Chapter 640: Chapter 533 Eternal Friendship_3

The light almost blinded the rat-man’s beady little eyes. He, Alec, had never seen so many Source Crystals. Enough for him to marry how many filthy women and father how many little runts?

Not just him; the two subordinates behind him also stood frozen, forgetting to fight over the pistol.

Alec’s mouth watered as he instinctively reached for those boxes.

But Huai Shi seemed to finally muster his courage, placing his hand on a box.

”Wait!”

”What is it?” Alec frowned, his expression quickly turning ferocious. ”You want to go back on your word?”

”The promised money will definitely be given to you.”

Huai Shi stared at him, his expression tensing. ”But... if you take the money, you should do the job, right?”

Alec was taken aback for a moment, then a smile broke across his face.

”Don’t worry, that’s a given.”

He patted his chest and assured with a loud voice. After all, talking didn’t cost anything, and with no contract signed, what use were empty promises? Naturally, he wanted to get the money first.

He snatched the box impatiently, caressing the Source Crystals inside, almost drooling. ”Our Fang Tribe is as good as our word! Once we take your money, we’ll definitely give our lives in your service! All out until, dead, dead, dead...”

”Is that so? Then that’s good.”

The young man sitting opposite him breathed a sigh of relief and waved his hand with a smile. ”No need for ’laying down one’s life’; how cumbersome—just dying will do.”

Silence fell suddenly.

Amidst the dazzling light of the Source Crystals, Alec finally sensed something was wrong. He looked up, but no sound came from his two subordinates behind him. No one knew where they had disappeared to.

Only the eerie sound of chewing came from the darkness.

On the display screen, a white rat sat on the sofa, clutching Source Crystals and looking around blankly, the smile from moments before still lingering on its face.

But behind the spacious sofa, one dark figure after another slowly emerged. It was Huai Shi’s shadow, stretched to an unnatural degree. From behind it, more dark forms swelled up, coalescing into pitch-black silhouettes that grinned menacingly at Alec.

He froze and instantly tried to draw his sword.

But he couldn’t pull it out.

More precisely, when the shadow behind him raised its hand and laid it on his shoulder, all his resistance was stripped away. Neither the Border Relics hidden on his person, nor the immense power he possessed, not even the noble status of a Clothed, allowed him to resist that one cold palm.

After leaving the range of Paradise, the power of the Department of Justice naturally decreased, but no matter how it fluctuated, their essence never changed. They were rules created by Paradise, covenant spirits formed from fairy tales and dreams.

Even though they had fallen into Hell, this pure essence had never altered in the slightest—each of them was a movable Border Relic, a Hell Contract shaped like a person.

The moment Alec nodded, it was as if he had sold the lives of his entire tribe for that pile of Source Crystals.

For a mere Clothed to plan on reneging on a deal witnessed by them was nothing but a joke.

”You little shit, what do you think you’re doing!”

In an instant, Alec’s eyes turned blood-red, and he roared angrily, ”Let them go at once! Believe it or not, I’ll make you pay!”

”Hmm? Didn’t you personally say you’d sell your life? And weren’t you going to ’give your all until death’ as well?”

The figure, his back to the screen, calmly retorted, a hint of a smile in his voice as he spread his hands. ”Now, I’ve already given you the money. Please give me your life.”

Alec roared, struggling violently.

But under the gaze of the Department of Justice’s shadows, he could not move. Soon, his fierce and ferocious appearance vanished without a trace, replaced by a smoothly manufactured, ingratiating grin. ”Sir, sir, don’t be like this. I was... I was just joking... all jokes, jokes!”

”But I’m not joking,” Huai Shi sighed calmly.

”Just sit there. Don’t move.”

He rose slowly, meticulously rolling up his frayed suit sleeve, then unbuttoned his shirt cuffs, folding them up twice to reveal his well-toned forearms, and announced softly to Alec, ”—I’ll take it with my own hands.”

Alec’s eyes widened, and he tried to scream, but two hands suddenly clamped over his mouth from behind. Immediately after, Huai Shi’s shadow fell over his eyes.

A magnificent Sacrificial Knife emerged from slender fingers, moved forward, and pierced Alec’s throat, silencing all struggle.

Then, with practiced ease, it twisted halfway around.

Like a ripe fruit falling from its stem.

The moment Huai Shi made his move, chaos began to spread from the hall.

Seeing their leader subdued by Huai Shi, most of the rat-people immediately pulled weapons from beneath the cushions they sat on and, roaring and screaming, sought to create mayhem.

But then, it was as if some cage had been opened.

A tide of crows howled in, engulfing the ceiling like dark clouds that enveloped all the rat-people beneath. Countless indifferent, crimson eyes, like stars, stared down, gazing at their prey.

Before the rat-people could resist, their bodies suddenly felt weak, their strength drained. The world before them darkened, and it seemed that countless mushrooms sprouted from their food, dancing hand in hand around them like little people. Soon, dense rashes and blisters sprang up on their faces and bodies.
