Helping Beautiful Women Become Stronger, I Have a Love System

184: Chapter 184 Murdering Wife for InsuranceThe solution Lou Dong thought of was to kill his wife for the insurance payout.

That was why he had completely changed his usual behavior.

He spent time accompanying Shang Yuya on outings and even bought accident insurance for her.

In truth, Lou Dong still had feelings for Shang Yuya in his heart.

But he was truly driven to desperation.

He didn’t want to lose his hand.

Having no other choice, he resorted to this desperate measure.

However, the insurance he bought didn’t take effect immediately; it would only become active after seven days.

Lou Dong decided to use these seven days to think of other ways.

On one hand, he didn’t really want to kill Shang Yuya.

On the other hand, he was afraid that his insurance fraud would be discovered during the investigation and the insurance company wouldn’t pay out.

If he could get the money within these seven days, that would be best; if not, then so be it.

...

Five days passed quickly.

At two o’clock in the morning on this day, Shang Yuya was already asleep.

Lou Dong lay on the sofa, eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling.

The lights in the living room were off; only the occasional sweep of headlights from cars passing by outside cast fleeting shadows on the wall.

There were two days left before the insurance took effect.

There were also only two days left until the loan shark’s deadline.

During these five days, he had tried every possible method.

He called everyone he knew to borrow money.

His former friends either didn’t pick up or said they were also having difficulties.

A few answered, but as soon as they heard it was about borrowing money, they immediately made excuses to hang up.

He went to several small loan companies to apply for credit.

His credit score was already ruined, and with records of overdue payments, he was rejected by all of them.

He had thought of every way to get money, but he still couldn’t scrape enough together.

He really didn’t know what to do anymore.

Was he really going to take the step of killing his wife for insurance?

He thought of the loan shark’s threat from a few days ago.

If he didn’t pay back the money, they would chop off his hand.

A wave of fear washed over Lou Dong.

Especially since he had personally seen someone get their finger chopped off.

The scene at the time had nearly made him wet himself in terror.

He knew he absolutely couldn’t end up like that.

But...

He turned his head toward the bedroom.

The door was slightly ajar, and the sound of Shang Yuya’s even breathing came from inside.

She was sleeping very soundly, and there seemed to be a faint smile at the corner of her mouth.

During the day today, they had cooked and watched TV together; she had laughed like a child.

That was what he owed her.

The ”kindness” of these past few days was the best he had ever treated her in his life.

Cooking, washing dishes, mopping the floor, chatting with her, watching dramas with her... he had done all these things that he had never done before.

Looking at her smile, his heart wasn’t without a stir of emotion.

For a few moments, he even thought: Why not just forget it? Go turn himself in? Go to prison? At least his hand would still be there.

But in the next second, the scarred face of the Baldy would surface in his mind, along with that knife and the threat of losing a hand.

He was afraid.

He was truly too afraid.

”Youyou...” he murmured softly, his voice drifting away in the darkness.

No one answered.

Only the wind outside whimpered as it blew past.

...

The sixth day, evening.

Lou Dong had been restless at home all day.

Shang Yuya saw that something was wrong and asked him what happened; he only said, ”Work stuff is a bit annoying.”

Shang Yuya believed him and even comforted him, saying, ”It’s okay, take it slow.”

At six o’clock in the evening, his phone rang.

An unknown number.

He hesitated for a moment before answering.

”Lou Dong, come out and talk.” It was the Baldy’s voice.

Lou Dong’s heart sank instantly: ”I... I’m busy right now...”

”Busy?” The Baldy laughed. ”Then should I come up to find you? You’re in Building 7, Unit 402 of Hongqi Residential Complex, right?”

Lou Dong’s face turned pale in an instant.

”Don’t... don’t come up! I’ll go!” He lowered his voice. ”Where to?”

”The old place, forty minutes.”

The call disconnected.

Shang Yuya poked her head out from the kitchen: ”Who was it?”

”A friend, something came up, I’m going out for a bit.” Lou Dong grabbed his jacket.

”When will you be back?”

”Soon.” He didn’t dare look her in the eye. ”Go ahead and eat first, don’t wait for me.”

He fled out the door.

...

The so-called old place was an abandoned factory on the outskirts of the city.

By the time Lou Dong arrived, it was already dark.

