Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

The zombie was oblivious, but the combination of the Metal Spike and the lightning did indeed hinder its movements.

With a SQUELCH, the creature lifted its pierced foot, let out a savage roar, and lunged toward Zuo Li, feeling no pain.

Xie Ning took out her gun and fired two shots at its large head.

Even with two bullets piercing the back of its head, the Wind-type Zombie could still wave its arms, sending several Wind Blades relentlessly crashing toward Zuo Li.

Zuo Li planted one hand on the ground and did two quick sideways flips to dodge the Wind Blades. She then fiercely threw a dagger, which tore into the zombie’s neck with a RIP.

The creature threw its head back and roared erratically, then continued to limp and stumble toward Zuo Li.

Xie Ning raised an eyebrow. ”Looks like you were the object of its thirty thousand glances in a past life!”

Zuo Li braced herself on a nearby wrecked car, launched herself into the air with a SWOOSH, turned, and slammed a heavy Thunder Strike onto the zombie’s skull.

Although zombies had no senses, lightning could still slow their movements.

”Stop joking! As if I’d ever be interested in this ugly piece of crap.”

Xie Ning’s Metal Spike followed immediately, piercing the back of the zombie’s head with perfect precision and extracting a Wind System Crystal Core.

’A Second Order Wind System Zombie Crystal Core. Pretty good for that stinky little brother of mine.’

Xie Ning stuffed the Crystal Core into her pocket, ran around the burnt-out husk of the car to Zuo Li’s side, and said, ”Let’s go!”

But Zuo Li was staring at the open second-floor railing and yanked her behind her.

At the same time, a piercing shriek blasted toward them.

The frame of a car next to them was thrown backward, tumbling far into the distance before crashing to the ground in a CLATTER of scattered parts.

Xie Ning and Zuo Li had come prepared, knowing they were about to face a Sound Wave Zombie, so they had both put in noise-canceling earbuds.

The shriek’s impact on them wasn’t actually that significant.

But the two had agreed on a plan before they drove over.

For dramatic effect, the appropriate reaction now was...

Zuo Li dove to the ground and rolled twice.

Seeing Zuo Li’s committed performance, Xie Ning, with a deadpan expression, clutched her chest, coughed loudly a few times, then squatted down, holding her head and swaying back and forth while letting out pained hisses.

With an act like this, how could they not lure out the Sound Wave Zombie? Impossible.

Although mutated zombies had evolved a great deal, their brains were still leagues behind the scheming and plotting of normal humans.

The Sound Wave Zombie leaped down from the second-floor railing.

At the same time, a dozen or so more mutated zombies, either speed or power types, swarmed forward.

Xie Ning glanced over; they were all Second Order or higher.

Her gaze locked onto the Third Rank Sound Wave Zombie, and a murderous aura flared around her.

’No wonder it felt somewhat familiar in her Spiritual Prediction.’

’It was that old friend she had foreseen on the top floor of the West City Daily.’

’The Sound Wave Zombie in a suit and a small ponytail.’

’But wasn’t it far away on the rooftop of the West City Daily building?’

’As expected, its appearance here was definitely no coincidence.’

Meanwhile, the Third Rank Sound Wave Zombie roared and led the horde of zombies to charge at Zuo Li, who looked more heavily injured.

A cold glint flashed in Xie Ning’s narrowed eyes.

”Zuo Li, can you handle it?”

”Just go!” Zuo Li scrambled and dove behind a pile of abandoned tires, then used her hands and feet to get up and sprinted frantically out of the abandoned repair shop.

This scene clearly stunned the Sound Wave Zombie.

It hadn’t expected the little bug injured by its sound wave to get up so quickly.

The zombie roared in anger and led a group of roughly Second Order mutated zombies in hot pursuit, charging out of the factory.

At the same time, a pair of Gold Element Wings appeared on Xie Ning’s back, pulling her straight up to the second floor.

She kicked open the door to a small office, and sharp Metal Spikes shot out at high speed.

They shot straight for the back of a figure on the other side.

The attack missed.

Expressionless, Xie Ning continued to strike.

Her Gold Element Wings carried her swiftly into the air, and a single dive brought her to the back door.

Countless Golden Needles materialized in her palm and shot out the door with a SWOOSH, fast as light, all of them chasing the fleeing figure ahead.

The sound of them CHH-CHHing through the air sliced across the faintly lit sky.

Several zombies with ruined faces suddenly rushed out from a corner of the metal-frame staircase on the side, blocking the barrage of Golden Needles.

”You think you can get away?” Xie Ning sneered as her Gold Element Wings accelerated sharply, and she slid rapidly behind the small, thin person.

”Ah!”

The scream was short, but from the voice, Xie Ning could tell the one running was a woman.

’She sounded quite young, too.’

”Hmph.” With a wave of Xie Ning’s hand, rows of sharp Metal Spikes appeared at the entrance to the iron staircase. The spikes snaked outward, quickly forcing the small woman to a halt.

She looked down at the metal-frame staircase, still over a meter from the ground, gritted her teeth, and leaped onto the handrail.

Just as she leaped to jump down, the metal staircase suddenly twisted before her. The entire iron handrail seemed to come alive, tightly wrapping around her arms and trapping her.

”Ah.” The woman let out a scream of terrified shock, then shook her head and roared in fury.

At the same time, three to five burly Power Type zombies burst out of a nearby machine room. Their grayish-white eyes were locked on Xie Ning as they lunged at her one after another, heedless of their own safety.

Xie Ning was prepared. She pulled a K30 Superpower Gun from her bag and fired several shots at the heads of the lunging Power Type zombies.

The bullets roared from the muzzle, bursting like flowers on the heads of the Power Type zombies one after another.

’What a beautiful sight it was!’

With her arms firmly bound to the metal-frame staircase, a trace of fear and disbelief appeared in the woman’s eyes. ”How is this possible? What kind of gun is that?!”

’These were Third Rank Power Type mutated zombies!’

’Taken down with a single headshot?’

Xie Ning turned to look at her, a faint glint appearing in her cold, narrowed eyes.

Without another word, she stepped forward and, with an Iron Fist clad in metal, smashed several heavy blows into the woman’s left cheekbone.

The woman could even hear the crisp sound of her own left cheekbone cracking.

”AH!”

”Hello there, Corpse Dominator.” Zhou Qing!

A faint emotion flickered in Xie Ning’s gaze.

In her past life, this woman had made the entire Sweet Potato Team suffer immensely.

This weirdo could control rotting corpses, and her temperament was erratic, shifting between joy and anger.

Because of her unique superpower, Zuo Li had always been quite wary of her.

And back then, the person she couldn’t stand the most was Xie Ning.

In Zhou Qing’s eyes, Xie Ning was just a useless weakling, too fragile to withstand a gust of wind, yet she was always protected by the entire team. This made Zhou Qing furious.

Although Zhou Qing never said anything, during one mission, she deliberately had a horde of rotting corpses surround and attack her.

It was Zuo Li, along with the veteran old master, who fought their way through the siege blow by blow and pulled her from the sea of corpses.

That time, the entire team was nearly wiped out.

Afterward, the Corpse Dominator, Zhou Qing, knowing things had gone south, took advantage of the chaos and fled.

Zuo Li led a search party for half a month but found nothing.
