Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

Zuo Li slammed the person against the wall, her eyes wide with fury. ”What the hell are you doing?”

”Just punishing a piece of scum who hurt Miss Huang. Why is Captain Zuo so angry?”

Xie Ning recognized her at this point.

This short-haired woman was the one from Oasis Base who had been repeatedly humiliated and had secretly given Beichen water.

’Her name is... Hong Peiling, I think?’

”She injured Miss Huang’s hand. Miss Huang is merciful and doesn’t want her life, just a few bloody gashes on her arm. What’s the rush, Captain Zuo?”

”If you want to get yourselves killed, don’t drag everyone else down with you!” Zuo Li threw an angry punch. ”Hurry up and bandage her wounds! Clean up the blood!”

”Are you trying to attract all the zombie rats and zombie cockroaches? If you are, then by all means, continue!”

The blood of the living was probably the most delicious feast for zombie animals.

The expressions of the two men on night watch changed slightly. ”Are you serious?”

”Is this your fucking first day in the apocalypse?!” Zuo Li pointed at the blood on the floor. ”The blood will seep through the floorboards! All those goddamn bugs sleeping in the cracks are going to be woken up by you!”

The two night watchmen stiffened and quickly went to pull up Hong Peiling, who was slumped on the ground. They grabbed a random cloth to bandage her.

Xie Ning glanced at the elevator and frowned slightly. ”Captain, let’s go up and inform them.”

Zuo Li’s expression changed. ”Travel at night?”

”It’s safer than staying here.” As they spoke and walked toward the stairwell, a door to a small private room they were passing suddenly opened.

Xie Ning looked at the tall, slender teenager standing in the doorway.

A gloomy aura washed over her.

The young man just stood there, his right eye, visible past his bangs, staring unblinkingly at them. His expression was indescribably morose.

Xie Ning paused. ”Hong Peiling never did anything to wrong you, did she?”

In fact, you could even say she saved his life.

’To be so cold to his own savior... he really is a person of terrible character.’

”Take me with you, and I’ll tell you why.” The teenager’s thin lips parted, whispering the words almost inaudibly.

Zuo Li looked back in surprise, giving him a glance.

’This Healing Ability User actually spoke up, wanting to run off with Ningning?’

’Then again, staying with Huang Shi Yao’s father’s Special Combat Team Three is pretty pointless. Following Ningning, on the other hand, promises a bright future.’

Xie Ning gave him a cold glance. ”Sorry, but you’re useless to me!”

Zuo Li’s mouth twitched. She wanted to advise her sister not to act on impulse.

Medical resources were scarce in the post-apocalyptic world. This was a rare and valuable Healing Ability User!

But before she could, her arm was pulled tight, and she found herself involuntarily following Xie Ning upstairs.

The teenager slowly raised his head, his gloomy face calm and devoid of any emotional fluctuation.

But his tightly clenched fists betrayed a hint of an indescribable feeling.

As soon as Xie Ning and Zuo Li returned upstairs, they immediately woke up all their team members.

Although Song Kexin, Song Shijun, and the others were groggy and confused, they still grabbed their backpacks, jumped out of bed, and gathered outside at Xie Ning’s urging.

Earlier, Ji Taixian and Chen Xiao had already searched every room, stashing all the toiletries, bath herbs, and other usable items into their Spaces.

Now, the two of them weren’t even sparing the bedsheets and quilts.

Everyone worked together to quickly gather the supplies, finishing with all the bedding in under three minutes and assembling at the end of the hallway.

At the same time, a series of SQUEAKS echoed from the elevator shaft. The closed third-floor elevator doors let out a few CREAKS, as if something was biting and ramming them, and they began to deform.

Seeing this, the two night watchmen nearly pissed themselves in fear. They rushed to knock on each door, shouting for Huang Shi Yao and the others to get up.

The knocking on the third floor alerted those resting on the second and first floors.

A woman from the Jian Country Team, wrapped in a large white bathrobe with a shower cap on her head, ran to the stairwell just in time to see Xie Ning and Zuo Li leading their teammates clattering down the stairs.

”Oh my, Captain Zuo, why are you all coming down? Are you planning to travel through the night?” The woman asked curiously, holding onto her white shower cap.

Zuo Li gave the woman’s getup a speechless look. ’Of all times... how can she still be in the mood for a bath?’

”Get out of here, it’s not safe,” Zuo Li said before hurrying out after Xie Ning and the others.

The woman was startled by her urgent manner and quickly turned to pound on a door, yelling, ”Jianguo! Jianguo, Sicong, get up! We’re leaving, we’re leaving!”

THUD THUD THUD THUD! Something inside the elevator fiercely rammed the third-floor doors, leaving a series of dents.

Huang Shi Yao frantically threw on a gorgeous dress. She had wanted to fix her wavy hair, but there was no time. Zhong swept her up into his arms and charged out the door.

”Retreat, retreat, retreat!” Zhong, his eyes bloodshot, turned and roared at the crowd. ”Zhu Zihao, Beichen, get to the front! Don’t fall behind! Sang B, you take the rear!”

”Everyone gather downstairs! Get in the vehicles! Now!”

CRACK.

The third-floor elevator doors suddenly emitted a heart-stopping cracking sound.

Roars echoed up from the elevator shaft.

BANG! After the loud noise,

Meng Lanfang heard a chorus of terrified screams from behind her.

When she turned to look, her legs started trembling with fear.

A countless swarm of thick, black rats poured madly out of the elevator, interspersed with a horde of cockroaches the size of a baby’s fist.

They surged toward the crowd like a tide.

The last two Power-type Superpower Users threw a few punches with a series of THWACKS, but it was useless. They were quickly engulfed by the dark, swarming mass.

Meng Lanfang watched as the creatures crawled up the two men’s pant legs. Soon, a teeth-grinding, screeching, tearing sound arose, accompanied by the men’s crazed jumps and roars as rats and cockroaches flew everywhere.

”AHHHH!” Meng Lanfang gritted her teeth, knowing she had to keep running with Yaoyao. If she fell, this would be the end for her.

CRACK! A hole half the height of a person broke open in the elevator doors. Several rotten, clawed hands reached out from within, grabbing desperately at the fleeing humans.

”AHHHH!” The crowd descended further into chaos.

Zhong, his eyes bloodshot, cursed loudly, ”Fire Ability Users, light it up!!”

”Dammit, stop panicking! Don’t push!” Zhong roared. ”Zhu Zihao, get a few barrels of gasoline out, now!”

Zhu Zihao, the man he had called out, was about five-foot-five, a bit chubby, with a black mole on his chin.

”Hurry!” Zhong urged again, his voice furious.

Only then did Zhu Zihao reluctantly pull a few barrels of gasoline from his Space and hand them to the person behind him.

Soon, a wall of fire erupted, instantly blazing fiercely in the hallway.

The roars of zombies echoed up from the elevator shaft.

The third-floor elevator doors suddenly collapsed. Several zombies clambered up, trampling over the swarm of rats and cockroaches. Amidst the dark, writhing mass, they dropped to all fours and roared as they scrambled in hot pursuit.

These four-legged zombies crawled at an incredible speed and seemed to have no fear of fire.

Even after passing through the wall of flames, covered in fire, they continued to rush toward the crowd.
