Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 35: Chapter 35: So It Was Meant for Her

Qian was filled with anger as she entered the courtyard, and she heard her mother’s deafening cries.

Qian went inside, and before she could steady herself, her mother rushed over and gave her a tight bear hug, accompanied by the sound of her crying with snot running down her face, making her ears hurt.

”Ni Jianren has caught a contagious disease, the wedding can’t happen... Boohoo, my poor daughter, don’t worry, mom will find you a better one, don’t get worked up, please don’t get worked up!”

Qian felt that she wasn’t initially upset, but her mom’s dramatic expression was agitating her.

”Did Jianren come?”

”Boohoo!” Jia Xiufang cried loudly, making Qian’s ears hurt. Qian backed away a bit and looked at Chen Lin, who was sitting silently smoking a cigarette.

This old man was upset. If Ni Jianren didn’t come, the bride price was supposed to be given next week, and suddenly this happens, losing a substantial income.

”Their family is too much, if he’s sick why didn’t they say earlier? Hepatitis B, Qian’er, you’ve eaten with him before, you should go to the hospital with mom tomorrow and get tested, okay?” Jia Xiufang was afraid her daughter might catch it too.

Qian knew that Jianren was just using the illness as an excuse, and eating is not a transmission path for hepatitis B, but she was intrigued by the mention of going to the hospital.

”Yeah, tomorrow we’ll go, you accompany me.”

Her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer ten years later in her past life; a checkup now could allow early treatment, preventing it from turning cancerous later.

”Going to the hospital costs money, why bother with complications? Just buy some fatty meat, see if Qian’er can eat it. If she can, then all is well, hepatitis makes fatty meat nauseating...”

Chen Lin was stingy about the money.

Jia Xiufang was furious and went over to shove him, ”Are you really her father? Huh? You found your daughter such a thing, and he’s sick! If Qian’er marries him, what about her whole life!”

”Is it as serious as you say? Mrs Li from the street has hepatitis, hasn’t she lived with Li for a lifetime? This disease doesn’t kill people, Qian’er marrying over there...”

”How dare you say that! Chen Lin, how can you let our daughter marry someone with a contagious disease? If you dare to screw over your daughter like this, I’ll kill myself, I won’t live!”

Jia Xiufang usually relied on Chen Lin for big and small things, but today she was truly anxious, daring to shout back at him.

”You shrew, jabbering nonsense, dying, dying! If you dare, die! Die right now!” Chen Lin, caught cheating, was acting meek all day, but his anger rose now that the bride price was ruined. He raised his hand as if intending to hit Jia Xiufang like he usually would.

Qian saw this and grabbed her mother to shield her, without any courtesy, addressing Chen Lin directly.

”Had enough? Didn’t have enough from yesterday?!”

Chen Lin raised his hand, but seeing Qian’s cold sharp eyes and feeling her vibe, he put his hand down again, cursed, and continued smoking on the ground.

Qian saw Chen Lin’s worried face, adjusted her glasses, and felt suspicious.

She knew Chen Lin wasn’t worried about her future; his words made it seem he still wanted her to marry Jianren, even if Jianren already claimed to be ”sick.” Could it be, Chen Lin had gotten into some trouble and desperately needed money?

Qian dragged her mom into the inner room while Jia Xiufang cried, snot and tears pouring out.

”Don’t cry, mom, think carefully, how much money is left in our savings book?”

Qian remembered, in her past life, after Chen Lin received the bride price, he’d allegedly partnered to start a business using tens of thousands of yuan, claiming to buy a truck to run long-distance. A few months later, he got back only a photo of the truck wrecked, claiming a traffic accident, losing all the money.

But given Chen Lin’s behavior now, Qian thought Chen Lin lied in her past life; he’s now in need of money for some reason.

When Qian mentioned money, Jia Xiufang wiped her tears, thought a bit, and said.

”Last month I just withdrew 500 yuan, didn’t your maternal grandma need cataract surgery, and all of us pooled money together? After withdrawing the money, there might be less than 20,000 yuan left on the savings book. The two-story building we built owes a lot; all the money earned over the years is used to repay it.”

”Find the savings book and check how much is left.”

”Why are you suddenly caring about the money?”

Qian decided to tell Jia Xiufang about her college admission. Just as she was about to take out the admission notice, someone shouted from outside.

”Is this Chen Lin’s house? We’re from White Swan Electrical Store, delivering a fan to your home!”

Jia Xiufang quickly wiped her tears and loudly responded, walking out.

Qian followed her outside, watching the workers from the store continuously carry things inside, raising her brows slightly.

The fan isn’t that large, but the workers were bringing massive parcels inside.

”What’s going on, we only bought a fan?” Jia Xiufang was confused, and Chen Lin glared at her, you’re spoiling things like this; just accept the freebies silently!

”Our boss had a promotion, said when your girl bought the fan, she was the 100th customer, won a prize. All of these are gifts from our shop.” The worker recited the script that the boss had prepared earlier.

Jia Xiufang saw, wow, along with pots, blankets, kettles, snacks?

This is too much...

”Are you sure this wasn’t sent by mistake?” She’d never seen such good service, buying a fan and getting so many things!

Seeing his wife being foolish, Chen Lin pushed Jia Xiufang away, ”Stop talking nonsense, how could there be a mistake? You probably still need to deliver to other homes, quickly go, don’t delay.”

The delivery workers were almost pushed out of the courtyard by Chen Lin, business abandoned; he locked the door immediately.

Afraid of delay and the things being taken back.

”Quickly, move everything inside!” Chen Lin instructed.

Qian stared at the pile, especially the Hello Kitty on the blanket; it looked so familiar...

”The boss must have misplaced them; a fan costs so little, and the blanket is pricey. Look at its label, aren’t you worried they sent it wrong and the worker will be punished?” Jia Xiufang examined the items and found they were for young girls.

”It’s not us getting punished anyway, stuff arrived on our doorstep, no way to return them. Hurry, move them inside!” Chen Lin became energetic taking advantage of the situation.

”Move everything into my room, perfect for me.” Qian finally understood where the heap came from.

Yu Minglang had mentioned earlier, she remembered.

He said if you can’t find him, look for Mr. Zhao, he’s a friend. The electrical store owner, Hai Zhao, is indeed Mr. Zhao that Yu referred to! It’s possible Yu saw her at the store and made this happen.

Hmm, she decided to take back that curse of childlessness she placed on Yu, realizing now the bedding was meant for her...
