What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?

Chapter 997: It’s Sonic Again

Well... Obviously I still lost the game since I died and honestly, that fight took a bit out of me so I decided to log out for now.

I let out a breath as the machine shut itself down, putting me back in the real world again.

I listened to the hum of the machine slowly quiet down until the cover opened up for me to step out.

But before I could even step out of the machine, a figure practically crawled under the cover to climb their way inside and jumped on top of me.

If it weren’t for the fact that I spotted the cat ears when they climbed in, I might have just sent them flying away with my telekinesis before they even attempted that.

”Bosssssss!!! That was so gooooood!!” Ries cheered, landing on top of my waist to straddle me while rubbing her cheek against mine.

I blinked at her before slowly reaching up to pat her head, ”Umm... What do you mean? I kind of got owned by that guy?”

”Nyaaaa!! You didn’t notice?! That was SonicSlayer again!! I can’t believe you got matched up with him for this! And you managed to kill him!! You should see the stream!! Vieretha is already uploading the clip!!”

She quickly pulled out her personal terminal where she projected a screen in front of us to show me a video.

It was the stream rewound back a few minutes shown from the perspective of the guy I was fighting instead.

Below the video itself was the name of the streamer where the words ’SonicSlayer’ was displayed prominently.

The chat logs were flying at a rapid pace but I managed to catch sight of some of them that were commenting on the fight they were witnessing.

”Holy crap, how is that guy fighting Sonic like that?!”

”He’s really on par with Sonic!”

”That’s a hacker! Fucking report him!!”

”Yeah! Quickly report him and get him banned from the match!!”

”He’s got moves though!”

The chat logs scrolled even faster as we reached the end of the fight and it looked like SonicSlayer was going to kill me.

”Yeah!! Get him Sonic!”

”As expected of Sonic!”

”He’s still the undisputed champion!”

”Fuck him up!”

”His hacks won’t save him from this!!”

Well... We all know how it ends as I snatched the grenade from their waist and activated it, holding it in my hands right as he delivered the final blow that will turn me into light particles.

The chat exploded with a mix of congratulations, all of them believing their streamer had won since the stream only showed what the streamer could see. And in their position, their line of sight was locked on my face and their own arm was hiding my action of taking their grenade from their waist.

They were still in the midst of cheering on their streamer only for the guy to suddenly be hit with an explosion and dying as well.

A whole stream of confused messages filled the chat, wondering what happened to their streamer.

Most of them thought that it was another party joining in the fight at the last moment and took advantage of the streamer’s fight with me to launch a surprise attack on them.

But there seemed to be a replay function where it showed from a third person’s perspective of what just happened to them, allowing everyone to see me snatch their grenade and activate it before letting it blow up at their feet.

There was actually a short moment where the entire chat log paused for a moment, where all the viewers were just looking at the screen and not typing anything at all as their brains worked overtime in comprehending what they had just witnessed.

Then the chat exploded again with various different messages.

”Holy shit!! You can do that?!”

”This is the first time I’ve seen someone pull something like that!!”

”What the fuck?!! Who the fuck is that guy?!!”

”Cheater!! That guy’s definitely a hacker!! Ban him!! We have to find out who he is in real life!!”

”Someone managed to kill Sonic in this game?! What the heck?! Is this the end times?!”

”Does that guy have a stream channel too?!”

”Fuck! Fuck! Guys! Guys!! I found out who that guy is!!”

”What?! Who?!! Spill it!! Why are you leaving us in suspense?!!”

”It’s the same guy who managed to beat Sonic with the Verlandi!! Look at their gamertag!! It’s the same one!!”

The chat log slowed down almost immediately, no doubt from the viewers all rushing to check the GalaNet to see if it was true.

Ries proudly opened another screen to show the page of our video channel where Vier had already edited the recording and showed the clip of my battle with SonicSlayer, leaving no doubt that it was me.

It only took a few more seconds before the chat went back to exploding again.

”Holy fuck!! It really is the same guy!!”

”This guy’s Sonic’s nemesis!!”

”We’ve got a rival now!!”

”Just who the fuck is this guy?!! How the fuck is he so good?!!”

”Oh shit, it’s really him?! Does anyone know who he is?”

”Wait guys!! This isn’t a he! That’s a she!!”

”How the fuck do you know?”

”Check the other videos!! She’s a Merc! She’s not even a professional gamer!!”

”How the fuck can you even tell that this is a girl from just that?”

The next thing that popped up was a screenshot of one of our videos, specifically during my bug nest extermination hunt.

The screenshot showed my boobs popping out at the bottom of the frame, leaving no doubt that the person that was recording the video was... Well endowed...

”Wooooaahhh!!”

”I’m saving this pic!!”

”Daaaaamnnn!!”

”I’m definitely following her now!!”

”I see two very big and compelling reasons why I should be her follower now!”

”She’s not a hacker! She’s just built different!”

”Fuck’s sake guys. It’s obvious she gene modded herself to get those things. Have you not even seen streamers like her before?”

”You’re just envious! Remember, she’s a Merc first and streamer second!”

”Those are definitely fake.”

I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at all the comments before turning to Ries, ”Yeah, ok... I get it... But are you sure this is even a good idea? I’m pretty sure people already know that the person in the video is me... The Mercs knew that it was me as well. So if you were to upload that video, that overseer guy might also realise that I am still alive?”

Ries giggled, ”Nyahaha! Don’t worry Boss! The only people who know what you actually look like are just the Mercs here! And I highly doubt that overseer guy would watch this stream anyway so we’re clear!! It’ll take at least some time before people connect you with the video that you are the same person!”

Well... I have my doubts about that, given how popular that SonicSlayer guy apparently is... So maybe that overseer guy might even be one of his fans...

But I trust my girls so I guess I’ll just follow along.

I mean... The worst thing that can happen is that the overseer realises that his assassination attempt had failed and flees the station instead of returning here. We would just lose out on taking some revenge on him and nothing else.

We would still get our reward and probably even extort some extra stuff from the station for the trouble that we had to endure.

Though... I would imagine my girls would definitely feel unsatisfied but since I wasn’t the one who caused it... It’s none of my business~

Do I want to beat that guy up? Sure~ But it’s not to the point that I would go out of my way for anyway.

Right then, a notification came from Ries’s personal terminal, prompting the both of us to look at the new window that popped up.

”What is it?” I asked.

Ries tapped on the screen, dismissing the screens that were still showing the stream of that SonicSlayer guy to reveal that we had received a few messages.

The first message was sent from Justin, telling us that the overseer guy had actually reached the station ahead of time and his ship was now docking with the station. Turns out I was worried for nothing about that part.

The second message came from an unknown contact that had sent a private message through our video channel.

Ries gave me a curious look, ”Hmm... We’ve been filtering out the spam and hate messages that were sent to our channel... For this one to get through... It must have been sent as a creator message instead.”

”Creator message? Wait... Could it be...”

Ries said nothing more as she tapped on the screen, bringing up the message in question as we both read its contents.

”Good day, I am SonicSlayer. If it is possible, could we arrange for a meetup? I would very much like to arrange for a collab if you are up for it. Please let me know at your earliest convenience.”

Oh.
