What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?

I descended two more floors after that, thankfully without incident.

For some reason, the silence was making me uneasy instead.

I doubt they would just give up after sending those guys after me so I’m expecting a trap of some sort at the least.

I even made sure to check each floor’s corridor and lift lobby just in case there was someone waiting to attack me from behind.

But it was quiet… Too quiet.

I pulled back on the cocking handle to check that the gun was properly loaded before descending the next flight of stairs.

Right now I was on the sixteenth floor and there was still no one around.

Did they already send everyone in this building after me?

Fuck…. Maybe they called for reinforcements and the longer I stay here, the more enemies I would need to deal with…

You know what? Screw it… I already have a shield anyway so I could at least take a few shots in case I run into an ambush, which should give me enough time to get back into cover.

I started running down the stairs instead of creeping down them like I had before, only slowing down around the corners to check that they were clear before running again.

Right as I was coming to the thirteenth floor however, I suddenly had a really uncomfortable feeling well up inside me which prompted me to slow down again.

I can’t explain why but I just had the feeling that there was something bad around the corner.

I tightened my grip on the gun and crept closer to the corner, keeping my body as close to the wall as I could while I moved closer to the landing that would put me in view of the next floor below.

As I reached the corner, I lowered myself into a half crouch to make myself a smaller target and lifted up my rifle such that I was pivoting around the tip of the barrel to advance.

As my gun reached the point of being perpendicular to the wall, I confirmed that the landing was secure.

I then moved on to turn the rest of the way to check that the thirteenth floor itself was secure.

The moment I could see the floor below, I realised that the thirteenth floor seemed to have been wrecked as there were piles of trash and discarded furniture littered around the place.

When I moved even further, I saw someone crouching behind one of the overturned furniture manning what looked like a machine gun that was propped up on top of said furniture.

Our eyes met and he immediately swivelled the machine gun towards the corner, prompting me to fall backwards right before the place I was occupying was lit up by a hail of machine gun fire.

Not only that, the sound of several other guns firing in my direction could also be heard.

Seems like I not only need to worry about the machine gunner but they chose to fortify this floor huh?

Right as I was thinking about tossing my last grenade there, I heard the door on the fourteenth floor creaking open.

Fuck, they really did set a trap for me!

With people above and a machine gun emplacement below, I was effectively pincered in with nowhere to retreat or advance to.

In the spur of the moment, I came up with a really crazy plan and tightened my grip on my ballistic rifle while my left hand reached behind to pull out the energy rifle.

With both guns in hand, I ran up the stairs right as a thug appeared with his rifle brandished to fire at me.

His shots went wild as he wasn’t expecting to see me rushing towards him and a quick burst from my ballistic rifle blasted three holes through his chest, sending him falling backwards.

I jumped the last few flights of steps and started firing my guns in the direction of where the first thug appeared even before I landed, blasting the two people behind him with a hail of kinetic and energy bullets.

Landing on my feet, I spun around to sink into a low crouch right as bullets whizzed above my head with one of them hitting against my shield as it blocked a bullet that was meant for my chest.

I then held down the trigger and blasted at the crowd of people that were still trying to stream in through the door.

Their numbers ended up being a hindrance as the ones that got shot fell back to crash against the thugs behind them, messing up their aim and preventing them from taking accurate shots at me, most of their rounds flying off to the sides.

My ballistic rifle clicked empty first and instead of reloading it, I tossed it away while still pulling the trigger on my energy rifle, emptying the energy cell rapidly as I scrambled back up to my feet to rush towards the door.

The moment that gun clicked empty as well, I threw it towards one of the thugs and smacked him right in the face while I snatched up a shotgun from one of the dead thugs.

I fired six buckshot rounds quickly into the doorway before that gun ran out of bullets as well and I abandoned it in favour of another energy rifle I took from another dead thug.

By then, the thugs that were still behind the doorway finally got a little smarter and waited for the shooting to stop before trying to get through the doorway again.

Unfortunately for them, I was not stopping and I leapt through the air to dropkick the thug that appeared at the doorway to send him flying back.

My energy rifle was also pointed at my feet so I went ahead to fire a few rounds into his chest while we were still airborne.

The momentum carried the both of us through the doorway and I turned my head back to see at least six other thugs hiding behind the wall, all of them looking at me in shock as I flew past them.

I spun around and grabbed the guy I just dropkicked, using him as a shield as I held down the trigger to deliver a burst of energy rounds at the doorway.

I managed to kill three of them before the gun ran out of energy and I cursed the thug who I had snatched this from since he already used up more than half of the ammunition if it had finished this quickly.

Dropping the empty gun, I reached for my meat shield’s sidearm as he tanked a few bullets for me, giving me time to aim the pistol at the remaining three thugs to shoot them each in the head and dropping them like puppets with their strings cut.

Right as I was thinking of relaxing, a ding came from the elevator to my left and I finally realised how they had planned to trap me.

I lifted up the dead thug and right as the doors opened, I kicked the corpse into the lift, surprising the group of thugs that had been inside the lift.

Lifting the pistol, I fired into the elevator, not even bothering to aim as I emptied the clip completely.

Unfortunately, that did not kill everyone as the corpse I threw into the lift was launched out and I narrowly managed to side step it from crashing into me.

One of the thugs let out a roar and lifted his rifle to point at me but I managed to smack the barrel away with the back of my hand so that the thug ended up shooting at the wall instead.

I pulled out my own pistol and rushed up ram my shoulder against him, shoving him back into the elevator and forcing the two other thugs behind him to get pushed against the wall.

I fired two rounds into his abdomen and he yelled out in pain before his knee came up to hit me in the side.

My breath came out in a gasp of pain as I instinctively took a step back, allowing him to shove me back outside the elevator before he tried to shoot at me again.

My shield saved me from being peppered with his bullets as it bought me time to recover to fire my pistol at him, the bullet piercing through his neck and killing him.

The last two thugs managed to run out of the elevator and one of them made a grab for my gun while the other tried to slash at me with a knife.

I had to shoot the guy with the knife which ended up blowing his brains out but the last guy managed to latch himself on my arm as he tried to wrestle the weapon out of my hand.

He was so focused on the pistol that he completely missed the fact I had one more hand which I used to punch him straight across the jaw.

As he stumbled back from me, I went ahead to end him with the last three bullets in my pistol, firing them into his chest and head.

Still running on adrenaline, I quickly re-equipped myself with another ballistic rifle and an energy rifle before I stepped into the lift filled with corpses and punched the button to bring the lift down a single floor.

I still had a machine gun emplacement below to deal with and I intend to do just that…

Oh hey, there’s a note attached next to the button I just pressed that says ’storerooms’. Maybe my stuff is there too?
