Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 726: Chapter 700: Do I Really Have to Marry Fugui?

Mr. Liao was accompanying Jia Xiufang with some yarn work, holding the yarn while Jia Xiufang rolled it into a ball. They watched as their composed eldest son ran around the room like his tail was on fire.

Jia Xiufang nudged Mr. Liao, ”What’s going on with Fugui?”

”I don’t know.”

”Did he get a girlfriend?” Jia Xiufang perked up immediately at the mention of this.

”This morning, Qian’er’s mother-in-law called me, saying she has a few girls in mind, all suitable matches. This batch is quite good, all selected from hospitals, Qian’er’s mother-in-law’s hospital picked some, and so did Qian’er’s sister-in-law’s hospital. Fugui’s marriage needs to be settled soon, or in a few years... he might have to look for a divorced one.”

Mr. Liao calmly looked at his later wife, ”As long as he finds one, even with a child, it’s fine.”

For Liao Fugui’s marriage, the parents’ expectations have lowered to just finding someone to prevent him from being single.

”I’ll call Qian’er later. Doesn’t she have any suitable friends? It’s worrying.”

Parents contemplating the marriage of their adult sons is something every parent does. With Fugui’s high education, he spent a long time in school. After working for two years, he’s now seen as an adult man on the brink of being unable to find a wife.

Mr. Liao watched his son pace around twice, dumping the tea leaves brought by an old classmate into a bag, and then he reached for his precious collection—

”Son, what are you doing with that?” That was a batch of premium golden chrysanthemum tea, which bloomed to a diameter of over ten centimeters, enough to fill a pot. Only a few like this come from an entire field. Someone gave him a box, and he had already set aside half for Qian, but now his silly son took the other half.

”Dad, you’re a man, it’s not good for you to drink something this floral.” Give it to Miss Softer, hoping she’ll have a good mood~

”...” Mr. Liao looked helplessly at Jia Xiufang, ”Maybe we don’t need to worry about this kid’s marriage after all.”

Sounds like it’s meant for a lady!

Qian felt satisfied.

Not only did she successfully annoy the Ma Family today, brainwash Liumei, and provoke Mai, but she also tested and found that Fugui seemed to care about Liumei, deriving her happiness from teasing those around her, which improved her mood greatly.

Her eyes landed on the bright, innocent Liumei. Liumei seemed eager to know what Qian and Fugui had talked about but was too shy to ask, which amused Qian.

”Liumei, did the fortune teller say—”

”She’s my mentor!”

”Okay, so did your mentor say you must marry Liao Fugui, or you should marry Liao Fugui?”

Yu Minglang and the others almost burst out laughing. Hey, was that slip intentional?

Such an obvious slip-up, everyone heard it, but somehow someone didn’t, and that someone was Liumei, who naturally responded to Qian.

”My mentor said I should get married this year, not necessarily to Fugui, but there’s something about a Wenqu Star... Wait!! Fugui?!”

Suddenly, her face turned red. Ah! How did she end up mentioning Fugui?

”Oh~~ Fugui!” Qian and the others exaggeratedly stretched out the words, making Liumei blush even more.

”Guys, stop teasing me! I have a boyfriend, you can’t make these kinds of jokes!”

”How is this a joke? If we ignore your boyfriend for a moment, don’t I get annoyed just thinking about him—put him aside, who isn’t better than him? I think Fugui is pretty good!”

Yu Minglang spoke straightforwardly and efficiently; after he spoke, both Qian and the others nodded.

”Right, my stepbrother is a good guy, and if you marry him, his mother would be like your mom, no in-law troubles. You mentioned the Wenqu Star? Doesn’t that fit Fugui, the big PhD?”

Qian was on Yu Minglang’s side. If we’re really talking about academic success, apart from Qian, it had to be Fugui. Strictly speaking, Qian wasn’t as academically prosperous as Fugui. After her PhD, Qian dove into making money.

Fugui was different. In the future, aside from being a forensic officer, he would also become a graduate advisor, nurturing many talents in forensic psychology.

The more these people teased, the more shy and nervous Liumei became, her heartbeat speeding up, feeling the prank was overdone. How could they joke about the honest Fugui like this?

”If you keep this up, I’ll get mad. How can you just pair him up with someone when he’s kindly bringing us food?”

”How is that random? He brings us food, and we introduce a good wife to him. Isn’t that great?”

”Exactly, this is a steal for that silly kid. It’s only because he gets along well with my mother-in-law and little brother-in-law that I let him off. If any other guy wanted to pursue my sister, I’d beat him up—like that Ma Lv, I’ll find a chance to deal with him sooner or later.”

Yu Minglang still bore a grudge.

Honestly, with his job keeping him constantly busy, even though he visits his mother-in-law and brother-in-law whenever he can, his energy is limited. Fugui genuinely stepped up as a son over these past two years, so Yu Minglang would find fault with anyone but not with Fugui, especially with Ma Lv, the jerk, serving as a comparison. Suddenly, Fugui seemed adorable.

”I can’t talk to you all anymore, I’m leaving!” Liumei, unable to win the argument, blushed and fled.

”Shouldn’t you stop her, Qian’er?” asked Shui Xian, turning to Qian.

”Haste makes waste; this amount is just right.” Qian was full of confidence, seeing Liumei’s attitude suggesting she didn’t dislike Fugui; otherwise, someone as straightforward as Liumei would have laughed and joked along.

Going red in the face and even getting upset, this sort of shy reaction suggested that there was hope for Fugui.

Now Qian was looking forward to it. If Fugui showed some spunk and had some boldness, Liumei might just change boyfriends by tomorrow!

The next day, Qian was still asleep when Yu Minglang went out to buy breakfast. Shui Xian and Liumei, back from her morning exercise, were having their breakfast when there was a knock on the door.

”I’ll get the door, it might be my brother,” Liumei said, going to open it.

Outside stood a man with bags, but it wasn’t Yu Minglang.

”Oh, it’s Fugui!”

Liumei was a bit surprised to see that it was Liao Fugui, she knew he was coming yesterday, but she didn’t expect him so early, practically at dawn!

Her sister-in-law wasn’t even up yet.

Liao Fugui instantly smelled the familiar lemon scent!

”I’m here to see Qian’er.”

”Sister-in-law isn’t home.”

”Then I’m here to see you!”

He regretted saying it as soon as it was out.

Liao Fugui wished he could slap himself for speaking without thinking; even if that’s what he was thinking, he couldn’t say it so directly, a little subtlety would have been better, now it’s just awkward.

Thankfully, Liumei was quick-witted enough not to blurt out ”What do you want with me?” which would have made the situation even more awkward. Instead, she stepped aside to let Fugui, with his bags, into the house. Yet, because of the joke her sister-in-law made yesterday, Liumei now felt embarrassed even looking at Fugui, something felt off.
