors should have a bottom line, it’s a matter of principle.

Qian was silent, nodding after a long pause.

”I promise you, Teacher. Can’t we find these people?”

”I would love to find them too, but it’s difficult. Inviting them not only requires money but also a recommendation, meeting certain conditions... In short, it’s very complex.”

Mr. Liu was skeptical about this, feeling that domestic capabilities could still improve, yet seemingly contradicting her previous studies, she harbored a skeptical attitude wanting to discover their methods.

If they are true, she’d learn from it; but she still believed it’s theoretically infeasible.

”All because of you! You, if you’d followed Qi, might have been exposed to more people through him, but you stubbornly refused to follow!”

Mr. Qio was not only an industry authority but also traveled globally, surely knowing more information. It’s a shame Qian rejected such a resource, now Mr. Liu feels heartbroken thinking back.

”Even without him, I have my ways. Teacher, let me make you a cup of coffee, and let’s talk about my homework this week.”
