Chapter 1069:- Trapped Out of City

Harrington used wind magic to move the curtains. Outside, it should have been the starry night sky view and the view of the rest of Axel city. But the whole sky was lit up with countless fireworks.

”Who is doing this?” Wahid frowned. He was slightly worried. But he didn’t think too much about it.

From his question, it became clear that not even the Duke knew that there was any fireworks event in the city. And such a large city-scale firework event cannot be done without taking permission from the City Lord. This means this whole thing was unauthorised. Seeing this, Aditya suddenly had a really bad feeling in his heart.

Aditya suddenly looked at the Goddess of Wisdom. Just like him, she also had a bad feeling in her heart about this whole thing. In fact, she was even more tense than Aditya.

She was already on her feet and looking outside with a very serious expression.

”What happened?” Rin curiously looked at Athena.

”I have a strong feeling that we are under attack.”

Athena did not explain further.

Everyone looked outside the window and observed everything very carefully.

There was fireworks whole over the night sky of Axel City.

”Uncle send someone to investigate who is behind this.” Aditya turned to Wahid and said.

But before Wahid could give any orders to anyone, four light blue pillars of light shot into the sky.

”What is that?” Aditya pointed the light pillars.

But no one had any idea.

The next second, Aditya felt some ripples at the fabric of space around the entire Axel City.

As a 5th runemaster, it took him less than two seconds to understand what was going on.

”Those four pillars of light have basically sealed the space around the entire Axel City.” He turned to everyone to the rest and continued.

”This means whoever is trying to attack us wants to seal off the space around the entire Axel City.”

”This means no teleportation beyond the city will work. I have a strong feeling that even physically leaving the city through any of the gates is also not possible.”

”No one can teleport to Axel city from outside either. We are completely cut off from the rest of the world right now.”

Hearing this, everyone in the room became worried. The atmosphere instantly turned heavy.

Boris and Harrington looked at each other, both clearly surprised by the situation. Neither of them had expected their enemies to make a move while knowing that multiple powerful 7th-order cultivators were currently present inside the city.

Not only that, Axel City also possessed one of the strongest military forces within the entire Empire. The Harrington troops were far more battle-hardened than ordinary soldiers because they constantly fought magic animals throughout the year. Continuous battles against magic animals had kept their senses sharp and their combat experience high. Because of this, directly attacking Axel City was almost no different from committing suicide.

Of course, sealing the surrounding space to prevent teleportation in and out of the city was definitely a smart move from the enemy side. It limited outside interference and made escape more difficult. But even with such preparations, Boris and Harrington still found it difficult to believe that their enemies actually had confidence in winning this battle.

This was also the reason why, despite everyone else becoming anxious and tense, Boris and Harrington themselves remained unusually calm.

Scene change....

Vardy, along with most of his strongest men, had already moved outside the city walls in anticipation of a large wave of magic animals charging toward Axel City. He had mobilized almost the full strength of the military because he wanted to stop the battle far away from the city itself and make sure that the civilians inside remained completely safe.

To ordinary people, a horde of over five thousand magic animals would have sounded terrifying. But to Vardy and his experienced soldiers, this was simply another difficult day they had to deal with. Over the centuries, they had fought against countless waves of magic animals, and because of that, the troops of Axel City were far more disciplined and battle-hardened than most military forces within the Empire.

Vardy himself looked unusually calm despite the situation. He had complete confidence in both his abilities and the strength of the Harrington troops. In fact, his goal was not merely to defeat the incoming wave of magic animals. He wanted to finish the entire battle so cleanly and efficiently that most people within the city would never even realize such a dangerous attack had taken place outside their walls.

He expected to see a battlefield, but all he saw was gentle quiet forest. Vardy was the last one to arrive.

”Where are the magic animals?” He asked his men.

”Sir, when we came here, we could not find any magic animals.”

This made him if the magic animals had left before their forces could arrive here.

Although he found this really strange as something like this has never happened in the last 2000 years of him serving in this position, but he still decided to take action and head back and think about this matter later.

’Tomorrow morning I will ask my men to investigate.’ But for now, since it was night time, it was not safe for his man to remain outside and everyone needed rest.

”Retreat back!” He and his men turned around to leave.

He was the first one to try, entered the city through flying.

Bang!!!!!

He hit an invisible barrier.

He tried again only to hit the barrier twice.

”What the hell is this?” This has never happened before.

From outside the city, he could see the night sky glowing brightly with hundreds of different shades of fireworks. Colorful explosions continuously lit up the darkness above Axel City, making the entire place look unusually lively despite the tense situation unfolding outside its walls.

Even from beyond the barrier surrounding the city, the loud sounds of fireworks could still be heard clearly echoing through the night.

At the same time, he also noticed four distinct blue pillars of light rising high into the sky from four corners parts of the city and these pillars of light formed a rectangle shape. Those blue lights stood out sharply among the colorful fireworks, instantly drawing attention the moment one looked toward Axel City.

”Fireworks?” Vardy was now confused.

At first, he could not understand why fireworks were suddenly being launched across the entire city at a time like this. But then, something inside his mind suddenly clicked. One by one, the scattered pieces of information began connecting together.

The sudden report about a massive horde of magic animals.

The fireworks lighting up the city.

The strange blue pillars of light rising into the sky.

The sealed space surrounding Axel City.

The more he thought about it, the clearer everything became.

Vardy’s expression immediately darkened.

Without wasting another second, he turned toward his men and ordered them to bring the soldier who had first reported the attack of the magic animals.

But even after several minutes passed, no one could find the person anywhere.

”Sir, we can’t find him.”

Hearing this, Vardy instantly understood what had happened.

The report about the magic animals had been completely false from the very beginning. Someone had intentionally fed him fake information so that he would mobilize the majority of his troops and leave the city. The real goal was never the magical animals. The real goal was to lure him and the military force outside and keep them stranded beyond the city walls.

At the same time, he also realized that whoever planned this was undoubtedly responsible for the fireworks and the four strange blue pillars of light that had appeared in different corners of the city.

”Dammitttttt!” Vardy let out an angry roar. He was so angry that if he could find the bastard who mislead them outside of the city he would tear that man apart.

”Son of a Bitch.!!!!!”

But Vardy was not the type of person to stand still and waste time while the situation continued to worsen.

The moment he understood that this entire incident was a trap, his mind immediately began searching for alternatives and backup plans. Fortunately, he quickly remembered something important.

There was another teleportation array located in a small village roughly three kilometers away from Axel City. That teleportation array had originally been built for emergencies so that the villagers could instantly escape into the city whenever magic animals attacked the surrounding areas.

Most importantly, that teleportation array should still possess enough mana stones to support long-distance teleportation.

The moment this thought appeared in his mind, Vardy immediately made his decision. He planned to travel to the territories of the other Dukes belonging to the Harrington Faction and gather all of them together. Only by bringing the Dukes and Duchesses together could they quickly discuss a proper solution and figure out a way to break the barrier surrounding Axel City.
