Helping Beautiful Women Become Stronger, I Have a Love System

192: Chapter 192 Good Deeds Go UnrewardedCao Kun’s words were clear and detailed, each word striking Lou Dong’s heart like a heavy hammer.

Lou Dong’s face grew increasingly pale, his lips trembling. Unable to find words to refute, he could only stiffen his neck and roar, ”Bullshit! This is malicious slander! I’m going to sue you!”

Cao Kun turned to look at Shang Yuya, his tone softening slightly with a hint of persuasion.

”Shang Yuya, I know you don’t want to believe it, but this is the truth.”

”When you fell into the water just now, he was right by the boat. He clearly knows how to swim, yet he had no intention of saving you. He just stood there shouting for help. Think about it yourself—is that normal?”

”He simply wanted you to drown!”

Shang Yuya’s eyes were filled with struggle. She looked at the furious Lou Dong, then at the serious Cao Kun, her mind a tangled mess.

Cao Kun’s words were very persuasive, and the details matched up, but she still didn’t want to believe Lou Dong would harm her.

She remembered Lou Dong’s tenderness and consideration over the past week and his promises for the future. Shaking her head, she spoke to Cao Kun.

”Stop it... Dong Zi isn’t that kind of person.”

”The boat capsizing really was an accident. He was shouting for help just now too. He wanted to save me; it’s just that his swimming skills aren’t good and he didn’t dare come over.”

”How can you still refuse to come to your senses!” Cao Kun looked at her state, his anger flaring.

”No matter how bad his swimming is, saving someone who has already stopped struggling is no problem! He deliberately didn’t save you! Look at him now—it’s all an act!”

”Enough!”

Shang Yuya suddenly raised her voice and shouted at Cao Kun.

”I believe Dong Zi! I don’t believe you! You’re a madman who keeps trying to drive a wedge between us as husband and wife! Just leave, we don’t need your help!”

Seeing this, Lou Dong immediately struck while the iron was hot, snarling at Cao Kun, ”Did you hear that? My wife doesn’t believe you! You lunatic, get lost! Or I’ll call the police right now and sue you for harassment and slander!”

As he spoke, he grabbed the gunwale again, trying to climb onto the yacht.

Looking at Shang Yuya’s determined gaze, the last bit of Cao Kun’s patience vanished.

He finally understood. This woman had been completely brainwashed by Lou Dong; even seeing the truth with her own eyes, she refused to believe it.

He had kindly saved her, only to end up being accused of harassment and slander. It was utterly ridiculous.

”Fine, very well!” Cao Kun laughed out of sheer anger. He stood up, not even glancing at Lou Dong who was trying to climb aboard.

”Since you trust him so much, I won’t bother with you anymore. If you ever encounter something like this again, don’t expect anyone to come to your rescue!”

With that, Cao Kun turned and walked to the driver’s seat, starting the yacht.

The yacht jolted and sped toward the shore, leaving Lou Dong splashing alone in the water.

Lou Dong hadn’t expected Cao Kun to suddenly drive away. Startled, he nearly choked on the lake water.

Watching the yacht recede, a flicker of malevolence flashed in his eyes, but it was mostly relief.

Fortunately, that troublemaker was gone, and Shang Yuya didn’t suspect him.

”Yuya, don’t be afraid. I’m coming up now to take you home.”

Lou Dong shouted to Shang Yuya on the yacht, then laboriously swam to the overturned small boat, trying to flip it back over.

He exerted immense effort to finally right the small boat, then climbed in, picked up the oars, and chased after the yacht Shang Yuya was on.

However, the speed of the pedal boat was far slower than the yacht. By the time he rowed to the shore, Cao Kun had long since departed.

Shang Yuya sat on the yacht’s deck, soaked through and shivering.

Lou Dong rowed the small boat to the shore. After jumping off, he immediately ran to her side and asked with concern, ”Yuya, how are you? Do you feel unwell anywhere? It’s all my fault. I didn’t handle the boat well and made you suffer so much.”

Shang Yuya shook her head, her voice still weak. ”I’m fine... just a bit cold. Let’s go home.”

”Okay, we’re going home right now.”

Lou Dong nodded, helped Shang Yuya up, and walked to the boat rental booth. He returned the keys for the small boat and the yacht to the Old Man and collected the deposit.

Throughout the process, he supported Shang Yuya with great care, as if afraid of any accident. The worry on his face looked incredibly sincere.

The two walked home along the street. Passersby cast curious glances at their soaked state.

Shang Yuya instinctively leaned closer to Lou Dong, trying to avoid those gazes.

Lou Dong held her hand tightly, constantly comforting her in a tone so gentle it seemed it could melt.

”It’s all my fault; I shouldn’t have taken you rowing,” Lou Dong said with a face full of self-reproach.

”If we hadn’t gone rowing, this wouldn’t have happened. Don’t worry, I’ll never take you to do anything dangerous again.”

Shang Yuya leaned on his shoulder and said softly, ”It’s not your fault. It was just an accident. I don’t blame you.”

Her voice was very soft, carrying a trace of imperceptible fatigue and confusion.

The fear of falling into the water and Cao Kun’s words had still left a mark in her heart, though she was unwilling to dwell on it.

The two returned home in silence.

Lou Dong first helped Shang Yuya sit on the sofa, then went to the bathroom to get two dry towels. He handed one to her and used the other to dry his own hair.

”Dry yourself off first. I’ll go boil some hot water for you to drink and warm up so you don’t catch a cold.” After speaking, Lou Dong turned and went into the kitchen.

Shang Yuya held the dry towel, mechanically wiping her hair and cheeks.

Her gaze was vacant as she looked ahead, Cao Kun’s words and the scene of falling into the water echoing repeatedly in her mind.

She tried hard to push away those bad thoughts, but the more she forced herself, the clearer they became.

As Lou Dong boiled the water in the kitchen, the gentleness and concern on his face vanished instantly, replaced by intense gloom and irritation.

He leaned against the kitchen wall, clenching his fists so hard his knuckles turned white.

Damn it!

Who exactly was that stranger?

Why did he have to ruin his plans!

At the thought of his plan’s total failure—the two million insurance payout gone, while the loan sharks were still waiting for him to pay them back—Lou Dong felt a surge of despair.

”What should I do? What on earth should I do?” Lou Dong screamed inwardly.

He had pinned all his hopes on this plan to murder his wife for insurance. Now that it had failed, he had no other way to scrape together 580,000.

Borrow from relatives and friends?

He had long since borrowed from everyone he knew. Moreover, because of his gambling, his reputation was in tatters; no one was willing to lend him money anymore.

Was he really going to let the loan sharks chop off his hand?

At the thought of such a scene, Lou Dong trembled all over, fear flooding him like a tide.

He couldn’t lose his hand. Without it, he would be completely crippled, unable to earn money or even take care of himself.
