Gender-swapped Beautiful Girl, the Godly Rich System Takes Me to New Heights!

241: National Games? The Glasses Man adjusted his glasses, wishing he could vanish on the spot from sheer awkwardness.

”What? Cat got your tongue?” Lin Xiaoya pressed relentlessly. ”Weren’t you talking quite animatedly just now? Weren’t you laughing at me for dreaming? Now that Sister Lei has the championship medal in her hand, isn’t it time for you to fulfill your promise?”

Some boys in the crowd began to jeer.

”Yeah! You should keep your word!”

The jeering made those girls feel even more mortified.

They had only spoken carelessly back then, never imagining that Lei Jun could actually win the championship, let alone defeat a professional player like Zhao Xue to do it!

They were overwhelmed by immense humiliation and regret.

If they had known Lei Jun was this formidable, why would they have provoked Lin Xiaoya and made such a sure-to-lose bet? Now they had truly lifted a stone only to drop it on their own feet.

”I... we...” the Short-haired Girl stammered, unable to speak coherently.

In the end, they could only flee in a panic.

Seeing them in such a wretched state, the pent-up resentment in Lin Xiaoya’s heart was finally completely vented.

She snorted, didn’t press the attack further, and turned to proudly return to Lei Jun’s side, like a victorious little rooster.

Lei Jun had watched the whole scene with a detached expression, neither stopping Lin Xiaoya nor saying anything.

She didn’t care about these meaningless arguments and bets.

However, seeing Lin Xiaoya’s puffed-up, angry face when defending her and her current smug little expression, Lei Jun found it somewhat endearing.

As for the girls’ humiliation, she wouldn’t dwell on it either. Everyone must be responsible for their own words and actions.

At that moment, Coach Chen from the Modu City Team, accompanied by the school Principal, quickly walked over.

The surrounding crowd automatically parted to make way.

”Student Lei Jun, congratulations on winning the championship!” the Principal said with a beaming smile. ”That was a brilliant match!”

”Thank you, Principal,” Lei Jun replied with a polite nod.

Coach Chen eagerly stepped forward, his gaze fervent as he looked at Lei Jun: ”Student Lei Jun, hello! I am the coach of the Modu City table tennis team, my surname is Chen. I just watched your match—it was outstanding! Your defense, anticipation, and control of the rhythm all demonstrate immense talent and potential!”

”Would you be interested in receiving more professional table tennis training? Our city team is preparing for the National Games and is in great need of promising young players like you! If you’re willing, I can specially recruit you into the city team, providing the best training conditions and guidance!”

”Wow—!”

Coach Chen’s undisguised admiration and this heavyweight invitation caused a huge stir among the surrounding students!

A city team coach personally inviting her!

And a special recruitment at that!

This meant bypassing almost all selection procedures, directly obtaining the status and training resources of a professional athlete!

In the eyes of many, this was like a pie falling from the sky, a golden opportunity to skyrocket to success!

”My god! A special recruitment into the city team? Is Lei Jun about to become a professional athlete?”

”Coach Chen has trained national team players before! Is he really that optimistic about Lei Jun?”

”Lei Jun is so lucky! Getting spotted by a coach after just one school competition?”

”What luck? That’s genuine skill! Didn’t you see her beat Zhao Xue?”

”But... being a professional athlete is tough, right? Lei Jun’s family seems well-off. Would she even go?”

The students chattered amongst themselves, their gazes—full of envy, surprise, and curiosity—all focused on Lei Jun.

Lin Xiaoya also covered her mouth in delighted surprise, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Lei Jun, sharing in her glory.

However, Lei Jun’s reaction remained calm.

She looked at the excited and expectant Coach Chen before her, her gaze clear, showing not the slightest trace of being flattered or indecisive because of this sudden recognition.

She gently shook her head.

”Thank you for your recognition and invitation, Coach Chen. However, for me, table tennis is currently just a hobby, a part of my university life. I don’t have any plans or intentions to become a professional athlete. My focus remains on completing my studies.”

She refused?

Just like that, so decisively?

The surroundings instantly fell silent. Almost everyone who heard these words wore an expression of disbelief.

Including the experienced Principal and the talent-hungry Coach Chen.

Such a fantastic opportunity, something countless people would fight tooth and nail for, and she refused without even thinking about it?

And using reasons like ”hobby” and ”focus on studies”?

The excitement on Coach Chen’s face instantly froze, turning into bewilderment and anxiety.

”Student Lei Jun! Please think it over carefully! This isn’t just about playing table tennis; it’s a career, a dream! Your talent shouldn’t be wasted! Studies and training can be coordinated. We also have university student-athletes on our team!”

”With your potential, you could absolutely manage both! Bringing glory to the country is such an honorable thing!”

The Principal was also somewhat surprised; he had thought Lei Jun would at least consider it.

He cleared his throat and joined the persuasion effort.

”Student Lei Jun, Coach Chen is a seasoned professional; his judgment is sound. Joining the city team and receiving top-level training is an excellent opportunity for your personal development.”

”Our school has always supported students’ diverse development. If you became an athlete, we could arrange a flexible academic schedule and provide support. Why not give it some more thought?”

Facing the combined persuasion of the Principal and Coach Chen, Lei Jun’s expression still showed no ripple of change.

She was very clear in her heart about her own choices and direction.

Becoming a professional table tennis player

was certainly possible. With her [God-level Table Tennis Skill], she could even win many championships.

But that would mean devoting a huge amount of time and energy to the monotonous daily training, competing all over, and dealing with the various pressures of competitive sports.

This was not the lifestyle she desired.

The System had endowed her with various extraordinary abilities to give her a broader perspective, richer experiences, more freedom of choice, and to experience different facets of life—not to bind her to one specific, restrictive career path.

She enjoyed learning new knowledge on campus, cherished the relaxed time with friends, and also enjoyed the feeling of showcasing her abilities when needed.

This was the balance she wanted.

As for bringing glory to the country, she certainly had patriotic feelings, but there were more ways to contribute than just becoming a professional athlete.

In her view, using her other mastered abilities might allow her to play a greater role in other fields.

However, looking at Coach Chen’s extremely anxious expression, as if he were witnessing a priceless uncut jade about to be tarnished, and the Principal’s earnest, persuasive demeanor, Lei Jun’s heart wavered slightly.

The National Games?

Participating in the National Games would also be a brand new life experience.

And, if she were to participate just as an ”amateur enthusiast” or a ”special invitee,” without formally becoming a bound professional athlete long-term... perhaps... it wasn’t completely unacceptable?