Inside the dilapidated factory, several dark figures were either standing or sitting.

A rechargeable lamp sat on the ground, its pale light illuminating a small area.

The Baldy sat on a broken chair with a cigarette in his mouth. A large German Shepherd crouched at his feet, baring its teeth at Lou Dong.

”You’re here?” The Baldy tilted his chin. ”Sit.”

Lou Dong was in no mood to sit; he stood there, his legs already starting to shake.

”Where’s the money?” The Baldy was direct.

”Brother Guang, give me a few more days...” Lou Dong’s voice trembled. ”I’ll have it very soon...”

”Very soon?” The Baldy laughed and waved his hand.

Two thugs stepped forward, pinning Lou Dong from both sides.

The Baldy stood up, walked over to him, and pinched his chin, forcing him to look up.

”Lou Dong, how much time have I given you?” His eyes were cold. ”Do you think I’m running a charity?”

”Brother Guang, I’m really trying to find a way...”

”What way?” The Baldy let go and stepped back. ”I’ve checked all those friends of yours; not a single one has money to lend you. Your wife? Your wife has even less money. Where else can you get money from?”

Lou Dong opened his mouth but couldn’t speak.

The Baldy pulled a knife from his waist and patted it against his palm.

Under the moonlight, the blade glinted with a cold light.

”Did I ever tell you what kind of person I hate the most?”

Lou Dong didn’t dare to speak.

”What I hate most are people who owe money and don’t pay it back.” The Baldy slowly approached. ”When you’re borrowing money, your mouth is sweeter than honey. When it’s time to pay it back, you turn into a coward.”

The tip of the knife pressed against Lou Dong’s neck; the icy sensation made his whole body go stiff.

”Brother Guang... Brother Guang, spare me...” His voice shook. ”Give me two more days, I’ll definitely pay it back in two days!”

”Two days?” The Baldy laughed. ”You’ll have the money in two days?”

”Yes! Definitely!” Lou Dong nodded frantically.

The Baldy stared at him for a few seconds before suddenly retracting the knife.

”Fine,” he said. ”I’ll give you two more days. Two days from now, same place, eight o’clock in the evening. If the money arrives, you leave. If the money doesn’t arrive...”

He brandished the knife, making a mock slash in the air.

”Leave your hand behind.”

Lou Dong’s legs went weak, and he nearly collapsed to his knees.

The Baldy turned, preparing to leave.

After a few steps, he turned back again.

”By the way, don’t even think about running during these two days.” He pointed at Lou Dong. ”My people will be watching you. Your wife, the place where you live—someone will be watching everything. If you dare to run...”

He smiled slightly, leaving the sentence unfinished.

But that smile was more terrifying than any threat.

The men disappeared into the darkness.

Lou Dong slumped to the ground, drenched in cold sweat.

...

Lou Dong didn’t know how he had managed to drive back.

By the time he came to his senses, he had already parked the car downstairs at the Hongqi Residential Complex.

He sat in the car for a long time.

His hands were still shaking.

He looked at his hands.

Ten fingers, perfectly intact for now.

But in two days, they might...

He didn’t dare think about it.

His phone suddenly vibrated; it was a message from Shang Yuya.

”Are you coming back, hubby? I saved some food for you.”

Looking at this message, his eyes suddenly grew hot with tears.

Youyou.

His Youyou.

That silly woman, even after he had hit her so many times, she still believed in him, still loved him, and still waited for him to come home.

He remembered her back as she cooked in the kitchen during the day.

He remembered the way she smiled as she fed him fruit.

He remembered the look in her eyes when she said, ”Hubby, let’s keep being like this from now on, okay?”

Those eyes were full of anticipation.

She thought he had changed.

She thought the good days had begun.

She didn’t know that her ”good days” only had two days left.

Lou Dong slumped over the steering wheel and wept silently.

He cried for himself, for her, and for everything.

But as he cried, the Baldy’s knife surfaced in his mind again.

Two days.

If he didn’t pay the money, his hand would be gone.

If his hand was gone, his life would be over.

But, if Youyou...

He shook his head violently, casting the thought aside.

He couldn’t think about it.

He couldn’t think about it anymore.

He wiped away his tears, took a deep breath, and opened the car door.

He went upstairs.
