Chapter 641: Chapter 533 Eternal Friendship_4

Yet, in such a vast group, many had not let down their guard. Even more Rat-men, possessing inherently astonishing poison resistance, actually forced themselves to rise from the ground.

”Liar! LIARS!!!” the Naming Giver tasked with holding the fort shrieked. ”Ivory—Ivory Tower has deceived us! Re-Rebel! Kill these liars! Go find... find Evergreen...”

Lin Nineteen pursed his lips and reached into his pocket, about to draw his gun, when a piercing shriek suddenly erupted, leaving him rooted to the spot.

It was like thunder suddenly erupting from a secret chamber. Amidst the shrill sound, a jet-black arrow whistled through the air, pierced a Rat-man’s eye socket, dragged it backward, and pinned it to the wall that had only recently been painted.

Only half the fletching protruded, BUZZING in its eye socket.

”Dare you betray the contract!”

A harsh and solemn voice arose from among the Undead Army, who were nocking arrows and drawing their weapons. The aged Snake-man’s Elder had already stood up on a table, roaring at the Rat-men, ”You bunch of trash! Dare you make an enemy of the Undead Army!”

Cholulu, the Elder’s right-hand man, leaped forward, appearing several meters away in an instant. The Curved Knife in his hand hummed softly, scattering a spray of blood. Right behind him, the two Rat-men who had rushed forward the fastest, shouting the loudest, were sliced in half at the waist.

”Within three breaths, those who kneel will not be killed!”

Cholulu raised his hand. Behind him, over forty soldiers of the Snake-man Undead Army had already raised their black bows, drawn their strings taut, and aimed at the collapsed Rat-men.

Even without Huai Shi’s men lifting a finger, the turmoil ended as abruptly as it had begun.

Not long after, when Huai Shi returned to the hall, silence had already fallen. It was as if reverberating strings had been stilled by an invisible hand.

No one dared make a discordant sound in front of this young man anymore.

”Oh? So the Elder stepped in?”

After learning what had happened, Huai Shi sat at the head table. He took a warm towel from Yuan Yuan, wiped his hands, then finally settled in and looked up to ask, ”Why did you help me, Elder? At a time like this, wouldn’t it have been better to let the chaos escalate?”

The Snake-man’s Elder replied solemnly, ”The Undead Army has its pride. Even if we act as hunting dogs for others, we will not be hyenas that feast on rot. Besides, as your Mercenaries, isn’t it our duty to quell disturbances for you?”

”It’s rare for you to be so considerate. That’s excellent.”

Huai Shi smiled, then turned to the Gargoyle leader. ”Then why, when the Undead Army moved to suppress the turmoil, did the Gargoyles make no move?”

Behind the table, the Sturdy Gargoyle, who had been resting with his eyes closed, slowly opened his eyes and answered calmly, ”As the Commander, you issued no such order, did you?”

”That’s right.”

Huai Shi nodded and said approvingly, ”You both speak well, and you are both correct. With the support of your two Great Mobs, we are not far from victory in this war. Unfortunately, some people didn’t see it that way and instead made some regrettable mistakes...”

He paused, looking down with pity at the trembling Rat-men below. He shook his head and sighed, ”It truly leaves one feeling... helpless.”

Dead silence descended; no one spoke.

”There’s nothing to be done. The grave mistake has been made, and many things are now irreversible.”

Huai Shi sighed softly. ”But we cannot dwell on the past. One must look forward, not haggle over minor details, nor take out the misdeeds of a few on the many. Isn’t that right?”

”...”

Many Rat-men lifted their heads in surprise, wanting to echo Huai Shi’s words.

But when they looked up and met those black eyes, they found themselves unable to speak. It was as if that gaze had seized their hearts, their bodies stiffening until they could hardly breathe.

”You should have all heard the promise Alec made.”

Huai Shi continued calmly, ”All of your lives have been sold to the Ivory Tower for the price of four hundred Source Crystals. This is the covenant Alec signed with his own blood.

”So, I declare: From now on, all of you will be eternal slaves of the Iron Crystal Throne, serving here until the end of your lives.

”In life, you will fight for the Ivory Tower. In death, your bodies shall also become the unbreakable foundation of the Ivory Tower here in Hell.

”Your service will end only when I deem that the fruits of your labor are sufficient to redeem your lives. Until then, no one can break this unbreakable bond between us.

”I look forward to your enthusiastic performance on the front lines. I also guarantee that even if you fall in battle, I will ensure the payment for your lives reaches your tribes.”

As his calm words echoed, a stern chill slowly spread through the hall.

Under the indifferent gaze of the Crow Flock and the watchful eyes of the Department of Justice, not a single Rat-man dared to speak. As members of a Great Mob, each of them was the property of their Owner of the Great Mob. Besides, among Abyss Ratmen, the concept of ’human rights’ simply didn’t exist.

Now that Huai Shi was willing to spare their lives, they were too busy feeling fortunate to even think of gratitude, so who would be foolish enough to object?
